    Explanations

    Greetings by time of day

Slovenian has greetings that match the time of day. Use "Dobro jutro" in the morning, "Dober dan" during the day, and "Dober večer" in the evening. Each one is a fixed phrase, so learn it as a whole rather than word by word.

    Casual hello and general goodbye

"Živjo" is a casual hello used with friends and people you know well. "Nasvidenje" is a general goodbye that works in most situations. You can use "Nasvidenje" when leaving a friend's house or a shop.

    Asking how someone is

After a greeting, you can ask "Kako si?", which means 'How are you?'. A common reply is "Dobro, hvala.", meaning 'Good, thank you.'. Notice that "Dobro" also appears in "Dobro jutro", but here it stands alone as a reply.
