    Explanations

Saying who you are and stating your name

Use 'Ik ben ...' to say who you are, for example 'Ik ben Ana.' Use 'Ik heet ...' to say what you are called, for example 'Ik heet Ana.' You can also say 'Mijn naam is Ana.' All three are natural ways to introduce yourself in Dutch.

    Asking someone's name

To ask someone's name, say 'Hoe heet jij?' This is a direct, friendly question. The question word 'Hoe' comes first, then the verb 'heet', then the subject 'jij'.

    Responding politely

When you meet someone, you can say 'Aangenaam.' It means 'nice to meet you' and works as a short polite response. In the dialogue, Ana says 'Aangenaam, Tom.' and Tom replies 'Aangenaam.'
