Korean for Reporting a Wrong Floor Delivery: Say 'My Parcel Went to the Wrong Floor'

Learn to say your parcel was left on the wrong floor in Korean, ask a neighbor if they saw it, and explain the mix-up politely.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.

You ordered something, the tracking says delivered, but your parcel is not at your door. In a Korean apartment building, it may have been left on the floor below or above. This lesson teaches you to state the problem clearly and politely: '택배가 3층에 놓였어요. You will also learn to ask a neighbor, '혹시 제 택배 보셨어요?' and to describe that it was placed incorrectly with '잘못 놓다.' The focus is on polite informal Korean for neighbors and building staff, not on delivery company policies. By the end, you can explain the floor mix-up, ask for help, and respond when someone says they saw your package.

    By the end, you can…

    • say which floor my parcel was left on and which floor I live on.
    • ask a neighbor politely whether they have seen my parcel.
    • explain that a parcel was placed on the wrong floor using 잘못 놓다.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

The parcel was left on the 3rd floor. I live on the 5th floor.

    taek-bae-ga sam-cheung-e no-yeo-sseo-yo. jeo-neun o-cheung-i-e-yo.

Use this to state the problem and your correct floor in one go. Replace the numbers as needed.

Did you happen to see my parcel?

    hok-si je taek-bae bo-syeo-sseo-yo?

A polite informal question to a neighbor. 혹시 softens the question, like 'by any chance.'

    The parcel was placed incorrectly.

    taek-bae-ga jal-mot no-yeo-sseo-yo.

Use this when you do not know the exact wrong floor, or as a general statement of the problem.

Could my parcel be next door?

    yeop-jip-e je taek-bae-ga i-sseul-kka-yo?

옆집 means the house next door. Use this when you suspect the parcel is with the immediate neighbor.

Sorry, but if my parcel is on the 3rd floor, could you let me know?

    joe-song-ha-ji-man, hok-si sam-cheung-e je taek-bae-ga i-sseu-myeon al-lyeo ju-sil su i-sseo-yo?

A polite request to a neighbor or staff member. 죄송하지만 softens the imposition.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

저는 [floor]층이에요.' lets you report the wrong floor and your correct floor. The verb 놓이다 means 'to be placed,' so the parcel is the subject. If you want to say someone placed it wrong, use '잘못 놓다': '택배를 3층에 잘못 놓았어요.' Here the actor is the subject and the parcel takes the object marker 를. Choose the passive form when you do not know who did it, and the active form when you want to point out the mistake.

    When to use it

Use these phrases when you are at home and your parcel is missing. Start with the passive report if you are not sure who made the mistake: '택배가 잘못 놓였어요.' Then ask a neighbor politely: '혹시 제 택배 보셨어요?' If you need to ask staff at the building office, use the more polite request: '죄송하지만, 혹시 3층에 제 택배가 있으면 알려 주실 수 있어요?' Avoid blaming; Koreans often soften with 혹시 and 죄송하지만. If the neighbor says they saw it, you can respond with '아, 그래요?

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

Did you happen to see my parcel? It was left on the 3rd floor. I live on the 5th floor.hok-si je taek-bae bo-syeo-sseo-yo? taek-bae-ga sam-cheung-e no-yeo-sseo-yo. jeo-neun o-cheung-i-e-yo.
    B

    Oh, really? Just a moment. There is a parcel at the neighbor's place on the 3rd floor.a, geu-rae-yo? jam-si-man-yo. sam-cheung yeop-jip-e taek-bae-ga ha-na i-sseo-yo.
    A

Really? Sorry, but is that parcel mine by any chance?jeong-mal-yo? joe-song-ha-ji-man, hok-si geu taek-bae-ga je geo-ye-yo?
    B

    Yes, the name is the same. Shall I bring it to you?ne, i-reu-mi ga-ta-yo. je-ga ga-jyeo-da deu-ril-kka-yo?

A little context goes a long way

In Korean apartment buildings, floors are labeled with 층, and some buildings also use 라인 for a specific line or section. When speaking to neighbors, polite informal speech with 요 is appropriate. Using 혹시 and 죄송하지만 makes requests sound less direct. It is common to ask a neighbor before contacting the delivery company, but do not assume the neighbor has your parcel; ask politely and thank them regardless.

    One thing to watch for

Saying '나 5층이에요' to a neighbor you do not know well.

Try this instead: Use the polite informal '저는 5층이에요' with 요. For example, '저는 5층이에요.' The pronoun 저 is more polite than 나, and the 요 ending keeps the tone friendly but respectful.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you say 'The parcel was left on the 3rd floor. I live on the 5th floor.'?

    Show a sample answer

This uses the passive verb 놓이다 for 'was placed' and states your floor with 이에요. You can replace the numbers with your own floors.

2Ask a neighbor politely if they have seen your parcel.

    Show a sample answer

혹시 makes the question softer, and 보셨어요 is the polite past tense of 보다. This is appropriate for a neighbor you know casually.

3How do you say 'The parcel was placed incorrectly' using 잘못 놓다?

    Show a sample answer

This uses the passive form 놓이다 with 잘못. If you want to say someone placed it wrong, you can say '택배를 잘못 놓았어요.' Both are acceptable depending on whether you know who did it.

    Take this with you

When your parcel goes to the wrong floor, state the floor it was left on and your own floor, then ask politely with 혹시. Use passive 놓였어요 when you do not know who made the mistake, and active 잘못 놓았어요 when you do.
