Korean for Cafés: Asking Whether You Can Add an Extra Syrup Pump
Learn polite Korean to ask if a café can add syrup or one more pump, using 시럽, 추가, and 한 번 더 without assuming the drink can be customized.

In many cafés, the drink you want is on the menu, but the sweetness you want is not. Maybe the syrup bottle is behind the counter, or the drink simply comes the way it comes. This lesson gives you polite Korean for asking whether an extra syrup pump is possible before you order it. You will learn 시럽 (syrup), 추가 (addition), 한 번 더 (one more time), and the useful question 시럽 추가할 수 있어요? You will also learn to ask what is available first, so you are not treating a customization as a guaranteed service. The focus is speaking clearly and politely to staff, not memorizing a menu.
By the end, you can…
- ask politely whether syrup can be added to a drink.
- ask for one more pump of syrup if the café offers it.
- check what syrups are available before ordering.
- respond politely when staff say yes or no.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

시럽 추가할 수 있어요?
Can syrup be added?
si-reop chu-ga-hal su i-sseo-yo?
A general polite question. Use it before ordering if you are not sure the café allows syrup additions.
시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요.
Please add one more pump of syrup.
si-reop han beon deo neo-eo ju-se-yo.
Use this when the café has already agreed to add syrup or when you know syrup is available. 한 번 더 means one more time; in this context it means one more pump.
무슨 시럽 있어요?
What syrups do you have?
mu-seun si-reop i-sseo-yo?
Ask this first if you do not see a syrup list. It checks availability without assuming a specific syrup exists.
바닐라 시럽으로 해 주세요.
Please make it with vanilla syrup.
ba-nil-la si-reo-beu-ro hae ju-se-yo.
Use this after staff confirm that vanilla syrup is available. Replace 바닐라 with another syrup name if needed. Note that 시럽으로 해 주세요 means "please make it with syrup," not "please add syrup."
추가 요금 있어요?
Is there an extra charge?
chu-ga yo-geum i-sseo-yo?
A polite way to ask about possible extra cost. It does not assume a price; it simply asks.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.
Make it make sense
Useful pattern
The pattern 시럽 추가할 수 있어요? means Can syrup be added? It combines 시럽 (syrup), 추가 (addition), and the polite ability question -할 수 있어요? You can swap 시럽 for another item: 샷 추가할 수 있어요? (Can you add a shot?) or 우유 추가할 수 있어요? (Can you add milk?). If you want one more pump, say 시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요. Here 한 번 더 means one more time, and 넣어 주세요 means please put it in. This is more specific than the general question and works well once the café has agreed to add syrup. Note that 추가할 수 있어요? asks whether the addition is possible; it does not mean "Can I have syrup?" as a direct request.
When to use it
Start with 무슨 시럽 있어요? if you do not know what is available. Then ask 시럽 추가할 수 있어요? to check whether adding syrup is possible. If the answer is yes, you can say 시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요 or name the syrup: 바닐라 시럽으로 해 주세요. If staff say 추가는 안 돼요 (adding is not possible), accept it politely with 알겠습니다 (I understand). Do not assume every café offers the same syrups or allows additions; asking first keeps the interaction smooth and respectful. Note that 무슨 시럽 있어요? is a casual-polite question; in a very formal setting you might hear 어떤 시럽이 있으세요? instead.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
안녕하세요. 무슨 시럽 있어요?
Hello. What syrups do you have?an-nyeong-ha-se-yo. mu-seun si-reop i-sseo-yo?바닐라 시럽이랑 헤이즐넛 시럽 있어요.
We have vanilla syrup and hazelnut syrup.ba-nil-la si-reo-bi-rang he-i-jeul-reot si-reop i-sseo-yo.그럼 바닐라 시럽 추가할 수 있어요?
Then can you add vanilla syrup?geu-reom ba-nil-la si-reop chu-ga-hal su i-sseo-yo?네, 추가할 수 있어요. 한 번 더 넣어 드릴까요?
Yes, we can add it. Shall I put in one more pump for you?ne, chu-ga-hal su i-sseo-yo. han beon deo neo-eo deu-ril-kka-yo?A little context goes a long way
In Korean cafés, staff usually speak in polite 해요체, and customers are expected to match that tone. Asking 시럽 추가할 수 있어요? is polite because it asks about possibility rather than demanding. If the café cannot customize a drink, a simple 알겠습니다 or 네, 괜찮아요 keeps the exchange friendly. Tipping is not standard in most Korean cafés, so do not offer a tip as a way to request syrup. Note that some cafés, especially chains, may have fixed recipes and cannot adjust syrup; asking first respects that.
One thing to watch for
Saying 시럽 주세요 as a direct demand for syrup without checking whether the café offers it.
Try this instead: Ask about availability or possibility first: 무슨 시럽 있어요? or 시럽 추가할 수 있어요? If the café confirms it, then say 시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요. This is more polite and avoids assuming a customization that may not be offered. Note that 시럽 주세요 is not wrong in itself, but it sounds like a direct order and can be awkward if the café does not offer syrup additions.
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.
1You want to know if the café can add syrup to your latte. What do you ask?
Show a sample answer
시럽 추가할 수 있어요?
This asks whether adding syrup is possible. It is polite and does not assume the café offers the service. You could also ask 무슨 시럽 있어요? first if you want to know the options.
2The staff says vanilla syrup is available. How do you ask for one more pump?
Show a sample answer
바닐라 시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요.
This names the syrup and asks for one more pump. 한 번 더 means one more time, and 넣어 주세요 means please put it in. You can also say 시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요 if the syrup type is already clear. Note that 넣어 주세요 is a polite request form; the more formal 넣어 주시겠어요? is also possible.
3You are not sure whether there is an extra charge for syrup. How do you ask politely?
Show a sample answer
추가 요금 있어요?
This asks whether there is an extra charge. It does not assume a price or a policy. Staff may answer 네, 있어요 or 아니요, 없어요.
Ask what is available first, then ask whether syrup can be added. Use 시럽 추가할 수 있어요? for the general question and 시럽 한 번 더 넣어 주세요 when you want one more pump. Remember that 추가할 수 있어요? asks about possibility, not a direct request.
