Korean for Club Members: Asking About the Next Meeting and What to Bring

Learn to ask when the next 모임 is and what to prepare using polite informal Korean. Practice 다음, 일정, and 준비 with natural patterns for 동호회 settings.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.
A quiet illustrated scene for evening language practice

You have just finished your first session at a Korean 동호회 (club or meetup). You want to ask when the next gathering is and what you should bring or prepare. In this lesson, you will learn two essential patterns: 다음 모임은 언제예요? (When is the next meeting?) and 뭘 준비해가야 해요? (What should I prepare/bring?). These are polite informal questions that work well with people you have just met in a club setting. You will also learn key vocabulary such as 다음 (next), 일정 (schedule), and 준비 (preparation). By the end, you will be able to wrap up a first session by confirming the next date and any items you need to bring.

    By the end, you can…

    • ask when the next club meeting is using 다음 모임은 언제예요?
    • ask what I need to prepare or bring using 뭘 준비해가야 해요?
    • understand and respond to schedule-related questions using 일정 and 준비.

    Words you’ll actually use

    다음 모임은 언제예요?

    When is the next meeting?

    da-eum mo-im-eun eon-je-ye-yo?

Polite informal question. Use with club members you have just met. 다음 means 'next', 모임 means 'meeting/gathering', 언제예요 means 'when is it?'.

    뭘 준비해가야 해요?

    What should I prepare/bring?

    mwol jun-bi-hae-ga-ya hae-yo?

Asks what you need to prepare and bring to the next session. 뭘 is a contraction of 무엇을 (what). 준비해가야 해요 implies bringing something after preparing it.

    다음 일정이 어떻게 돼요?

What is the schedule for next time?

    da-eum il-jeong-i eo-tteo-ke dwae-yo?

A slightly broader question about the next schedule. Useful when you want to know date, time, and place together. 일정 means 'schedule'.

    준비물이 따로 있어요?

Is there anything I need to bring separately?

    jun-bi-mul-i tta-ro i-sseo-yo?

준비물 means 'things to prepare/bring'. 따로 means 'separately' or 'in particular'. Use this to ask if there are specific items required.

    다음에 뵐 때 뭘 가져가면 돼요?

What should I bring when I see you next time?

    da-eum-e boel ttae mwol ga-jyeo-ga-myeon dwae-yo?

A polite way to ask about bringing items. 뵐 때 is a humble form of 'when I see you'. 가져가면 돼요 means 'is it okay if I bring...'.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The pattern '다음 모임은 언제예요?' uses the topic marker 은 after 모임. You can replace 모임 with other nouns: 다음 수업은 언제예요? (When is the next class?), 다음 회의는 언제예요? (When is the next meeting?). For a more casual tone among peers, you can drop 요: 다음 모임은 언제야? The pattern '뭘 준비해가야 해요?' uses the verb 준비하다 (to prepare) plus 해가다 (to go after doing). The ending -아/어야 해요 expresses obligation or necessity. So it literally means 'What must I prepare and bring?' You can also say '뭘 준비하면 돼요?' (What should I prepare?) which is slightly less specific about bringing.

    When to use it

Use these questions when you are wrapping up a first session and want to confirm the next meeting. They are polite informal, suitable for club members you have just met. If you are speaking to a club organizer or someone older, you can make it more polite by using '다음 모임은 언제인가요?' or '뭘 준비해가면 될까요?' For friends you already know well, you can use the casual forms '다음 모임 언제야?' and '뭘 준비해가야 해?' Avoid using these with strangers in a very formal setting; instead use '다음 모임은 언제입니까?' if you need extra formality.

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

A little context goes a long way

In Korean 동호회, the first session often ends with casual conversation about the next meeting. Asking about the schedule and preparation shows you are interested and responsible. Using polite informal speech (해요체) is appropriate because you are neither close friends nor in a highly formal relationship. However, if the club has a clear hierarchy or you are speaking to an older organizer, you may want to use more polite forms like -시- or -습니다. Also, it is common to bring small snacks or drinks to share, but always ask first to avoid duplication.

    One thing to watch for

Using '뭘 준비해요?' to ask what to bring to the next meeting.

Try this instead: While '뭘 준비해요?' means 'What do you prepare?', it does not imply bringing something to the meeting. To ask what to bring, use '뭘 준비해가야 해요?' or '뭘 가져가야 해요?' The verb 가다 (to go) combined with 준비하다 indicates preparing and bringing. For example, '다음 모임에 뭘 가져가야 해요?' is clear and natural.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How would you ask 'When is the next meeting?' in polite informal Korean?

    Show a sample answer

    다음 모임은 언제예요?

This uses 다음 (next), 모임 (meeting), 은 (topic marker), and 언제예요 (when is it). It is polite informal and appropriate for club members. You could also say 다음 모임 언제예요? without the topic marker, which is slightly more casual but still polite.

2What does '뭘 준비해가야 해요?' mean, and when would you use it?

    Show a sample answer

It means 'What should I prepare/bring?' Use it when you want to know what items to prepare and bring to the next meeting. It is polite informal and works well with club members.

뭘 is a contraction of 무엇을 (what), 준비해가야 해요 means 'must prepare and bring'. This question is specific about bringing something after preparing it. A valid alternative is '뭘 가져가야 해요?' which focuses more on bringing.

3How would you ask about the next schedule in a slightly broader way?

    Show a sample answer

    다음 일정이 어떻게 돼요?

This asks 'What is the schedule for next time?' using 일정 (schedule) and 어떻게 돼요 (how is it arranged). It is useful when you want to know date, time, and place together. Another option is '다음 일정 알려주세요' (Please let me know the next schedule), which is also polite.

    Take this with you

To wrap up your first club session, ask '다음 모임은 언제예요?' for the next date and '뭘 준비해가야 해요?' for what to bring. Use polite informal speech with club members, and adjust to more formal forms if needed.
