Korean for Offering Help with Cleanup at a Community Club

Learn polite Korean phrases to offer help putting chairs away and tidying up after a club meeting, using 의자, 정리, and 돕다 naturally.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.
A quiet illustrated scene for evening language practice

At the end of a Korean community club meeting, members often stack chairs, clear tables, and return the room to its usual state. Offering to help is a small but meaningful way to show you are part of the group. This lesson teaches you how to offer help with cleanup using polite informal Korean, the register you will hear among adult club members who know each other but are not close friends. You will learn the nouns 의자 (chair) and 정리 (tidying, putting in order), the verb 돕다 (to help), and two reusable patterns: 의자 정리 도와드릴까요? and 같이 치울게요. The focus is on real actions at the end of a session, not generic travel phrases.

    By the end, you can…

    • offer to help put chairs away using 의자 정리 도와드릴까요?
    • say I will clean up together using 같이 치울게요.
    • ask a staff member or organizer what needs to be done.
    • respond politely when someone accepts or declines my offer.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    의자 정리 도와드릴까요?

Would you like help putting the chairs away?

    ui-ja jeong-ni do-wa-deu-ril-kka-yo?

Polite informal offer to a staff member, organizer, or fellow member you do not know well. Use 드릴까요 when the other person benefits from your help.

    같이 치울게요.

I will clean up together with you.

    ga-chi chi-ul-ge-yo.

Friendly, cooperative statement. Use it when you are already joining the cleanup and want to sound willing, not formal.

    뭐 도와드리면 될까요?

    What should I help with?

    mwo do-wa-deu-ri-myeon doel-kka-yo?

Open question to a staff member or organizer when you are not sure what needs doing. It invites a specific task.

    의자 여기다 쌓으면 돼요?

Should I stack the chairs here?

    ui-ja yeo-gi-da ssa-eu-myeon dwae-yo?

Confirming a concrete action. Use it when you see a stack or a storage spot and want to check before moving things.

    제가 할게요, 괜찮아요.

I will do it, it is fine.

    je-ga hal-ge-yo, gwaen-chan-a-yo.

A polite way to insist on helping or to reassure someone. Useful when another person offers to take the task from you.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The pattern 의자 정리 도와드릴까요? combines a noun, a noun, and a polite offer. 의자 means chair, 정리 means tidying or putting in order, and 도와드릴까요 is the polite informal question form of 돕다 when you are offering to help someone of equal or slightly higher social position. You can swap the first noun for other cleanup objects: 탁자 정리 도와드릴까요? (Would you like help tidying the tables?) or 컵 정리 도와드릴까요? (Would you like help with the cups?). Keep the object before 정리, and keep 도와드릴까요 at the end. If you are talking to a close friend, 도와줄까? is possible, but in a community club with mixed ages, 도와드릴까요 is safer and warmer.

    When to use it

Use these phrases at the end of a meeting, when people are standing up, stacking chairs, or carrying things to a storage corner. 의자 정리 도와드릴까요? is best when you approach someone who seems in charge, such as the organizer or a staff member. 같이 치울게요 is best when you are already part of the group and simply want to announce that you are joining in. If you are unsure what to do, ask 뭐 도와드리면 될까요? before grabbing objects. If you see a specific task, confirm it with 의자 여기다 쌓으면 돼요? This shows you are paying attention without assuming you know the room's rules.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

    수고하셨어요. 이제 의자 정리할까요?

Good work today. Shall we put the chairs away now?su-go-ha-syeot-eo-yo. i-je ui-ja jeong-ni-hal-kka-yo?
    B

    네, 의자 정리 도와드릴까요?

Yes, would you like help putting the chairs away?ne, ui-ja jeong-ni do-wa-deu-ril-kka-yo?
    A

아, 네. 저쪽에 쌓아 주시면 돼요.

Oh, yes. If you could stack them over there, that would be great.a, ne. jeo-jjok-e ssa-a ju-si-myeon dwae-yo.
    B

    알겠습니다. 같이 치울게요.

Got it. I will clean up together with you.al-get-seum-ni-da. ga-chi chi-ul-ge-yo.

A little context goes a long way

In Korean community clubs, cleanup is often shared without a formal schedule, and offering help is a way to show you are considerate. Polite informal speech with -요 endings is usually appropriate among adult members who are not close friends. Using 도와드릴까요 rather than 도와줄까 signals respect to an organizer or older member. If someone declines your offer, you can still join by saying 같이 치울게요, which is cooperative rather than pushy.

    One thing to watch for

Using 도와줄까요? with a staff member or older organizer because it looks like the same polite question.

Try this instead: 도와줄까요 is not wrong grammatically, but it can sound as if you are doing the other person a favor. For a staff member or someone older, use 도와드릴까요? Example: 의자 정리 도와드릴까요? This raises the other person and sounds appropriately polite in a community club.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1You want to offer help putting chairs away to the club organizer. What do you say?

    Show a sample answer

    의자 정리 도와드릴까요?

This uses the object 의자, the noun 정리, and the polite offer 도와드릴까요. It is appropriate for an organizer or staff member. 의자 정리할까요? is also possible if you are asking whether to start, but it does not offer help to the other person.

2You are already joining the cleanup and want to say you will do it together. What is a natural polite informal line?

    Show a sample answer

    같이 치울게요.

같이 means together, and 치울게요 means I will clean up. It sounds cooperative and friendly. 같이 치우실래요? would instead ask the other person to clean, so it changes the meaning.

3You are not sure what needs to be done. How do you ask a staff member what you should help with?

    Show a sample answer

    뭐 도와드리면 될까요?

This asks what you should help with and invites a specific task. 뭐 도와줄까? is possible with a close friend, but 도와드리면 될까요 is safer with staff or an organizer.

    Take this with you

At the end of a Korean club session, offer help with 의자 정리 도와드릴까요? and join in with 같이 치울게요. Keep the polite -요 register, use 도와드릴까요 with organizers and staff, and confirm specific tasks before moving things.
