Chinese for Retrieving a Forgotten Item from a Shared Bike Basket

Learn Mandarin phrases to say you left something in a bike basket, ask if it is still there, and contact support, with casual bike-sharing dialogue and practice.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.
Friends planning a trip around a map in a warmly lit café

You have just locked a shared bike and walked away when you realize your bag, keys, or coffee is still sitting in the front basket. This lesson gives you the exact Mandarin you need for that moment. You will learn how to name the basket (车筐), say you left something behind (落东西了), and explain that you want to go back and look (回去找). You will also practice asking whether the item is still there (还在吗) and how to contact support (联系客服). The register stays casual and practical, the way people actually talk while standing on a sidewalk with a phone in one hand.

    By the end, you can…

    • say that I left something in a shared bike basket.
    • ask whether an item is still there.
    • say I am going back to look for it.
    • ask how to contact customer support.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    我的东西落在车筐里了。

I left my stuff in the bike basket.

wǒ de dōngxi là zài chēkuāng li le

Use 落 (là) for accidentally leaving something behind. 车筐 is the front basket on a shared bike.

    我回去找一下。

I'll go back and look for it.

    wǒ huíqù zhǎo yíxià

A natural, casual way to say you are heading back to check. 一下 softens the action.

    还在吗?

    Is it still there?

    hái zài ma

Ask this about the item, not the bike. It works in person or on the phone with support.

    怎么联系客服?

How do I contact customer support?

    zěnme liánxì kèfú

Use this in the app or with a passerby when you need the company's help.

    我刚骑的那辆车,车筐里有个包。

The bike I just rode, there's a bag in its basket.

wǒ gāng qí de nà liàng chē, chēkuāng li yǒu ge bāo

Gives staff the key details: the bike you just used and the item in the basket.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The core pattern is 落在 + place + 了, meaning something was accidentally left somewhere. For example, 我的钥匙落在车筐里了 (wǒ de yàoshi là zài chēkuāng li le) means my keys were left in the basket. To say you are going back to find it, use 回去找 (huíqù zhǎo). You can add 一下 for a lighter tone: 我回去找一下. To check whether it is still there, ask 还在吗 (hái zài ma). These three chunks cover the whole situation: what happened, what you will do, and what you want to know.

    When to use it

Use 落东西了 when you are explaining the problem to a friend, a passerby, or support staff. Use 回去找 when you are telling someone your plan, for example 我现在回去找 (wǒ xiànzài huíqù zhǎo), I am going back now. Use 还在吗 when you want a quick yes-or-no answer about the item. If you need official help, ask 怎么联系客服? In a chat with support, you can write 我东西落在车筐里了,能帮我看看吗? (wǒ dōngxi là zài chēkuāng li le, néng bāng wǒ kànkan ma), which politely asks them to check.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

    哎,我的包落在车筐里了。

Oh no, I left my bag in the bike basket.āi, wǒ de bāo là zài chēkuāng li le
    B

    哪辆车?还在吗?

Which bike? Is it still there?nǎ liàng chē? hái zài ma
    A

    就刚才那辆。我回去找一下。

The one from just now. I'll go back and look.jiù gāngcái nà liàng. wǒ huíqù zhǎo yíxià
    B

    要是找不到,就联系客服。

If you can't find it, contact customer support.yàoshi zhǎo bu dào, jiù liánxì kèfú

A little context goes a long way

In mainland China, shared bikes are usually unlocked through an app, and the bike's ID or recent ride is visible in your ride history. When you speak to support, it helps to mention the time and the bike number. Keep your tone calm and factual; 客服 staff deal with many lost-item requests and respond best to clear details. Among friends, 落东西了 is common and casual, while with staff you may add 麻烦你 (máfan nǐ) to sound polite.

    One thing to watch for

Saying 我忘了我的包在车筐里 instead of using 落.

Try this instead: 忘 (wàng) means to forget in general, but for accidentally leaving an object somewhere, Chinese uses 落 (là): 我的包落在车筐里了. This clearly means the bag was left behind in the basket, not that you forgot what a bag is.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you say 'I left my phone in the bike basket'?

    Show a sample answer

    我的手机落在车筐里了。

This uses 落在 + place + 了 with 手机 (phone) and 车筐 (basket). You could also say 我把手机落在车筐里了, which is equally correct.

2A friend asks if your item is still there. What question did they likely ask?

    Show a sample answer

    还在吗?

还在吗 asks whether the item is still present. 还 means 'still' and 在 means 'be there'. A fuller version is 东西还在吗?

3You cannot find the item and want official help. What do you ask?

    Show a sample answer

    怎么联系客服?

This asks how to contact customer support. In an app chat you might instead write 能帮我联系客服吗? Both are appropriate; the first is more direct.

    Take this with you

Remember three chunks for a forgotten item: 落在车筐里了 for what happened, 回去找一下 for your plan, and 还在吗 or 联系客服 when you need information or help.
