Chinese for Finding a Shared Bike Nearby: 附近有车吗, 地图, 预约
Learn practical Mandarin for checking bike availability nearby in a bike-share app: ask 附近有车吗, read the 地图, use 预约, and say 显示有车 but 找不到.

This lesson focuses on one real situation: you open a shared-bike app, the map looks promising, but you need to confirm whether there are actually bikes nearby and what to do if you cannot find them. You will learn a small set of reusable Mandarin patterns for asking about availability, checking the map, reserving a bike, and reporting a mismatch between what the app shows and what you see. The register is casual and app-centered, so the language stays short and practical. You will practice 附近有车吗 (are there bikes nearby?), 地图 (map), 预约 (reserve), 显示有车 (shows available), and 找不到 (can't find). The goal is not to memorize service rules or prices, but to ask clear questions and describe what you observe.
By the end, you can…
- ask whether there are shared bikes nearby using 附近有车吗.
- talk about what the map shows and where to look.
- reserve a bike with 预约 and confirm it.
- say the app shows a bike but I cannot find it using 显示有车 and 找不到.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

附近有车吗?
Are there bikes nearby?
fùjìn yǒu chē ma?
A direct, casual way to ask about availability in a bike-share context. Use it with a friend, a staff member, or in a chat. With staff, 请问 can soften it: 请问,附近有车吗?
地图上显示有车。
The map shows there are bikes.
dìtú shang xiǎnshì yǒu chē.
Use 地图 for the map in the app. 显示有车 means the app indicates availability, not a guarantee that you will see the bike immediately. In 地图上, 上 is neutral-toned: dìtú shang.
我可以预约这辆吗?
Can I reserve this one?
wǒ kěyǐ yùyuē zhè liàng ma?
预约 means to reserve. 这辆 refers to one bike (辆 is the measure word for vehicles). Use it when you have a specific bike in mind. 可以 here asks about possibility or permission.
我找不到那辆车。
I can't find that bike.
wǒ zhǎo bu dào nà liàng chē.
找不到 means cannot find. 不 is neutral-toned here: zhǎo bu dào. This is useful when the app shows a bike but you do not see it at the location.
附近还有别的车吗?
Are there other bikes nearby?
fùjìn hái yǒu bié de chē ma?
别的 means 'other'. This asks for alternatives without asking about prices or policies. 别的 is pronounced bié de, with 的 neutral.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.
Make it make sense
Useful pattern
The core pattern is 附近有…吗 (are there … nearby?). Put a noun after 有: 附近有车吗? (Are there bikes nearby?) 附近有地铁站吗? (Is there a subway station nearby?) For app context, 地图上显示… (the map shows …) is equally useful: 地图上显示有车。 (The map shows bikes.) To report a problem, use 找不到 (can't find): 我找不到那辆车。 (I can't find that bike.) To ask for an alternative, use 还有…吗 (are there still/also …?): 附近还有别的车吗? (Are there other bikes nearby?) These patterns are short, reusable, and fit casual conversation. Note the neutral tone in 地图上 (dìtú shang), 找不到 (zhǎo bu dào), and 别的 (bié de).
When to use it
Use 附近有车吗? when you first open the app or arrive in an area and want a quick yes-or-no answer. Use 地图上显示有车 when you are looking at the map and want to confirm what you see. Use 我可以预约这辆吗? when you want to hold a specific bike before walking to it. Use 我找不到那辆车 when you are at the location but the bike is not visible. Use 附近还有别的车吗? when the first option fails and you want to keep looking. These are conversational moves, not service guarantees; staff may answer based on what they can see or check. In all of these, 上 in 地图上 and 不 in 找不到 are neutral-toned: dìtú shang, zhǎo bu dào.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
附近有车吗?我在地图上看不太清楚。
Are there bikes nearby? I can't see clearly on the map.fùjìn yǒu chē ma? wǒ zài dìtú shang kàn bu qīngchu.地图上显示有车,就在前面路口。
The map shows there are bikes, right at the intersection ahead.dìtú shang xiǎnshì yǒu chē, jiù zài qiánmiàn lùkǒu.我可以预约这辆吗?我怕走过去就没了。
Can I reserve this one? I'm afraid it will be gone by the time I walk over.wǒ kěyǐ yùyuē zhè liàng ma? wǒ pà zǒu guòqu jiù méi le.可以试试预约。如果找不到,附近还有别的车吗?
You can try to reserve it. If you can't find it, are there other bikes nearby?kěyǐ shìshi yùyuē. rúguǒ zhǎo bu dào, fùjìn hái yǒu bié de chē ma?A little context goes a long way
In app-based bike sharing in mainland China, people often speak in short, practical phrases and may switch between the app and face-to-face questions. 预约 is commonly understood as holding a bike for a short time, but the exact rules can vary by app and city, so ask rather than assume. Politeness is usually light: 请问 can soften a question to staff, while 附近有车吗? is fine with friends. Avoid treating the map as a promise; 显示有车 describes what the app shows, not a guarantee that the bike is physically there. Note that 地图上 (dìtú shang) and 找不到 (zhǎo bu dào) use neutral tones on 上 and 不.
One thing to watch for
Translating 'I can't find it' as 我不找到它.
Try this instead: Use 找不到 (zhǎo bu dào) for 'can't find'. Say 我找不到那辆车。 (I can't find that bike.) 找不到 is a fixed, common pattern; 不找到 is not used this way in everyday Mandarin. The 不 here is neutral-toned: zhǎo bu dào.
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.
1How do you ask a friend whether there are shared bikes nearby?
Show a sample answer
附近有车吗?
This uses 附近 (nearby) + 有 (have) + 车 (bike) + 吗 (question particle). It is direct and casual. You could also ask 附近有共享单车吗? if you want to be more specific. 共享单车 is pronounced gòngxiǎng dānchē.
2The app shows a bike, but you are at the spot and do not see it. What can you say?
Show a sample answer
地图上显示有车,但是我找不到。
This contrasts what the app shows (显示有车) with your real situation (找不到). You could also say 我找不到那辆车。 Both are natural. Remember the neutral tone in 找不到: zhǎo bu dào.
3You want to hold a specific bike before walking to it. What question fits?
Show a sample answer
我可以预约这辆吗?
预约 means reserve, and 这辆 refers to one bike. This asks permission or possibility. A valid alternative is 这辆可以预约吗? (Can this one be reserved?) 预约 is pronounced yùyuē.
Keep three moves ready: ask 附近有车吗?, check 地图上显示有车, and report 我找不到. Use 预约 when you want to hold a bike, and 还有别的车吗? to keep looking. Watch the neutral tones: dìtú shang, zhǎo bu dào, bié de.
