Beginner speaking practice for expressing hobbies, asking about free time, and talking about frequency in Spanish.

Free lesson path Phrase audioNo sign-up needed

In this workshop you will practice talking about hobbies in Spanish. You will learn to say what you love doing, ask someone what they like to do in their free time, and ask how often they do it. The practice uses short, natural exchanges so you can speak with confidence. You will hear native examples, repeat them, and then try both roles in a conversation. The goal is to help you move from understanding the phrases to using them in your own speaking.

    Saying What You Love

To express strong enthusiasm for an activity, use the phrase in «Me encanta la fotografía.». This means the activity is very pleasing to you. It is a strong way to say you love something. If you want to talk about spending a long time doing an activity, you can use the pattern in «Paso horas jugando videojuegos.». This shows that you dedicate many hours to that activity. Together, these two phrases let you share a hobby with energy and detail. Practice saying them slowly, then at a natural speed. Pay attention to the rhythm and the clear vowels.

    Asking About Free Time

A friendly way to start a conversation about hobbies is the question in «¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?». This asks what the other person likes to do in their free time. It is a common and useful question for beginners. After you hear an answer, you can ask for more details with the question in «¿Con qué frecuencia...?». This means 'how often...?' and you can add any activity after it. For example, you can ask how often someone practices, reads, or plays. Using these two questions helps you keep a conversation going and shows interest in the other person.

    Putting It Together

Now look at a short exchange. One person asks the question in «¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?». The other person answers with the phrases in «Me encanta la fotografía. Paso horas tomando fotos.». Then the first person reacts with interest and asks the frequency question in «¡Qué interesante! ¿Con qué frecuencia practicas?». The second person answers with a frequency expression and returns the question in «Casi todos los días. ¿Y a ti qué te gusta?». Notice how the conversation flows naturally from question to answer to follow-up. Your turn: read each line aloud, then try to say the answer without looking. This builds your speaking confidence step by step.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Checking available voices…

    Me encanta la fotografía.

    1

    Guided Exchange: Share Your Hobby

Imagine you are talking with a new friend. You want to tell them about a hobby you love and how much time you spend on it.

Your task: Listen to the native model in «Me encanta la fotografía.» and «Paso horas jugando videojuegos.». Repeat each line aloud three times. Then say your own version: use the pattern from «Me encanta la fotografía.» with a hobby you enjoy, and the pattern from «Paso horas jugando videojuegos.» with an activity you spend hours doing. Speak clearly and at a comfortable speed.

    2

Reply Comprehension: Choose the Right Response

You hear someone ask you a question about your free time. You need to choose a suitable reply from the options you have learned.

Your task: Read the question in «¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?». Then look at the two possible replies below. Which one answers the question correctly? Option A: «Me encanta la fotografía.». Option B: «¿Con qué frecuencia...?». Say your chosen reply aloud. Then explain in English why the other option does not answer the question.

    3

Recall and Role-Play: Ask and Answer

You will now practice a full mini-conversation. One person asks about free time, the other answers, and then they ask about frequency.

Your task: Listen to the exchange in «¿Qué te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre?», «Me encanta la fotografía. Paso horas tomando fotos.», «¡Qué interesante! ¿Con qué frecuencia practicas?», and «Casi todos los días. ¿Y a ti qué te gusta?». Then play both roles. First, read the lines aloud as they are. Next, cover the text and try to remember your part. Finally, swap roles and do it again. Use the exact phrases from the recordings.

    Common questions

How can I practice speaking if I am alone?

You can play the recordings and repeat each line aloud. Then play one role and speak the other role yourself. You can also record your voice and compare it to the native audio. This helps you hear your own progress and improve your pronunciation.

What should I do if I forget a phrase during the role-play?

It is normal to forget at first. Pause, listen to the recording again, and repeat the line. Then try the exchange once more. With each repetition, the phrases will become easier to remember and say naturally.
