In this workshop you will practice asking where grocery items are and understanding simple aisle directions in Spanish. You will use recorded lines from a shopper and a staff member. The shopper asks about milk, rice, and eggs. The staff member gives aisle and location information. You will first repeat and understand each line, then do three speaking tasks: a guided exchange, a reply comprehension choice, and a recall with role swap. Each task includes an answer or self-check so you can confirm your speaking and listening.
Asking for an item
The shopper uses three polite ways to ask about products. «Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar la leche?» means the shopper is asking where to find milk. «¿Me puede decir dónde está el arroz?» means the shopper asks if the other person can tell them where the rice is. «Busco los huevos.» means the shopper is looking for eggs. «¿En qué pasillo está?» means the shopper asks which aisle the item is in. Notice that each line names a different grocery item: milk, rice, or eggs. When you speak, say the item clearly and keep a polite tone. You can use these lines in a store when you do not see the product. Practice each line aloud, then move to the next section to hear how a staff member replies.
Understanding the reply
The staff member answers with aisle and position information. «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.» gives an aisle number and a side: aisle three, on the left. «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.» means the eggs are next to the milk, in the same aisle. The shopper then asks a follow-up about eggs with «Gracias. ¿Y los huevos?», which means the shopper thanks the staff member and asks about the eggs. The reply «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.» connects the eggs to the milk's location. When you listen, focus on the aisle number and the position word. In «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.», the location is on the left. In «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.», the eggs are next to the milk. These details help you find the item without asking again. Practice repeating the staff lines and point left or forward as you say them.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar la leche?
Excuse me, where can I find the milk?Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.

Thank you. And the eggs?Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided store exchange
You are a shopper in a grocery store. You need milk. A staff member is nearby. Use the recorded shopper line for milk, then listen to the recorded staff reply.
Your task: Say the shopper line «Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar la leche?» aloud. Then play the staff reply «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.» and repeat it aloud. After that, ask about eggs using «Gracias. ¿Y los huevos?». Finally, play and repeat the staff reply «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.».
Choose the correct reply
You hear a shopper ask about milk. You have two possible staff replies in mind. One is the recorded reply «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.». The other is a different sentence that does not match the question.
Your task: Listen to the shopper question «Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar la leche?». Then choose the correct staff reply: «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.» or a sentence about eggs. Say the correct reply aloud. Then listen to the shopper follow-up «Gracias. ¿Y los huevos?» and choose the correct reply: «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.» or a sentence about milk only.
Recall and swap roles
You will now recall the store conversation. First, you are the shopper. Then you swap roles and become the staff member. The order of the conversation stays the same: question, reply, follow-up, reply.
Your task: As the shopper, say «Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar la leche?» from memory. Then play «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.» and repeat it. Next, say «Gracias. ¿Y los huevos?» from memory. Then play «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.» and repeat it. Now swap roles: you are the staff member. Listen to «Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar la leche?» and say «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.» from memory. Listen to «Gracias. ¿Y los huevos?» and say «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.» from memory.
Common questions
Can I practice alone without a partner?
Yes. You can play each recording and repeat the line aloud. For the guided exchange, say the shopper lines yourself and use the recordings for the staff replies. For the role swap, say the staff lines yourself after listening to the shopper recordings. There is no automatic assessment, so use the self-check in each exercise to confirm your speaking.
What should I focus on when I listen to the staff replies?
Focus on the aisle number and the position words. In «Claro, está en el pasillo tres, a la izquierda.», the reply gives an aisle and a side: aisle three, on the left. In «Los huevos están junto a la leche, en el mismo pasillo.», the eggs are next to the milk, in the same aisle. These details tell you where to go. Repeat the staff lines aloud and point left or forward as you say them to connect the words with the direction.
