The core pattern is '¿Dónde puedo encontrar + [item]?' This literally means 'Where can I find + [item]?' You can replace the item with almost any grocery product: '¿Dónde puedo encontrar el pan?' (Where can I find the bread?), '¿Dónde puedo encontrar las frutas?' (Where can I find the fruits?), or '¿Dónde puedo encontrar la pasta de dientes?' (Where can I find the toothpaste?). Notice that Spanish grocery items usually take an article: 'el pan', 'la leche', 'los huevos', 'las manzanas'. If you do not know the article, you can often still be understood, but using it sounds more natural. For a shorter question, you can also say '¿Dónde está el pan?' (Where is the bread?).
When to use it
Use '¿Dónde puedo encontrar...?' when you are inside a store and need help locating a product. It is polite enough for a supermarket employee and clear enough for a small shop. If you are asking a person who is not an employee, add 'Disculpe' first: 'Disculpe, ¿dónde puedo encontrar el azúcar?' If you want to be more formal, use '¿Me puede decir dónde está...?' For example: '¿Me puede decir dónde está la sal?' (Can you tell me where the salt is?). When you hear an answer, listen for 'pasillo' (aisle), 'a la derecha' (to the right), 'a la izquierda' (to the left), 'al fondo' (at the back), or 'junto a' (next to).

In many Latin American grocery stores, employees are used to giving quick directions by aisle number and side. A simple 'Disculpe' before your question is polite and common. In smaller shops, the owner may walk you to the product instead of giving an aisle number. In Spain, you may hear '¿Dónde está...?' more often, and 'pasillo' is also used, but some vocabulary for store sections can differ.
One thing to watch for
Saying '¿Dónde puedo encontrar leche?' without an article because English often drops 'the' in general questions.
Try this instead: In Spanish, it is more natural to include the article: '¿Dónde puedo encontrar la leche?' Use 'el' for masculine singular nouns, 'la' for feminine singular nouns, 'los' for masculine plural, and 'las' for feminine plural. For example: 'el pan', 'la leche', 'los huevos', 'las manzanas'. If you are unsure of the gender, you can still be understood, but learning the article with the noun helps.
