In this workshop you will practice a short, natural exchange about food. You will ask what someone's favorite food is, answer with your own favorite, and ask what someone likes to eat. You will also listen to a reply that adds a second food preference. The recordings give you clear models, so you can repeat, swap roles, and check your answers without needing to invent new phrases.
Ask and answer about a favorite food
Start with the question «¿Cuál es tu comida favorita?», which means "What is your favorite food?" A simple answer is «Mi comida favorita es la pizza.», which means "My favorite food is pizza." Notice that the answer names one food directly. In a longer exchange, one speaker asks «¿Cuál es tu comida favorita?», which also means "What is your favorite food?" The other speaker answers with «Mi comida favorita es el pollo con arroz. ¿Y a ti?», which means "My favorite food is chicken with rice. And you?" The follow-up "And you?" invites the first speaker to answer too. Practice saying the question, then give a one-food answer, then ask the question back.
Ask and answer about what someone likes to eat
Another useful question is «¿Qué te gusta comer?», which means "What do you like to eat?" A matching answer is «Me gusta comer tacos.», which means "I like to eat tacos." This question asks about a food someone enjoys eating, not specifically a favorite. In a longer reply, one speaker says «A mí me gusta comer tacos. ¿Qué te gusta comer?», which means "I like to eat tacos. What do you like to eat?" The other speaker answers with «Me gusta comer pizza, pero también me gustan las frutas.», which means "I like to eat pizza, but I also like fruits." That reply gives one food and then adds a second food with "but I also like." Keep the same activity in the question and answer: if you ask what someone likes to eat, answer with what you like to eat.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Guided exchange: favorite food
You are at a language meetup. Your partner asks you a question about favorite food. Use the recorded question and answer as your model.
Your task: Read the question «¿Cuál es tu comida favorita?» aloud. Then answer with «Mi comida favorita es la pizza.». After that, ask the question again so your partner can answer.
Reply comprehension: choose the matching answer
You hear a question about what someone likes to eat. Choose the reply that matches the question.
Your task: Question: «¿Qué te gusta comer?». Which reply fits? A) «Me gusta comer tacos.» B) «Mi comida favorita es la pizza.». Say the letter and then read the full matching line aloud.
Recall with correct roles
Two speakers have a longer exchange. One speaker asks about favorite food and then about what someone likes to eat. The other speaker answers and adds a second food preference.
Your task: Read the exchange in order. Speaker A says «¿Cuál es tu comida favorita?». Speaker B says «Mi comida favorita es el pollo con arroz. ¿Y a ti?». Speaker A says «A mí me gusta comer tacos. ¿Qué te gusta comer?». Speaker B says «Me gusta comer pizza, pero también me gustan las frutas.». Then swap roles: Speaker B reads the A lines and Speaker A reads the B lines, keeping the same order.
Common questions
What is the difference between the two questions in this workshop?
One question asks about a favorite food, as in «¿Cuál es tu comida favorita?». The other asks what someone likes to eat, as in «¿Qué te gusta comer?». A favorite food answer names one food, like «Mi comida favorita es la pizza.». A likes-to-eat answer can name a food someone enjoys, like «Me gusta comer tacos.», and can add another food, like «Me gusta comer pizza, pero también me gustan las frutas.».
Can I practice alone if I do not have a partner?
Yes. You can read both roles aloud yourself. Read the question, then read the answer, then read the follow-up. You can also play the recordings and repeat after each line. There is no automatic assessment, so use the success criteria to check your own speaking.
