In this workshop you will practice a short Italian conversation about daily routines. You will hear and use recorded lines about waking up, having breakfast, going to work, taking the bus, and starting work. The goal is to understand the meaning of each line and to take part in a simple exchange where one person asks questions and the other answers. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys to check yourself.
Understanding the Key Lines
Before speaking, read the English meanings of the recorded lines. «Mi sveglio alle 7.» means that the person wakes up at 7. «Poi faccio colazione.» means that after waking up, the person has breakfast. «Vado al lavoro.» means that the person goes to work. «Alle 8 prendo l'autobus.» means that at eight o'clock the person takes the bus. «A che ora ti svegli di solito?» is a question: someone asks what time you usually wake up. «Mi sveglio alle 7, poi faccio colazione e vado al lavoro.» is an answer that combines three actions: waking up at 7, having breakfast, and going to work. «E a che ora inizi a lavorare?» asks what time you start working. «Inizio alle 9. La mattina lavoro, nel pomeriggio ho una pausa.» answers that the person starts at 9, works in the morning, and has a break in the afternoon. Notice that the question in «A che ora ti svegli di solito?» asks about waking up, and the answer in «Mi sveglio alle 7, poi faccio colazione e vado al lavoro.» gives that time first. The question in «E a che ora inizi a lavorare?» asks about starting work, and the answer in «Inizio alle 9. La mattina lavoro, nel pomeriggio ho una pausa.» gives that time first. Keep the same activity in the question and the answer.
Asking and Answering in Order
A simple routine exchange follows a clear order: a question comes first, then an answer, then a follow-up question, then a follow-up answer. In the recorded dialogue, speaker A asks «A che ora ti svegli di solito?», speaker B answers with «Mi sveglio alle 7, poi faccio colazione e vado al lavoro.», speaker A asks a follow-up with «E a che ora inizi a lavorare?», and speaker B answers with «Inizio alle 9. La mattina lavoro, nel pomeriggio ho una pausa.». When you practice, keep this order. Do not start with an answer before the question. If you swap roles, you change who reads each part, but the order stays the same: question, answer, follow-up question, follow-up answer. For example, if you play speaker A, you begin with «A che ora ti svegli di solito?»; if you play speaker B, you respond with «Mi sveglio alle 7, poi faccio colazione e vado al lavoro.». The follow-up «E a che ora inizi a lavorare?» asks about starting work, so the reply «Inizio alle 9. La mattina lavoro, nel pomeriggio ho una pausa.» gives the starting time and then adds what happens in the morning and afternoon. This keeps the subject and activity consistent across the exchange.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

I start at 9. In the morning I work, in the afternoon I have a break.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided Exchange: Ask and Answer
You will practice a short conversation with two roles. One person asks about waking up and starting work; the other answers with a full routine. Use the recorded lines in order.
Your task: Role A: say the question «A che ora ti svegli di solito?». Role B: answer with «Mi sveglio alle 7, poi faccio colazione e vado al lavoro.». Role A: ask the follow-up «E a che ora inizi a lavorare?». Role B: answer with «Inizio alle 9. La mattina lavoro, nel pomeriggio ho una pausa.». Then swap roles and repeat, keeping the same order.
Reply Comprehension: Choose the Matching Answer
You will hear or read a question and choose the recorded answer that matches it. The question asks about a specific activity, so the answer must give that same activity.
Your task: Question: «A che ora ti svegli di solito?». Which recorded line answers it? Choice 1: «Mi sveglio alle 7, poi faccio colazione e vado al lavoro.». Choice 2: «Inizio alle 9. La mattina lavoro, nel pomeriggio ho una pausa.». Choose the line that gives the time for waking up.
Recall with Correct Roles
You will recall the recorded exchange from memory and say it with the correct roles. One person asks, the other answers, and then the roles swap without changing the order.
Your task: Without looking at the lines, say the four parts of the exchange in order: question about waking up, answer about waking up and routine, follow-up question about starting work, answer about starting work and the day. Then swap roles and say the same four parts again.
Common questions
Can I practice alone if I do not have a partner?
Yes. You can play both roles with the audio. Say the question line, then pause and say the answer line yourself. Then swap roles and repeat. There is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys and success criteria to check your order and matching activities.
What should I check after swapping roles?
Check that the order stays the same: question, answer, follow-up question, follow-up answer. Also check that each question and its answer are about the same activity. For example, the question about waking up should be followed by an answer that gives the waking-up time, and the question about starting work should be followed by an answer that gives the starting time.
