In this workshop you practise a short, natural exchange about hobbies. You will ask whether someone likes hiking, answer that you do, ask the question back, and then confirm that you both enjoy the same thing. Each native line is given with its English meaning before you use it, so you always know what you are saying. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys in the exercises to check yourself.
Asking About a Hobby
The first move in this exchange is a simple yes-or-no question about an activity. «你喜欢徒步旅行吗?» means "Do you like hiking?" The question asks about liking an activity, so a short yes or no answer fits naturally. A related question about a different activity is «你下棋吗?», which means "Do you play chess?" Notice that both questions ask about an activity the other person may enjoy. When you ask, keep your tone light and let your voice rise slightly at the end. You do not need to add extra words; the question is complete on its own.
Answering and Returning the Question
A friendly answer often does two things: it confirms your own interest and then invites the other person to share theirs. «喜欢。你呢?» means "Yes, I do. And you?" The first part answers the question, and the second part hands the question back. This keeps the conversation going instead of stopping after one word. If you want to state your own liking directly, «我也喜欢!» means "I like it too!" Use it when the other person has already mentioned an activity you enjoy. After you answer, pause briefly so the other person can respond.
Confirming a Shared Interest
When both people like the same activity, you can name that shared interest. «我们都喜欢徒步旅行。» means "We both love hiking." This sentence states the common ground clearly. A short positive reaction is «太好了!», which means "Great!" You can use it to show you are pleased before suggesting a next step. «我也喜欢。我们都喜欢徒步旅行!» means "I like it too. We both love hiking!" and «太好了! means "Great! Let's go together." Together these lines move from agreement to a simple plan. Keep the order: answer, confirm the shared interest, react, then suggest going together.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.
Checking available voices…
We both love hiking.

Do you play chess?

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.
Do you like hiking?
Yes, I do. And you?
I like it too. We both love hiking!
Great! Let's go together.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided Exchange: Ask and Answer
You are chatting with a new classmate about weekend activities. One person asks about hiking; the other answers and returns the question.
Your task: Read the exchange aloud with a partner or the audio. Person A says «你喜欢徒步旅行吗?». Person B replies with «喜欢。 Then Person A confirms the shared interest with «我也喜欢。 After reading, swap roles and repeat so each of you practises both parts.
Reply Comprehension: Choose the Right Response
You hear someone ask a question about an activity. You need to choose the reply that fits the situation.
Your task: Situation 1: A friend asks «你下棋吗?», which means "Do you play chess?" You want to ask whether the friend likes hiking. Which line fits: «你喜欢徒步旅行吗?» or «太好了!»? Situation 2: You have just said you like hiking, and your friend says «我也喜欢!», which means "I like it too!" Which reply fits: «我们都喜欢徒步旅行。»
Recall and Role Swap: Put the Exchange in Order
You are rebuilding the conversation from memory. The lines are mixed up, and you must place them in a natural order.
Your task: Put these lines in order: «太好了! Then read the whole exchange aloud. After that, swap roles: the person who asked the first question now answers, and the person who answered now asks. Keep the same order of question, answer, confirmation, and suggestion.
Common questions
Can I use these lines for activities other than hiking?
The question and answer patterns are about liking an activity, so you can reuse the shape with another activity you have learned. However, the supplied recordings name hiking and chess, so keep those activities when you practise the exact lines. Do not swap in a new activity unless you already know how to say it.
What should I do if my partner answers with just a yes or no?
A short answer is still a valid reply. If you asked about hiking and your partner says yes, state your own interest with «我也喜欢!» ("I like it too!") when that is true. You can then confirm the shared interest with «我们都喜欢徒步旅行。» ("We both love hiking."). If your partner says no, do not claim that both of you like hiking. The answer-plus-return question «喜欢。 ("Yes, I do. And you?") belongs to the person answering the original question, not the person who asked it.
