In this workshop you will practice speaking Chinese lines that express affection. You will hear and repeat recorded native lines, understand their meanings, and use them in short guided exchanges. The recordings include lines such as «我想你。», «我很想你。», «你对我很重要。», «你对我特别好。», «好久不见,我很想你。», «我也想你。你对我很重要。», «谢谢你一直对我特别好。», and «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。». You will not need to invent new phrases; you will use these recorded lines as your speaking material. By the end, you should be able to say and respond to affectionate statements in Chinese with appropriate timing and roles.
Understanding the Recorded Lines
Each recorded line has a clear meaning. «我想你。» means 'I miss you.' «我很想你。» means 'I miss you very much.' «你对我很重要。» means 'You are very important to me.' «你对我特别好。» means 'You are especially good to me.' «好久不见,我很想你。» means 'Long time no see, I miss you very much.' «我也想你。你对我很重要。» means 'I miss you too. You are very important to me.' «谢谢你一直对我特别好。» means 'Thank you for always being so good to me.' «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。» means 'I care about you a lot, take good care of yourself.' Notice that some lines are statements of feeling, while others are responses or expressions of care. When you speak, focus on clear pronunciation and natural rhythm. You can play the recordings and repeat after them, or use them as prompts for your own speaking.
Roles and Turn Order
In a conversation, the order of turns matters. For example, in the recorded exchange, speaker A says «好久不见,我很想你。», and speaker B replies with «我也想你。你对我很重要。». Then speaker A says «谢谢你一直对我特别好。», and speaker B responds with «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。». This shows a sequence: a greeting and missing-you statement, a reply of missing too and importance, a thank-you for goodness, and a caring closing. When you practice, keep this order. If you swap roles, you still follow the same sequence: the person who starts with the greeting and missing statement speaks first, then the other replies, and so on. Do not begin with a reply before the opening line. This helps you learn natural turn-taking in Chinese.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.
好久不见,我很想你。
Long time no see, I miss you very much.我也想你。你对我很重要。
I miss you too. You are very important to me.谢谢你一直对我特别好。
Thank you for always being so good to me.我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。
I care about you a lot, take good care of yourself.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided Exchange: Greeting and Reply
You will practice a short exchange using recorded lines. Imagine two friends meeting after a long time. One friend starts with a greeting and missing statement, and the other replies.
Your task: First, listen to «好久不见,我很想你。» and repeat it aloud. Then listen to «我也想你。你对我很重要。» and repeat it aloud. Now, play both recordings in order and speak along with each line. If you have a partner, one person says «好久不见,我很想你。» and the other says «我也想你。你对我很重要。». If you are alone, say both lines yourself, pausing between them.
Reply Comprehension: Choose the Right Response
You will hear a line and choose the correct reply from two recorded options. This tests your understanding of the meaning and the appropriate response.
Your task: Listen to «谢谢你一直对我特别好。». It means 'Thank you for always being so good to me.' Which recorded line is a suitable reply: «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。» or «我想你。»? Say your choice aloud, then say the full reply line. After that, listen to «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。» and repeat it.
Recall and Role Swap: Full Exchange
You will recall the full recorded exchange and practice both roles. The exchange has four turns: A says «好久不见,我很想你。», B says «我也想你。你对我很重要。», A says «谢谢你一直对我特别好。», B says «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。».
Your task: First, listen to all four recordings in order: «好久不见,我很想你。», «我也想你。你对我很重要。», «谢谢你一直对我特别好。», «我很在乎你,你要照顾好自己。». Then, without looking at the text, try to say each line in order. If you forget, listen again and repeat. Next, swap roles: if you were A, now be B, but keep the same order of lines. Say the lines aloud in the correct sequence.
Common questions
Can I practice these lines alone without a partner?
Yes. You can play each recording and repeat after it. You can also say both roles yourself, pausing between lines. For example, say «好久不见,我很想你。», then pause, then say «我也想你。你对我很重要。». This helps you practice both speaking and listening.
What if I mix up the order of the lines?
The order matters for a natural exchange. Start with the opening line, such as «好久不见,我很想你。», then the reply, such as «我也想你。你对我很重要。». If you mix them up, listen to the recordings again and repeat in the correct sequence. With practice, the order will become automatic.
