Includes practice questions and sample answers.
Two friends sharing an evening conversation

In a Korean coin karaoke room (코인노래방), you pick songs with a remote control and they play in order. When you want to sing a duet with a friend, you need to add it to the queue. This lesson teaches you casual, spoken Korean to ask a friend to add a duet, to reserve it for the next turn, and to check the order. You will use three key words: 듀엣 (duet), 예약 (reservation), and 순서 (order/turn). The patterns are informal and friendly, perfect for friends. You will also learn how to ask staff simple questions without assuming specific policies. By the end, you can manage the queue smoothly and enjoy singing together.

    By the end, you can…

    • ask a friend to add a duet song to the queue using casual Korean.
    • reserve a duet for the next turn with the pattern 다음 곡에 예약해줘.
    • ask about the current order or turn using 순서.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    듀엣으로 넣어줄래?

Can you add it as a duet?

    dyu-et-eu-ro neo-eo-jul-lae?

Use when you want a friend to add a song as a duet. 듀엣으로 means 'as a duet'; 넣어줄래? is a casual request meaning 'will you put it in (for me)?'.

    다음 곡에 예약해줘.

Queue it for the next song.

    da-eum gok-e ye-yak-hae-jwo.

Ask to put a song in the queue right after the current one. 다음 곡에 means 'for the next song'; 예약해줘 is 'queue it' (in karaoke, 예약 means putting a song in the queue).

    순서 어떻게 돼?

What's the order? / How does the queue look?

    sun-seo eo-tteo-ke dwae?

Casual way to ask about the current queue order. Use with friends or when checking the screen.

    이거 듀엣으로 해줘.

    Please make this a duet.

    i-geo dyu-et-eu-ro hae-jwo.

Direct request to change a song to duet mode. 이거 means 'this one'; 해줘 is 'do it for me'.

    예약 취소해줘.

    Cancel the reservation.

    ye-yak chwi-so-hae-jwo.

Use if you need to remove a song from the queue. 예약 취소 means 'canceling the queue entry'; 취소해줘 is 'cancel it'.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The pattern '듀엣으로 넣어줄래?' combines 듀엣 (duet) + 으로 (as) + 넣어줄래? (can you put it in?). It is a casual request to add a song as a duet. You can swap 듀엣 with other words: '이 노래로 넣어줄래?' (Can you add this song?). The verb 넣다 means 'to put in', and the ending -어줄래? asks a friend to do something for you. For a more direct command, use '듀엣으로 넣어줘' (Add it as a duet). Both are informal and suitable for friends.

    When to use it

Use these phrases when you are in a coin karaoke room with friends and want to manage the song queue. If you are holding the remote, you can say '다음 곡에 예약해줘' to ask a friend to queue a duet for the next turn. If a friend is controlling the remote, say '듀엣으로 넣어줄래?' to request a duet. To check the order, ask '순서 어떻게 돼?'. Avoid using these with staff unless you use polite speech; with staff, say '듀엣으로 넣어 주시겠어요?' instead. These phrases are for friends, not for formal situations.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

    야, 이 노래 듀엣으로 넣어줄래?

    Hey, can you add this song as a duet?ya, i no-rae dyu-et-eu-ro neo-eo-jul-lae?

Two songs left now. After that, it's our duet.ji-geum du gok na-ma-sseo. geu-da-eum-e uri dyu-et-i-ya.

A little context goes a long way

In Korean coin karaoke rooms, the remote control is usually shared among friends, so queue management is often collaborative. Using casual speech (반말) is normal among close friends, but if you are not close, use polite speech (존댓말). The word 예약 usually means 'reservation' for services, but in karaoke it means putting a song in the queue. 순서 means 'order' or 'turn'. Staff typically do not control the queue; they usually just manage the room. If you need help, ask politely: '듀엣으로 넣는 법 알려주시겠어요?' (Could you tell me how to add a duet?).

    One thing to watch for

Using '예약' to mean 'reserve a room' when you actually mean 'add a song to the queue'.

Try this instead: In karaoke, 예약 refers to queuing a song. For a room reservation, use '방 예약' (room reservation). For a song, say '곡 예약' or '노래 예약'. Example: '이 노래 곡 예약해줘' (Please queue this song).

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you ask a friend to add a song as a duet in casual Korean?

    Show a sample answer

    듀엣으로 넣어줄래?

This uses 듀엣으로 (as a duet) and 넣어줄래? (can you put it in?). It is a friendly request. You could also say '듀엣으로 넣어줘' as a direct command.

2What phrase means 'Reserve it for the next song'?

    Show a sample answer

    다음 곡에 예약해줘.

다음 곡에 means 'for the next song', and 예약해줘 means 'queue it'. This is used to queue a song right after the current one.

3How do you ask 'What's the order?' in casual Korean?

    Show a sample answer

    순서 어떻게 돼?

순서 means 'order' or 'turn', and 어떻게 돼? is a casual way to ask 'how is it?'. You could also say '순서 어떻게 되어 있어?' for a slightly longer form.

    Take this with you

Use 듀엣으로 넣어줄래? to request a duet, 다음 곡에 예약해줘 to queue it next, and 순서 어떻게 돼? to check the order. Keep it casual with friends, and switch to polite speech with staff.
