A warm illustrated language study space

When your laundry pickup tag is missing, you need to explain the situation clearly and politely in Korean. This lesson teaches you how to say your receipt tag is gone, describe your bag and its contents as evidence, and ask staff to check the log. You will practice key terms like 찾는 번호 (claim number) and 영수증 (receipt), and use the pattern 이 가방 제 거 같아요 (This bag seems to be mine). The focus is on polite, intermediate-level conversation for a neighborhood laundry or alterations shop.

    By the end, you can…

    • explain that my receipt tag is missing and ask staff to check the log.
    • describe my bag and its contents to prove ownership.
    • politely claim a bag using 이 가방 제 거 같아요.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    영수증을 잃어버렸어요.

    I lost my receipt.

    yeong-sujeung-eul irheo-beoryeosseoyo

Use this to state the problem clearly at the counter. It is polite and direct.

    찾는 번호가 어떻게 되세요?

    What is your claim number?

    chatneun beonhoga eotteoke doeseyo?

Staff may ask this. You can also use it to confirm what they need.

    이 가방 제 거 같아요.

This bag seems to be mine.

    i gabang je geo gatayo

A soft, polite way to claim a bag without sounding too forceful.

    안에 운동복하고 셔츠가 있어요.

There are workout clothes and a shirt inside.

    ane undongbokhago syeocheuga isseoyo

Describe contents as evidence when several bags look similar.

    장부를 확인해 주시겠어요?

Could you check the log, please?

    jangbureul hwagin-hae jusigesseoyo?

A polite request for staff to look up your record. Use 겠 for extra politeness.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The pattern 이 가방 제 거 같아요 uses the possessive 제 (my) with 거 같아요 (seems like). It softens your claim, which is important when several bags look alike. You can change the noun: 이 옷 제 거 같아요 (These clothes seem to be mine). To ask staff to check, use 장부를 확인해 주시겠어요? (Could you check the log?). For describing contents, use 안에 + item + 가/이 있어요: 안에 셔츠가 있어요 (There is a shirt inside). These patterns let you present evidence politely without demanding.

    When to use it

Use these phrases when your receipt tag is gone and you need to identify your bag. Start with 영수증을 잃어버렸어요 to explain the problem. If staff asks for your claim number, say 찾는 번호는 [number]예요 (My claim number is [number]). When pointing at a bag, say 이 가방 제 거 같아요. If they hesitate, add 안에 [items]가 있어요 to give proof. Finally, ask 장부를 확인해 주시겠어요? to have them check the log. This sequence keeps the conversation polite and clear.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

    안녕하세요, 영수증을 잃어버렸어요.

    Hello, I lost my receipt.annyeonghaseyo, yeong-sujeung-eul irheo-beoryeosseoyo.

I remember the number, but this bag seems to be mine. There are workout clothes and a shirt inside.beonhoneun gieongnaneunde, i gabang je geo gatayo. ane undongbokhago syeocheuga isseoyo.
    B

네, 장부를 확인해 드릴게요. 잠시만 기다려 주세요.

Okay, I will check the log for you. Please wait a moment.ne, jangbureul hwagin-hae deurilgeyo. jamsiman gidaryeo juseyo.

A little context goes a long way

In Korean shops, politeness is shown through verb endings and tone. Using -요 endings and 주시겠어요 keeps requests respectful. Staff may ask for 찾는 번호 rather than your name, so having it ready helps. Avoid raising your voice; a calm, polite explanation is more effective.

    One thing to watch for

Saying 이 가방은 내 거예요 (This bag is mine) too bluntly.

Try this instead: Use 이 가방 제 거 같아요 to sound softer and more polite. The literal 내 거예요 can feel assertive; the 같아요 pattern means 'seems like' and is better when proving ownership.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you say 'I lost my receipt' politely?

    Show a sample answer

    영수증을 잃어버렸어요.

This uses the polite -요 ending and the verb 잃어버리다 (to lose). It is direct but polite.

2What phrase can you use to claim a bag softly?

    Show a sample answer

    이 가방 제 거 같아요.

This means 'This bag seems to be mine.' The 같아요 softens the claim. You could also say 이 가방 제 거예요 if you are certain, but 같아요 is safer.

3How do you ask staff to check the log?

    Show a sample answer

    장부를 확인해 주시겠어요?

This is a polite request using -주시겠어요. You can also say 장부 좀 확인해 주세요 for a slightly less formal but still polite request.

    Take this with you

When your tag is missing, stay polite: explain with 영수증을 잃어버렸어요, claim softly with 이 가방 제 거 같아요, and ask staff to check the log with 장부를 확인해 주시겠어요.
