Korean for Kiosk Receipts: Ask for an English Version or Translation

Learn to say 영수증, ask 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요?, and politely ask 이거 무슨 메뉴예요? when your Korean receipt prints in Korean.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.
A warm illustrated language study space

You finish ordering at a Korean self-service kiosk, and the receipt prints — but everything is in Korean. You want an English version or at least to understand the items. This lesson gives you polite, reusable Korean for exactly that moment. You will learn the word 영수증 (receipt), how to ask if the receipt can come out in English with 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요?, and how to point at a line and ask 이거 무슨 메뉴예요? (What menu item is this?). You will also read common receipt headers like 주문내역 (order details) and 결제금액 (payment amount). The focus is speaking with staff at the counter or kiosk area, not translating the whole receipt yourself. Keep your tone polite and simple; staff are used to helping, but they are not translators. Use these patterns as building blocks, and adjust the item word when needed.

    By the end, you can…

    • ask for a receipt in Korean using 영수증.
    • ask whether the receipt can be printed in English with 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요?
    • point to an item and ask 이거 무슨 메뉴예요? for clarification.
    • recognize common Korean receipt headers such as 주문내역 and 결제금액.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    영수증

    receipt

    yeong-su-jeung

The basic noun. Say it while pointing at the kiosk receipt slot or holding up your receipt. It is not a full sentence, so combine it with a request like 영수증 주세요 if you need one.

    영수증 주세요.

    Please give me the receipt.

    yeong-su-jeung ju-se-yo

Polite request for a receipt. Use it at the counter if the kiosk did not print one or if you need a copy. 주세요 is a safe polite request ending.

    영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요?

Can it come out in English? / Can you make it print in English?

    yeong-eo-ro na-o-ge hal su i-sseo-yo?

Ask this when you want the receipt or screen in English. 영어로 means 'in English'; 나오게 하다 means 'make it come out.' Use a gentle rising intonation.

    이거 무슨 메뉴예요?

    What menu item is this?

    i-geo mu-seun me-nyu-ye-yo?

Point at one line on the receipt. 이거 means 'this one.' Use it for food or drink items. For a fee or charge, you can ask 이거 뭐예요? instead.

    주문내역

    order details / order list

    ju-mun-nae-yeok

A common receipt header above the list of items you ordered. Recognizing it helps you find the item lines quickly.

    결제금액

    payment amount / total paid

    gyeol-je-geum-aek

A common receipt header showing the total amount paid. Look here to confirm the final charge.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The pattern 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? is made of 영어로 (in English), 나오게 (so that it comes out), and 할 수 있어요? (can you do it?). You can swap 영어로 for other languages: 중국어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? (Can it come out in Chinese?), 일본어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? (Can it come out in Japanese?). If you want to be more specific, say 영수증을 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? (Can you make the receipt come out in English?). The verb 나오다 means 'to come out,' which fits a receipt printing from a machine. Keep the question polite with -요 at the end.

    When to use it

Use these phrases at the counter or self-order kiosk area, not in the middle of a busy line. Start with 영수증 주세요 if you simply need the receipt. If it already printed but is in Korean, hold it and ask 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? If the staff says it is not possible, you can point to a line and ask 이거 무슨 메뉴예요? to understand the items one by one. For the total, check the header 결제금액 and ask 결제금액이 얼마예요? (How much is the payment amount?) if you need confirmation. Always use polite -요 endings with staff.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

저기요, 영수증이 한국어로 나왔어요. 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요?

Excuse me, the receipt came out in Korean. Can it come out in English?jeo-gi-yo, yeong-su-jeung-i han-guk-eo-ro na-wa-sseo-yo. yeong-eo-ro na-o-ge hal su i-sseo-yo?
    B

아, 죄송해요. 여기 키오스크는 영어로 안 나와요. 제가 하나씩 알려 드릴게요.

    Ah, sorry. The kiosk here does not print in English. I will tell you one by one.a, joe-song-hae-yo. yeo-gi ki-o-seu-keu-neun yeong-eo-ro an na-wa-yo. je-ga ha-na-ssik al-lyeo deu-ril-ge-yo.
    A

    네, 감사합니다. 이거 무슨 메뉴예요?

    Okay, thank you. What menu item is this?ne, gam-sa-ham-ni-da. i-geo mu-seun me-nyu-ye-yo?
    B

그건 불고기 버거예요. 그리고 아래에 결제금액이 있어요.

    That is a bulgogi burger. And the payment amount is below.geu-geon bul-go-gi beo-geo-ye-yo. geu-ri-go a-rae-e gyeol-je-geum-aek-i i-sseo-yo.

A little context goes a long way

In Korea, staff at busy kiosk restaurants may not have an English receipt option, and asking for one is a request, not a guaranteed service. Use a soft, polite tone with -요 endings and say 감사합니다 when they help. Pointing at a receipt line while asking 이거 무슨 메뉴예요? is normal and practical. Avoid demanding a translation of the entire receipt; ask about the specific items you need.

    One thing to watch for

Saying 영어로 영수증? as a standalone phrase, or using 반말 like 영어로 나와? with staff.

Try this instead: Use a full polite question: 영수증을 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? or 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? The -요 ending keeps it polite. 반말 such as 나와? is for close friends or children, not staff.

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1You want to ask if the receipt can print in English. What do you say?

    Show a sample answer

영수증을 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요?

This uses the polite question pattern with 영수증을 (receipt, object) and 영어로 (in English). You can also say 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? if the receipt is already in your hand.

2You are pointing at one line on the receipt and want to know what dish it is. What do you ask?

    Show a sample answer

    이거 무슨 메뉴예요?

이거 means 'this one,' and 무슨 메뉴예요? asks 'what menu item is it?' For a non-food charge, 이거 뭐예요? is also acceptable.

3What does the receipt header 결제금액 mean?

    Show a sample answer

    payment amount / total paid

결제금액 shows the final amount paid. 주문내역, by contrast, is the list of ordered items. Recognizing both helps you find the total and the item lines.

    Take this with you

At a Korean kiosk, start with 영수증 주세요 for the receipt, ask 영어로 나오게 할 수 있어요? for an English version, and point to a line with 이거 무슨 메뉴예요? when you need a translation. Keep -요 endings and check 결제금액 for the total.
