Korean for Parcel Pickup: Asking Staff to Repeat a Phone Number Slowly
Learn polite Korean requests to have a pickup-counter staff member repeat a recipient's phone number in chunks, using -아/어 주세요 patterns at an intermediate level.

At a busy parcel counter, staff often read the recipient's phone number quickly, and you may catch only part of it. This lesson teaches you how to ask them to slow down and repeat the number in groups, using polite -아/어 주세요 requests. You will practice two core patterns and related questions so you can confirm the digits without holding up the line. The focus is on spoken interaction, not on any specific courier's policy.
By the end, you can…
- ask a staff member to repeat a phone number slowly and clearly.
- request only the last four digits when I have already heard the rest.
- confirm the number by repeating it back in Korean groups.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

Make it make sense
Useful pattern
The pattern '천천히 다시 말해주세요' combines the adverb 천천히 (slowly), 다시 (again), and the polite request ending -아/어 주세요. You can swap the verb to fit the situation: '천천히 다시 불러주세요' (please read it again slowly) or '천천히 다시 말씀해주세요' (a more respectful version). For phone numbers, add '끊어서' to ask for chunking: '번호를 끊어서 말해주세요.' This keeps your request clear and polite without sounding demanding.
When to use it
Use these requests at the pickup counter when staff read the number quickly. If you caught the first part but missed the end, say '뒤 네 자리만 다시요.' If the whole number was unclear, use '천천히 다시 말해주세요.' When you want to confirm, repeat the number in groups and ask '맞아요?' (Is that right?). This is especially helpful in noisy environments where digits like 4 and 7 can be hard to distinguish.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
죄송하지만, 번호를 천천히 다시 말해주세요.
Sorry, but please say the number again slowly.joe-song-ha-ji-man, beon-ho-reul cheon-cheon-hi da-si mal-hae-ju-se-yo네, 010-1234-5678입니다.

It's 5678.o-yuk-chil-pal-im-ni-daA little context goes a long way
In Korea, phone numbers are read in groups: 010 (the mobile prefix) then two groups of four digits. Staff may say each digit individually, so '0' is often '공' (gong) rather than '영' (yeong). Using -아/어 주세요 is polite and appropriate for service interactions; adding 죄송하지만 (sorry, but) softens the request when the counter is busy.
One thing to watch for
Using '다시 말해' without the polite ending, which can sound abrupt.
Try this instead: Add -아/어 주세요 to make it polite: '다시 말해주세요.' For extra politeness, use '다시 말씀해주세요' when speaking to staff.
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

제가 다시 말할게요. 맞는지 봐주세요.
This politely announces that you will repeat the number and asks the staff to check. You can also simply say the number with a rising intonation and ask '맞아요?'
At the pickup counter, use '천천히 다시 말해주세요' for the whole number and '뒤 네 자리만 다시요' for just the last four digits. Always keep the polite -아/어 주세요 ending.
