How to Ask If Parking Is Available in Japanese: Parking Included and Parking Options
Learn elementary Japanese phrases to ask whether parking is available or included, and how to understand common parking options at hotels, apartments and venues.

When you book a hotel, rent an apartment or visit a venue in Japan, parking is often limited, reserved in advance or charged separately. This lesson teaches you how to ask directly whether parking is available, whether it is included in the price, and what kind of parking is offered. You will use the polite question pattern ありますか (arimasu ka), the particle は (wa) to mark the topic, and simple vocabulary such as 駐車場 (chūshajō, parking lot). All phrases are polite and safe for hotels, shops and rental offices.
By the end, you can…
- ask whether parking is available at a hotel, apartment or venue.

駐車場はありますか。
Is there a parking lot?
chūshajō wa arimasu ka
The most general polite question. Use it at hotels, shops, restaurants and rental offices. 駐車場 (chūshajō) means a parking lot or parking area.
駐車場は料金に含まれていますか。
Is parking included in the price?
chūshajō wa ryōkin ni fukumarete imasu ka
Use this when you want to know whether parking costs extra. 料金 (ryōkin) means charge or fee, and 含まれています (fukumarete imasu) means is included.
無料駐車場はありますか。
Is there free parking?
muryō chūshajō wa arimasu ka
無料 (muryō) means free of charge. This asks specifically about free parking, not paid parking.
予約は必要ですか。
Is a reservation necessary?
yoyaku wa hitsuyō desu ka
Many Japanese parking lots require advance booking. 予約 (yoyaku) means reservation and 必要 (hitsuyō) means necessary.
駐車場の場所を教えてください。
Please tell me the location of the parking lot.
chūshajō no basho o oshiete kudasai
Use this after you have confirmed that parking exists. 場所 (basho) means place or location.
Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.
Make it make sense
Useful pattern
The core pattern is [noun] は ありますか ([noun] wa arimasu ka). It means "Is there [noun]?" or "Do you have [noun]?" For example, 駐車場はありますか (chūshajō wa arimasu ka) means "Is there a parking lot?" You can replace 駐車場 with other nouns: 無料駐車場はありますか (muryō chūshajō wa arimasu ka, "Is there free parking?") or 予約は必要ですか (yoyaku wa hitsuyō desu ka, "Is a reservation necessary?"). The particle は (wa) marks the topic, and あります (arimasu) is the polite verb for existence of inanimate things such as parking lots.
When to use it
Use these questions before you arrive or at the front desk. At a hotel, ask 駐車場はありますか (chūshajō wa arimasu ka). If the answer is はい、あります (hai, arimasu, "Yes, we have one"), then ask 駐車場は料金に含まれていますか (chūshajō wa ryōkin ni fukumarete imasu ka) to check whether it is included. If you need a free space, ask 無料駐車場はありますか (muryō chūshajō wa arimasu ka). For apartment viewings, ask 予約は必要ですか (yoyaku wa hitsuyō desu ka) because some lots require advance booking.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
すみません、駐車場はありますか。
Excuse me, is there a parking lot?sumimasen, chūshajō wa arimasu kaはい、あります。無料駐車場もあります。
Yes, there is. There is also free parking.hai, arimasu. muryō chūshajō mo arimasu駐車場は料金に含まれていますか。
Is parking included in the price?chūshajō wa ryōkin ni fukumarete imasu kaいいえ、一泊五百円です。予約は必要ですか。
No, it is 500 yen per night. Is a reservation necessary?iie, ippaku gohyaku en desu. yoyaku wa hitsuyō desu kaA little context goes a long way
In Japan, parking is often limited in cities, and many hotels or apartments offer only a few spaces. It is normal to ask about availability, price and reservation before arriving. The polite question ありますか (arimasu ka) is appropriate in most situations. If you are unsure, add すみません (sumimasen, "excuse me") at the start to sound considerate.
One thing to watch for
Using いますか (imasu ka) for a parking lot, as in 駐車場はいますか (chūshajō wa imasu ka).
Try this instead: Use ありますか (arimasu ka) for inanimate things such as parking lots. いますか (imasu ka) is for people and animals. Correct: 駐車場はありますか (chūshajō wa arimasu ka).
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.
1How do you ask "Is there a parking lot?" in polite Japanese?
Show a sample answer
駐車場はありますか。
This uses the topic marker は (wa) and the polite existence verb あります (arimasu) plus the question particle か (ka). 駐車場はいますか is incorrect because います is for living things.
2How do you ask whether parking is included in the price?

駐車場は料金に含まれていますか。
This uses 料金 (ryōkin, charge) and 含まれています (fukumarete imasu, is included). You could also ask 駐車場は無料ですか (chūshajō wa muryō desu ka, "Is parking free?") if you only need to know about cost.
3What does 予約は必要ですか mean?
Show a sample answer
Is a reservation necessary?
予約 (yoyaku) means reservation and 必要 (hitsuyō) means necessary. This is useful for parking lots that require advance booking. A valid alternative is 予約が必要ですか (yoyaku ga hitsuyō desu ka), which is also correct.
Use 駐車場はありますか (chūshajō wa arimasu ka) to ask if parking exists, then 料金に含まれていますか (ryōkin ni fukumarete imasu ka) to check whether it is included. Keep ありますか for parking lots, not いますか.
