Italian for Study Habits: Talk About How You Study
Learn to describe your study routines in Italian: making flashcards, studying in the morning, and sharing tips. Elementary level.

In this lesson, you will learn to talk about how you study in Italian. You'll use common verbs like 'studiare' (to study) and 'fare' (to do/make), and time expressions like 'di mattina' (in the morning). You'll also learn to give simple study tips. This is different from talking about hobbies because it focuses on academic routines. By the end, you can say when and how you study, and ask others about their habits.
By the end, you can…
- say when I study best, using time expressions like 'di mattina' or 'di sera'.
- describe study methods, such as making flashcards or reviewing notes.
- ask and answer simple questions about study routines.
- give a basic study tip using 'È meglio...' or 'Devi...'.
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

Make it make sense
Useful pattern
To say when you study, use 'di' + time of day: 'di mattina' (in the morning), 'di pomeriggio' (in the afternoon), 'di sera' (in the evening), 'di notte' (at night). To say how you study, use 'faccio' + noun: 'Faccio flashcard', 'Faccio esercizi' (I do exercises). To say you study best, use 'Studio meglio di mattina'. To give advice, use 'È meglio' + infinitive: 'È meglio ripassare ogni giorno' (It's better to review every day).
When to use it
Use these phrases when talking about your study routine with classmates or friends. For example, if someone asks 'Come studi?', you can answer 'Faccio flashcard e ripasso gli appunti'. If you want to suggest a tip, say 'È meglio studiare di mattina se sei più concentrato'. Note: 'di mattina' is standard; in some regions you may hear 'la mattina', which is also correct.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

In Italy, study habits can vary by region and school. University students often study at home or in libraries, and group study is common. 'Flashcard' is understood, but older generations might say 'schede'. When giving advice, 'È meglio' is polite and common. In informal speech, you might hear 'Meglio studiare...' without 'È', but in formal writing, include 'È'.
One thing to watch for
Saying 'Studio nel mattino' to mean 'I study in the morning'.
Try this instead: Use 'di mattina' or 'la mattina'. 'Nel mattino' is not used. Correct: 'Studio di mattina' or 'Studio la mattina'.

È meglio ripassare ogni giorno.
This means 'It's better to review every day.' You can replace 'ripassare' with other verbs like 'studiare' or 'leggere'. The structure 'È meglio + infinitive' is used for advice.
Use 'di mattina/sera' for when you study, 'faccio' for methods, and 'È meglio' for tips. Practice with a friend to make it stick.
