How to Ask Where to Pick Up a Package in German
Learn to ask 'Where can I pick up my package?' in German, understand opening hours, and handle pickup counter conversations with confidence.

When a parcel in Germany goes to a pickup point instead of your door, you need two things fast: the right question and the right vocabulary for hours. This lesson teaches you to ask where you can collect your package, to name the pickup location, and to understand the opening hours you will hear in reply. You will practise polite forms with können and the separable verb abholen, which is the standard verb for collecting something in person.
By the end, you can…
- ask where I can pick up my package in German
- name common pickup locations such as a Paketshop or Packstation
- ask about and understand opening hours
- respond politely when a counter is closed or a parcel is not ready
Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

Useful pattern
The core pattern is Wo kann ich ... abholen? Fill the gap with the object: Wo kann ich mein Paket abholen? Wo kann ich meine Sendung abholen? The verb abholen is separable, so ab- moves to the end of the sentence. In a statement it stays together: Ich hole das Paket morgen ab. With a modal verb such as kann or möchte, the infinitive abholen stays at the end.
When to use it
Use abholen when you collect something yourself. Do not use it for receiving a delivery at home; that is bekommen or geliefert werden. At a Paketshop you might hear Ihr Paket können Sie ab morgen abholen. For hours, ask Bis wann haben Sie geöffnet? or Wann schließen Sie? In Austria and Switzerland, a common alternative for the pickup notice is Abholschein, and opening hours are often posted as Öffnungszeiten.
Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.
Guten Tag, ich möchte ein Paket abholen. Wo kann ich das machen?

In Germany, parcels often go to a Paketshop, a Packstation, or a neighbour rather than being left at your door. Staff usually expect a pickup notice, a code, or an ID. Use Sie with counter staff; du is only for people you know well. Opening hours are often written as Öffnungszeiten, and many small shops close for lunch, so check before you go.
One thing to watch for
Using nehmen or bekommen for collecting a parcel in person: Ich nehme mein Paket.
Try this instead: Use abholen for collecting something yourself: Ich hole mein Paket ab. Remember that ab- goes to the end in a main clause, and with a modal verb the full infinitive abholen stays at the end: Wo kann ich mein Paket abholen?
Your turn
Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

2You want to know the closing time. What do you ask?

Bis wann haben Sie geöffnet?
This asks until when they are open. Wann schließen Sie? is also valid. Use Sie with staff you do not know.
3A staff member says: Ihr Paket können Sie ab morgen abholen. What does that mean?
Show a sample answer
You can pick up your package starting tomorrow.
ab morgen means from tomorrow onwards. The separable verb abholen appears as an infinitive at the end after the modal können.
Ask Wo kann ich mein Paket abholen? and check Bis wann haben Sie geöffnet? Remember that abholen is separable, so ab- goes to the end in a main clause.
