Fixing Wrong Page Order in a Print Job: Practical Chinese for the Print Shop

Learn elementary Mandarin to tell print-shop staff the page order is wrong, ask them to check and rearrange the pages by page number, and confirm the fix politely.

Includes practice questions and sample answers.
A warm illustrated language study space

When a print job comes back with the pages out of order, you need a few clear, polite Chinese sentences to explain the problem and ask for a fix. This lesson gives you the exact phrases for that moment: saying the order is wrong, pointing out that the first page is at the end, asking staff to check the pages, and requesting a rearrangement by page number. The language is simple and direct, so you can use it at a neighborhood print and copy shop without long explanations. You will also practice a short dialogue that moves from problem to solution.

    By the end, you can…

    • say that the page order is wrong and point out that the first page is at the end.
    • ask staff to check the pages and rearrange them by page number.
    • confirm politely that the new order is correct.

    Words you’ll actually use

Listen once. Try it slowly. Then say it without looking.

    Checking available voices…

    顺序错了。

    The order is wrong.

    shùn xù cuò le

A short, clear way to state the problem right after you look at the printed pages.

    第一页在最后。

The first page is at the end.

dì yī yè zài zuì hòu

Use this to point out one specific wrong position; replace 第一页 with 最后一页 to say the last page is at the front.

    请重新排一下。

    Please rearrange it.

qǐng chóng xīn pái yī xià

A polite request for someone to redo the arrangement; 一下 softens the request.

    请按页码排列。

Please arrange them by page number.

qǐng àn yè mǎ pái liè

Use this when you want the pages sorted in numerical order, not by chapter or size.

    请检查一下页码。

    Please check the page numbers.

qǐng jiǎn chá yī xià yè mǎ

A useful request before or after printing, so staff verify the numbers rather than only the count.

Pronunciation guides are approximate. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Make it make sense

    Useful pattern

The pattern 请 + verb + 一下 is a polite, practical way to ask for an action without sounding demanding. 请重新排一下 means 'please rearrange it', and 请检查一下 means 'please check it'. You can put the object after 一下: 请检查一下页码 ('please check the page numbers'). For a clearer instruction, add 按 plus a standard: 请按页码排列 ('please arrange by page number'). These patterns work in many service situations, but here they keep your print job request short and specific.

    When to use it

Use 顺序错了 when you first notice the problem, before explaining details. Then give one concrete example, such as 第一页在最后, so staff can see what you mean. After that, ask for the fix with 请重新排一下 or 请按页码排列. If you are not sure whether the pages are numbered, say 请检查一下页码 first. Keep your tone calm and add 谢谢 at the end. If the shop is busy, these short sentences are easier for staff to act on than a long explanation.

    A conversation you could have

Listen to each line, then take one part and reply out loud.

    A

    你好,这个打印的顺序错了。

Hello, the order of this print job is wrong.nǐ hǎo, zhè ge dǎ yìn de shùn xù cuò le
    B

    好的,哪里错了?

Okay, where is it wrong?hǎo de, nǎ lǐ cuò le
    A

    第一页在最后。请检查一下页码,然后按页码排列。

The first page is at the end. Please check the page numbers, then arrange them by page number.dì yī yè zài zuì hòu. qǐng jiǎn chá yī xià yè mǎ, rán hòu àn yè mǎ pái liè
    B

    明白了,我重新排一下。

Got it, I will rearrange it.míng bai le, wǒ chóng xīn pái yī xià

A little context goes a long way

In mainland China, 请 plus a short verb phrase is a normal polite request in shops and service counters. Adding 一下 makes the request sound lighter and more conversational, not less serious. Staff may answer with 好的 or 明白了, which means they have understood and will act. If you need to be more formal, you can say 麻烦您重新排一下, but for a neighborhood print shop the shorter forms in this lesson are usually enough.

    One thing to watch for

Saying 顺序不对了 as a direct translation of 'the order is not right now'.

Try this instead: Use 顺序错了 for a completed print job that came out wrong. 不对 can describe a general mismatch, but 错了 is the natural choice here: 这个顺序错了,第一页在最后。

    Your turn

Try answering out loud before checking a possible answer.

1How do you tell the staff that the first page is at the end?

    Show a sample answer

    第一页在最后。

This sentence names the page and its wrong position. You can also say 第一页跑到最后了, which adds a sense of 'ended up' at the end, but the shorter form is clear and standard.

2What do you say to ask staff to arrange the pages by page number?

    Show a sample answer

    请按页码排列。

按页码 means 'according to page number', and 排列 means 'arrange'. 请 makes it polite. You could also say 请按顺序排一下, but that is less specific about using the numbers.

3What should you ask staff to do if you are not sure the page numbers are correct?

    Show a sample answer

    请检查一下页码。

检查 means 'check' or 'inspect', and 页码 means 'page numbers'. Adding 一下 keeps the request friendly. 请看一下页码 is also acceptable, but 检查 suggests a more careful look.

    Take this with you

For a wrong print order, say 顺序错了, give one example like 第一页在最后, then ask 请检查一下页码 and 请按页码排列. Keep it short, polite, and specific.
