In this workshop you practice a short service conversation about tracking a package. You will ask whether tracking is possible, ask for the tracking number, respond when you do not have it, and confirm the number when it is given. Each native line is explained in English before you use it, so you can speak with clear meaning rather than guessing.
Asking about tracking
Start with a simple question to find out whether tracking is possible. The line «¿Puedo rastrear este paquete?» means "Can I track this package?" Use it when you are the customer and you want to know if tracking is available for the package in front of you. If you want to ask where tracking happens, the line «¿Dónde puedo rastrear mi paquete?» means "Where can I track my package?" This is still a customer question, but it asks for the place or method, not for permission. Keep your voice calm and let the question rise slightly at the end. Practise both lines slowly, then at a natural speed.
Requesting and giving the number
A tracking number is often needed before anyone can check a package. The line «¿Cuál es el número de rastreo?» means "What is the tracking number?" This is a direct request for information. If you need to ask more politely or with a clear request, the line «Necesito el número de guía, por favor.» means "I need the tracking number, please." When someone gives you the number, you can confirm it by repeating it back. In the recorded exchange, the staff member says «Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.», which means "Sure, here it is. Your number is 123456789." Notice that the reply gives both the number and a short reassurance before it. As the customer, you can then repeat the number to check it.
A full service exchange
Now put the lines together in a short conversation. The customer begins with «Buenos días, envié un paquete ayer. ¿Puedo rastrearlo?», which means "Good morning, I sent a package yesterday. Can I track it?" The staff member answers with «Sí, claro. ¿Tiene el número de rastreo?», which means "Yes, of course. Do you have the tracking number?" The customer replies with «No, no lo tengo. ¿Me lo puede dar?», which means "No, I don't have it. Can you give it to me?" The staff member then gives the number with «Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.». This order matters: the customer asks first, the staff member answers and asks for the number, the customer says they do not have it and asks for it, and the staff member provides it. When you swap roles, you change who reads each part, but the order of the conversation stays the same.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.
Buenos días, envié un paquete ayer. ¿Puedo rastrearlo?
Good morning, I sent a package yesterday. Can I track it?Sí, claro. ¿Tiene el número de rastreo?
Yes, of course. Do you have the tracking number? No, no lo tengo. ¿Me lo puede dar?
No, I don't have it. Can you give it to me?Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.
Sure, here it is. Your number is 123456789.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided customer and staff exchange
Work with a partner or use audio. One person is the customer and one is the staff member. Read the lines in order. Do not skip or reorder them.
Your task: Customer: say «Buenos días, envié un paquete ayer. ¿Puedo rastrearlo?». Staff: say «Sí, claro. ¿Tiene el número de rastreo?». Customer: say «No, no lo tengo. ¿Me lo puede dar?». Staff: say «Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.». Then swap roles and repeat the same order.
Choose the right reply
Read the customer line and choose the best staff reply from the two options. Then say both lines aloud.
Your task: Customer says «¿Cuál es el número de rastreo?». Staff option A: «Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.». Staff option B: «Sí, claro. ¿Tiene el número de rastreo?». Which reply gives the tracking number? Say the correct reply aloud, then say the customer line again.
Recall the exchange with correct roles
Cover the lines. One person is the customer and one is the staff member. Recall the four lines in the correct order from memory.
Your task: Customer begins with a morning greeting and asks about tracking a package sent yesterday. Staff answers yes and asks for the tracking number. Customer says they do not have it and asks for it. Staff gives the number. Use the recorded lines «Buenos días, envié un paquete ayer. ¿Puedo rastrearlo?», «Sí, claro. ¿Tiene el número de rastreo?», «No, no lo tengo. ¿Me lo puede dar?», and «Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.» in that order.
Common questions
Can I practise alone if I do not have a partner?
Yes. Play the recorded lines and speak the other role aloud. For example, play «Sí, claro. ¿Tiene el número de rastreo?» and answer as the customer with «No, no lo tengo. ¿Me lo puede dar?». You can also read both roles yourself, but keep the order: question, reply, follow-up, and answer. There is no automatic assessment, so check your own speech against the recorded lines.
What should I say if I do not have the tracking number?
Use «No, no lo tengo. ¿Me lo puede dar?», which means "No, I don't have it. Can you give it to me?" This line both answers the staff member's question and asks for the number. After the staff member gives the number with «Claro, aquí está. Su número es 123456789.», repeat the number back to confirm it.
