In this workshop you will practice talking about your daily routine in Spanish. You will learn to say what time you wake up, what you do next, and how to ask someone else about their morning. All native examples come from short recordings. Listen carefully, repeat aloud, and use the exercises to build confidence. You can play both roles in a conversation, but there is no automatic assessment, so check your own answers using the success criteria.

    Talking About Your Wake-Up Time

To say what time you wake up, use a reflexive verb. The recording «Me despierto a las siete.» means 'I wake up at seven.' Notice the structure: 'me despierto' means 'I wake up', and 'a las siete' means 'at seven.' The word 'a las' is used before a clock time. To ask someone else, use the question in «¿A qué hora te despiertas?», which means 'What time do you wake up?' The verb changes from 'me despierto' to 'te despiertas' because you are now talking to another person. Practice saying both the question and the answer aloud. Pay attention to the pronunciation: the stressed syllable in 'despierto' is 'pier' as shown in 'des-PYER-toh'. Repeat after the recording until it feels natural.

    What You Do Next

After waking up, you can describe the next actions. The recording «Luego me levanto.» means 'Then I get up.' The word 'luego' means 'then' or 'next', and 'me levanto' means 'I get up.' To ask what someone does next, use the question in «¿Y luego qué haces?», which means 'And then what do you do?' The verb 'haces' means 'you do.' When you answer, you can combine actions. The recording «Desayuno y me visto.» means 'I have breakfast and get dressed.' Here 'desayuno' means 'I have breakfast' and 'me visto' means 'I get dressed.' Finally, the recording «Voy al trabajo a las ocho.» means 'I go to work at eight.' Notice 'voy al trabajo' means 'I go to work' and 'a las ocho' means 'at eight.' Practice linking these actions in order: wake up, get up, have breakfast, get dressed, go to work.

Putting It Together in a Conversation

Now you can combine questions and answers. The recording «Me despierto a las siete.» is the answer to the question in «¿A qué hora te despiertas?»: it means 'I wake up at seven.' The recording «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.» is a longer answer that means 'I have breakfast and go to work at eight.' Notice that in «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.» the speaker does not mention getting up or getting dressed, but you can add those actions if you want. When you practice, imagine a friendly conversation. One person asks the questions from «¿A qué hora te despiertas?» and «¿Y luego qué haces?», and the other answers with «Me despierto a las siete.» and «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.» or with your own true routine. You can swap roles. Remember that 'me despierto' is only for 'I', and 'te despiertas' is for 'you' when asking a question. Listen to the recordings again and repeat each line until you can say them without looking.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Checking available voices…

    Luego me levanto.

    Then I get up.

    LWEH-goh meh leh-VAN-toh

    Desayuno y me visto.

Voy al trabajo a las ocho.

I go to work at eight.

boy al trah-BAH-hoh ah las OH-choh

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    A

    ¿A qué hora te despiertas?

What time do you wake up?
    B

    Me despierto a las siete.

    I wake up at seven.
    A

    ¿Y luego qué haces?

And then what do you do?
    B

Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.

I have breakfast and go to work at eight.
Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

Guided Exchange: Ask and Answer About Morning Routine

You will play both roles in a short conversation. First, listen to the question in «¿A qué hora te despiertas?» and the answer in «Me despierto a las siete.». Then listen to the follow-up question in «¿Y luego qué haces?» and the answer in «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.». Practice saying each line aloud.

Your task: Imagine you are speaking with a friend. Say the question from «¿A qué hora te despiertas?» aloud, then answer with «Me despierto a las siete.». Then say the question from «¿Y luego qué haces?» aloud, and answer with «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.». Repeat the whole exchange three times, trying to sound natural. You can also replace the times and actions with your own routine, but keep the same structure.

    2

Reply Comprehension: Choose the Correct Response

You will hear a question and choose the best answer from two options. The question is «¿A qué hora te despiertas?», which means 'What time do you wake up?' The two possible answers are «Me despierto a las siete.» and «Luego me levanto.». «Me despierto a las siete.» means 'I wake up at seven.' «Luego me levanto.» means 'Then I get up.'

Your task: Listen to the question «¿A qué hora te despiertas?» again. Which answer fits: «Me despierto a las siete.» or «Luego me levanto.»? Say your choice aloud. Then listen to the follow-up question «¿Y luego qué haces?», which means 'And then what do you do?' Which answer fits: «Luego me levanto.» or «Me despierto a las siete.»? Say your choice aloud. Finally, check your answers: for «¿A qué hora te despiertas?», the correct answer is «Me despierto a las siete.»; for «¿Y luego qué haces?», the correct answer is «Luego me levanto.».

    3

Recall with Correct Roles: Who Says What?

In the recordings, one speaker asks questions and the other answers. The questions are «¿A qué hora te despiertas?» and «¿Y luego qué haces?». The answers are «Me despierto a las siete.» and «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.». You will now recall the conversation and say who says each line.

Your task: Without looking at the text, say the conversation from memory. Start with the question from «¿A qué hora te despiertas?», then the answer from «Me despierto a las siete.», then the question from «¿Y luego qué haces?», then the answer from «Desayuno y voy al trabajo a las ocho.». As you say each line, say whether it is spoken by the questioner or the answerer. For example, when you say «¿A qué hora te despiertas?», say 'Questioner.' When you say «Me despierto a las siete.», say 'Answerer.' Do this for all four lines.

    Common questions

What is the difference between 'me despierto' and 'me levanto'?

'Me despierto' means 'I wake up' and refers to the moment you open your eyes. 'Me levanto' means 'I get up' and refers to the action of getting out of bed. In the recordings, «Me despierto a las siete.» uses 'me despierto' and «Luego me levanto.» uses 'me levanto.' You can use both in order: first you wake up, then you get up.

How do I ask someone else about their routine?

To ask someone else, you change the verb form. The question in «¿A qué hora te despiertas?» means 'What time do you wake up?' Notice that 'me despierto' becomes 'te despiertas.' The question in «¿Y luego qué haces?» means 'And then what do you do?' Here 'haces' means 'you do.' When you answer, you use 'me despierto' for yourself. Practice the question and answer together to hear the difference.
