In this workshop you will practice a short, realistic visit to a post office in Spanish. You will learn how to start the conversation, ask about the price, ask for stamps, and ask where the post office is. You will hear native examples and then use them in guided speaking tasks. You can play both roles: customer and staff. There is no automatic scoring, so use the answer keys to check yourself. Speak out loud, repeat each line several times, and focus on clear, polite delivery.
Starting the exchange and asking the price
Begin politely. A simple greeting helps you get attention and sound friendly. Then say what you want to do. In the recordings, the customer says «Quisiera enviar esta carta.». This means the speaker wants to send a letter. Next, the customer asks about the price with «¿Cuánto cuesta el envío?». This means the speaker wants to know how much the postage costs. In a longer version of the same scene, the customer greets the staff member and says «Buenos días. Quisiera enviar esta carta.». This means the speaker says good morning and then says they would like to send a letter. The staff member replies with «Claro. ¿A dónde la va a enviar?». This means the staff member says of course and asks where the speaker is sending it. The customer answers with «A Estados Unidos. ¿Cuánto cuesta el envío?». This means the speaker says the letter is going to the United States and then asks how much the postage is. Practice these lines slowly. Keep your tone calm and polite. When you ask a question, let your voice rise slightly at the end.
Asking for stamps and asking where the post office is
After you know the price, you may need stamps. The customer asks «¿Me puede dar estampillas?». This means the speaker asks if the other person can give them stamps. In the longer scene, the staff member asks a question with «Son cincuenta pesos. ¿Necesita estampillas?». This means the staff member says the price is fifty pesos and then asks if the customer needs stamps. Notice that the staff member offers help, and the customer can accept or ask directly. If you do not know where the post office is, you can ask «¿Dónde está el correo?». This means the speaker asks where the post office is. This is a separate question you can use when you are still looking for the place. Practice the difference between asking for stamps and asking for the location. Both are useful, but they happen at different moments.
Roles, timing, and polite delivery
In this exchange there are two roles: customer and staff. The customer starts with a greeting and a request, then asks about the price. The staff member responds, gives the price, and may ask if the customer needs stamps. When you practice, decide who you are before you speak. If you are the customer, use «Buenos días. Quisiera enviar esta carta.», then «A Estados Unidos. ¿Cuánto cuesta el envío?», and then «¿Me puede dar estampillas?» if you need stamps. If you are the staff member, use «Claro. ¿A dónde la va a enviar?» and «Son cincuenta pesos. ¿Necesita estampillas?». Keep your answers short and clear. Speak at a natural speed, but do not rush. Pause after each line so you can hear your own pronunciation. If you make a mistake, repeat the line from the beginning. This helps you build fluency and confidence.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

It's fifty pesos. Do you need stamps?Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: customer at the post office
Imagine you are at a post office in a Spanish-speaking town. You have a letter in your hand and you want to send it. You will speak as the customer. Use the recorded lines to guide you.
Your task: Say the customer's first line to greet the staff member and say you want to send a letter. Then say the line that asks how much the postage is. Finally, ask for stamps. Speak each line out loud. If you need help, listen to the recordings again before you speak.
Reply comprehension: choose the correct response
You will hear or read a staff member's line. Then you will choose the best customer reply from the recorded options. This task checks if you understand the staff member's question.
Your task: The staff member says the line that means 'Of course. Where are you sending it to?' Which customer reply fits best: the line that says 'To the United States. How much is the postage?' or the line that asks 'Where is the post office?' Choose one and say it out loud. Then the staff member says the line that means 'It's fifty pesos. Do you need stamps?' Which customer reply fits best: the line that asks for stamps, or the line that asks where the post office is? Choose one and say it out loud.
Recall and role switch: customer and staff
Now you will practice both roles. First, you will be the customer. Then you will be the staff member. Use the recorded lines to help you remember the correct words.
Your task: As the customer, say the line that greets the staff member and says you want to send a letter. Then say the line that says where the letter is going and asks the postage price. As the staff member, say the line that says 'Of course. Where are you sending it to?' Then say the line that gives the price and asks if the customer needs stamps. Speak each line without looking at the text if you can.
Common questions
Can I use these lines if I am the staff member instead of the customer?
Yes. The recordings include both customer and staff lines. The customer lines help you send a letter, and the staff lines help you respond to a customer. Practice both roles so you can understand and reply in either situation. When you speak as the staff member, use the lines that ask where the letter is going and that give the price and ask about stamps.
What should I do if I do not know the price or the location?
You can ask. The recordings include a line that asks how much the postage is and a separate line that asks where the post office is. Use the price question when you are already at the counter and want to know the cost. Use the location question when you are still looking for the post office. Both are polite and useful in different moments.
