In this workshop you will practice friendly Spanish ways to say goodbye and to announce that you are leaving a gathering. You will hear short, natural lines and use them in simple guided exchanges. The focus is on understanding and repeating whole phrases, not on building new sentences from scratch. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so check your answers with the self-checks provided.

    Everyday Goodbyes

Start with short, common goodbyes. «Nos vemos.» is a very casual way to say goodbye to friends, classmates, or coworkers you know well. It literally means 'we see each other.' «Ahí nos vemos.» is relaxed and common in Mexico and Central America. Use it when you are not sure exactly when you will meet again. «Te veo pronto.» is used with one person you address as tú, and it suggests you expect to meet again soon. Listen to each line, repeat it aloud, and notice the rhythm. These are complete phrases, so you can use them as they are.

    Announcing That You Are Leaving

When you want to politely announce that you are leaving, use «Me voy, pero nos vemos pronto.». It keeps a friendly tone and also suggests meeting again. In a short conversation, one person might say «Bueno, ya me voy. Nos vemos pronto.». The other person can respond with «¡Claro! ¿Nos vemos el fin de semana?», which asks about meeting on the weekend. The first person can then answer with «Sí, te veo el sábado. ¡Cuídate!», which agrees and says 'Take care!' Finally, the other person can close with «¡Nos vemos! Que te vaya bien.», which means 'See you! Take care.' Notice how each line is a complete, useful phrase. Practice them slowly, then at a natural speed.

    Choosing the Right Goodbye

Different goodbyes fit different situations. Use «Nos vemos.» with people you know well. Use «Ahí nos vemos.» when you are not sure when you will meet again. Use «Te veo pronto.» with one person you address as tú when you expect to meet soon. If you are leaving a gathering and want to be polite, use «Me voy, pero nos vemos pronto.». In the longer exchange, «Bueno, ya me voy. Nos vemos pronto.» announces that you are heading out, «¡Claro! ¿Nos vemos el fin de semana?» suggests meeting on the weekend, «Sí, te veo el sábado. ¡Cuídate!» agrees and says 'Take care,' and «¡Nos vemos! Que te vaya bien.» closes the conversation warmly. Listen for the role of each speaker: one is leaving, the other is responding.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    A

Bueno, ya me voy. Nos vemos pronto.

Well, I'm heading out. See you soon.
    B

¡Claro! ¿Nos vemos el fin de semana?

Of course! See you this weekend?
    A

Sí, te veo el sábado. ¡Cuídate!

Yes, I'll see you Saturday. Take care!
    B

¡Nos vemos! Que te vaya bien.

See you! Take care. / Hope it goes well.
Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided Exchange: Leaving and Responding

Imagine you are at a casual gathering with a friend. You want to announce that you are leaving and suggest meeting again. Your friend will respond and ask about the weekend.

Your task: Play the role of Speaker A. Say «Bueno, ya me voy. Nos vemos pronto.» aloud. Then imagine your friend replies with «¡Claro! ¿Nos vemos el fin de semana?». Answer with «Sí, te veo el sábado. ¡Cuídate!». Finally, imagine your friend says «¡Nos vemos! Que te vaya bien.». Repeat the whole exchange twice, then switch roles and play Speaker B.

    2

Reply Comprehension: Choose the Best Response

You will hear a line and choose a suitable reply from the options. This checks whether you understand the situation and the role of each speaker.

Your task: Read the situation and choose the best reply. Situation 1: A friend says «Bueno, ya me voy. Nos vemos pronto.» to you. Should you reply with «¡Claro! ¿Nos vemos el fin de semana?» or with «Nos vemos.»? Situation 2: A friend says «¡Claro! ¿Nos vemos el fin de semana?» and asks about the weekend. Should you reply with «Sí, te veo el sábado. ¡Cuídate!» or with «Me voy, pero nos vemos pronto.»? Situation 3: A friend says «¡Nos vemos! Que te vaya bien.» to close the conversation. Should you reply with «Nos vemos.» or with «Bueno, ya me voy. Nos vemos pronto.»?

    3

    Recall and Role Swap

Now practice from memory. Imagine the same gathering, but this time you start as Speaker B. Your friend, Speaker A, will leave and suggest meeting again.

Your task: Without looking at the lines, say the reply that asks about the weekend. Then say the line that agrees and says 'Take care.' Then say the closing line that means 'See you! Take care.' After that, switch back to Speaker A and say the line that announces you are leaving and suggests meeting again.

    Common questions

Can I use these goodbyes with anyone?

These lines are friendly and casual. «Nos vemos.» works with friends, classmates, and coworkers you know well. «Ahí nos vemos.» is relaxed and common in Mexico and Central America. «Te veo pronto.» is used with one person you address as tú. «Me voy, pero nos vemos pronto.» is a polite way to announce that you are leaving. Choose the line that fits how well you know the person and the situation.

What if I am not sure when I will see the person again?

Use «Ahí nos vemos.», which is relaxed and works when you are not sure exactly when you will meet again. If you expect to meet soon, «Te veo pronto.» is a good choice with one person you address as tú. If you are leaving a gathering and want to be polite, «Me voy, pero nos vemos pronto.» announces that you are leaving and still suggests meeting again.
