Receiving criticism can feel uncomfortable, but responding politely and constructively helps you grow. In this workshop, you will practice key Spanish phrases to acknowledge feedback, ask for clarification, and request advice. You will hear recorded Spanish examples and then try using the phrases yourself. The focus is on speaking and understanding, not on perfect grammar. By the end, you should feel more confident responding to feedback in Spanish.
Accepting Criticism Politely
When someone gives you criticism, start by thanking them and showing you are willing to improve. A simple and effective response is «Gracias, voy a trabajar en eso.». This means 'Thanks, I'll work on that.' It shows you accept the feedback and plan to act on it. Another useful phrase is «Entiendo, lo tomaré en cuenta.», which means 'I understand, I'll take it into account.' This acknowledges the criticism without promising immediate change. Both phrases are polite and appropriate in most situations. Practice saying them aloud, paying attention to the pronunciation notes. Remember that 'voy a' is a common way to talk about the near future in Latin American Spanish.
Asking for Examples and Suggestions
To better understand the criticism, you can ask for a specific example. Use «¿Puedes darme un ejemplo?», which means 'Can you give me an example?' This invites the other person to clarify what they meant. If you want advice on how to improve, ask «¿Qué puedo hacer para mejorar?», meaning 'What can I do to improve?' This shows you are proactive and willing to make changes. The recorded puedes question addresses one person as tú; use it when that is your agreed form of address. Politeness and tú/usted address are related but are not the same thing. Practice asking these questions with different intonations to sound natural.
Putting It Together in a Conversation
In a real conversation, you might combine these phrases. For example, someone might say «Oye, tu presentación de ayer estuvo un poco desorganizada.», which means 'Hey, your presentation yesterday was a bit disorganized.' You could respond with «Gracias por decírmelo. Voy a trabajar en eso. ¿Puedes darme un ejemplo?», which means 'Thanks for telling me. I'll work on that. Can you give me an example?' Then the other person might explain «Claro. Las diapositivas tenían mucha información y no quedó claro el mensaje principal.», meaning 'Sure. The slides had too much information and the main message wasn't clear.' You could then ask «Entiendo. ¿Qué puedo hacer para mejorar la próxima vez?», 'I understand. What can I do to improve next time?' This flow shows how to accept feedback, ask for details, and seek advice. Practice both roles to become comfortable with the exchange.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Guided Exchange: Respond to Feedback
Imagine a friend tells you that your presentation was disorganized. You want to respond politely and ask for an example.
Your task: Listen to the recording «Oye, tu presentación de ayer estuvo un poco desorganizada.» and then respond using the phrase from «Gracias, voy a trabajar en eso.» followed by the question from «¿Puedes darme un ejemplo?». Say your response aloud.
Reply Comprehension: Choose the Best Response
You hear someone give you feedback: «Claro. Las diapositivas tenían mucha información y no quedó claro el mensaje principal.». You want to show you understand and ask for advice on how to improve.
Your task: Which phrase from the recordings would you use to ask for suggestions? Say it aloud. Then, check your answer by listening to «¿Qué puedo hacer para mejorar?» and «Entiendo. ¿Qué puedo hacer para mejorar la próxima vez?».
Recall and Role-Play: Full Conversation
A gives feedback about a presentation. B receives the feedback, asks for an example and then asks about improvement.
Your task: Rehearse the four recorded turns in order. A: «Oye, tu presentación de ayer estuvo un poco desorganizada.». B: «Gracias por decírmelo. Voy a trabajar en eso. ¿Puedes darme un ejemplo?». A: «Claro. Las diapositivas tenían mucha información y no quedó claro el mensaje principal.». B: «Entiendo. ¿Qué puedo hacer para mejorar la próxima vez?». The recording ends with B’s question; no answer giving improvement advice is supplied.
Common questions
What if I make a mistake when speaking?
Making mistakes is a normal part of learning. The important thing is to keep practicing. If you forget a phrase, you can always ask the other person to repeat or speak more slowly. In this workshop, focus on communicating your willingness to improve.
Can I use these phrases in a formal situation, like with my boss?
The recordings use tú address in «¿Puedes darme un ejemplo?». Practice that line for a person you address as tú. For a relationship using usted you need the corresponding usted form; the standalone recorded «¿Qué puedo hacer para mejorar?» does not specify the other person’s form of address.
