In this workshop you will practice a short, polite invitation exchange in Spanish. You will learn how to invite someone to a meal, ask whether a day and time works, and respond when someone invites you. The recordings give you clear models to listen to and repeat. You will use them in three tasks: a guided exchange, a reply comprehension task, and a recall task where you switch roles. Listen to each recording before you speak, and repeat it aloud so the rhythm and polite tone become familiar.

    Making a Polite Invitation

A polite invitation often starts with a question about coming to a meal. «¿Te gustaría venir a cenar a mi casa?» means "Would you like to come for dinner at my house?" The phrase is warm and direct, and it names the meal and the place. A shorter version is «¿Quieres venir a cenar?», which means "Do you want to come for dinner?" This one leaves out the place, so it works when the location is already known. You can also invite someone for lunch instead of dinner. «¿Te gustaría venir a comer a mi apartamento?» means "Would you like to come for lunch at my apartment?" Notice that the meal and the place can change while the polite question pattern stays the same. When you practice, say the whole line aloud and keep your tone friendly and rising at the end.

Asking About the Day and Time

After the first invitation, you often need to check whether a specific day and time works. «¿Te queda bien el sábado a las siete?» means "Does Saturday at seven work for you?" This is a simple way to suggest a day and a time together. In a fuller invitation, the day can be included from the start. «¿Te gustaría venir a cenar a mi casa el sábado?» means "Would you like to come for dinner at my house on Saturday?" Here the invitation names the meal, the place, and the day. If the other person asks for the time, you can answer with «¿Te queda bien a las siete?», which means "Does seven work for you?" This keeps the focus on the time only. Listen for the day and the number in each recording, and repeat the line with a calm, polite voice.

    Accepting and Confirming Plans

When you accept an invitation, a warm reply keeps the exchange friendly. «Sí, me encantaría. ¿A qué hora?» means "Yes, I would love to. At what time?" This reply accepts first and then asks for the time. After the time is confirmed, you can close the exchange clearly. «Perfecto, nos vemos el sábado a las siete.» means "Perfect, see you Saturday at seven." This line repeats the day and time so both people know the plan. In a real exchange, the order matters: the invitation comes first, then the reply, then the time question, then the final confirmation. Practice saying «Sí, me encantaría. ¿A qué hora?» and «Perfecto, nos vemos el sábado a las siete.» with a relaxed, happy tone, and make sure the day and time are clear when you repeat them.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided Invitation Exchange

You are inviting a friend to dinner at your house. You will read the host part aloud, then listen to the guest reply. Use the recordings as your model.

Your task: Read «¿Te gustaría venir a cenar a mi casa el sábado?» aloud as the host. Then listen to «Sí, me encantaría. ¿A qué hora?» as the guest reply. Next, read «¿Te queda bien a las siete?» aloud as the host. Finally, listen to «Perfecto, nos vemos el sábado a las siete.» as the guest confirmation. Repeat the whole exchange once more, keeping the same order.

    2

    Choose the Right Reply

You will hear or read an invitation or a time question. Choose the best reply from the options. All options come from the recordings.

Your task: For each prompt, choose the matching reply. Prompt 1: «¿Te gustaría venir a cenar a mi casa el sábado?». Options: «Sí, me encantaría. ¿A qué hora?» or «Perfecto, nos vemos el sábado a las siete.». Prompt 2: «¿Te queda bien a las siete?». Options: «Sí, me encantaría. ¿A qué hora?» or «Perfecto, nos vemos el sábado a las siete.». Prompt 3: «¿Te gustaría venir a cenar a mi casa?». Options: «Sí, me encantaría. ¿A qué hora?» or «Perfecto, nos vemos el sábado a las siete.». Say your chosen line aloud.

    3

    Recall and Role Swap

You will recall the full exchange without looking at the lines first. Then you will switch roles and keep the same order.

Your task: From memory, say the host invitation for dinner at your house on Saturday. Then say the guest reply that accepts and asks for the time. Next, say the host time question. Finally, say the guest confirmation. After that, switch roles and repeat the same four steps in the same order.

    Common questions

Can I practice these lines if I am alone?

Yes. You can play each recording and repeat it aloud. For the guided exchange, read the host lines yourself and listen to the guest lines. Then switch roles and read the guest lines while listening to the host lines. Use the success criteria and the answer key to check yourself.

What should I focus on when I repeat the recordings?

Focus on a friendly, polite tone and on clear day and time words. Listen for the meal, the place, and the number in each line. Repeat the whole line without adding new words. When you check your answers, make sure you used the reply that matches the prompt and kept the exchange in the correct order.
