Giving feedback in Spanish can feel risky if you worry about sounding harsh. This workshop helps you practice a softer style. You will hear short, natural lines that use tal vez, quizás, and podrías to make suggestions feel optional and respectful. You will also hear a short exchange between two people discussing a draft. The goal is not to memorize a script, but to notice how these phrases work in real conversation. You will listen, choose appropriate replies, and then recall the lines with the correct roles. Use the individual phrase and dialogue audio buttons as models, then speak each role yourself; the answer checks guide your practice.
Soft suggestion phrases
The first four recordings give you short, useful lines for suggesting a change. In «Tal vez podrías agregar más detalles.», the speaker says something like 'Maybe you could add more details.' The phrase tal vez means 'maybe,' and podrías is a gentle 'you could.' Together they make the suggestion feel optional. In «Quizás podrías poner más ejemplos.», quizás works the same way as tal vez, and the line suggests adding more examples. In «¿Y si añades un poco más de información?», the speaker asks a friendly question: 'What if you add a little more information?' This form invites the other person to imagine the change. In «Podrías explicarlo con más calma.», the speaker says 'You could explain it more calmly.' Here podrías softens feedback about something already done, like a draft or a presentation. Notice that all four lines avoid direct commands. They leave room for the other person to decide.
A short feedback exchange
Recordings five through eight show a short conversation. In «Oye, ya leí tu borrador. Me gusta mucho la introducción.», speaker A says they already read the draft and really like the introduction. This opens with something positive. In «¡Gracias! ¿Crees que le falta algo?», speaker B thanks them and asks if they think something is missing. In «Tal vez podrías agregar más detalles en la parte del final.», speaker A gives a specific suggestion: 'Maybe you could add more details in the final part.' This uses tal vez podrías, just like the earlier examples, but now it points to a specific section. In «Tienes razón, se podía explicar mejor esa idea. La voy a revisar.», speaker B agrees, says that idea could be explained better, and promises to revise it. The exchange shows a simple pattern: start with something you like, ask if something is missing, offer a soft suggestion, and respond positively. You can use this pattern in many situations, such as reviewing a classmate's writing or giving feedback on a project.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: offer a soft suggestion
Imagine a friend has shared a short piece of writing with you. You want to suggest adding more details without sounding demanding. You will play the role of the person giving feedback.
Your task: First choose and repeat one short suggestion: «Tal vez podrías agregar más detalles.» or «Quizás podrías poner más ejemplos.». Then practice the complete, more specific model from dialogue line 3: «Tal vez podrías agregar más detalles en la parte del final.». These are two separate steps, each with its own recorded model.
Reply comprehension: choose the kind response
Listen for what the writer agrees to do after receiving feedback.
Your task: Listen to «Tienes razón, se podía explicar mejor esa idea. La voy a revisar.». Does the writer (a) agree that the idea could be explained better and plan to revise it, or (b) refuse to change the draft? Say your choice, then repeat the complete reply.
Recall with correct roles: who says what?
In the short exchange, one person gives feedback and the other receives it. You will now recall the lines and match them to the correct role.
Your task: Listen to «Oye, ya leí tu borrador. Me gusta mucho la introducción.», «¡Gracias! ¿Crees que le falta algo?», «Tal vez podrías agregar más detalles en la parte del final.», and «Tienes razón, se podía explicar mejor esa idea. La voy a revisar.» in order. Then close your eyes and try to remember who said each line: the person giving feedback or the person receiving it. Say the lines aloud with the correct role. After you try, check the answer below.
Common questions
What is the difference between tal vez and quizás?
Both tal vez and quizás mean 'maybe' and work in very similar ways. In the recordings, «Tal vez podrías agregar más detalles.» uses tal vez and «Quizás podrías poner más ejemplos.» uses quizás. You can use either one to soften a suggestion. The source describes quizás as a close synonym of tal vez that works the same way, so choose the one that feels more natural to you.
Why use podrías instead of podías?
Podrías is the conditional form used in these suggestions, like “you could.” Podías is an imperfect form whose meaning depends on context; it is not automatically unkind. Practice «Podrías explicarlo con más calma.» as the recorded suggestion. In the final dialogue line, se podía describes how the earlier idea could be explained better.
