In this workshop you practice a short, realistic visit to a phone shop. You will ask for a SIM card with data, ask what a plan includes and what it costs, and answer the clerk's questions about your phone and your document. The native examples come from the recordings, and each one is explained in English before you try it. You can play both roles out loud: first the customer, then the clerk. There is no automatic scoring, so use the answer keys and self-checks to judge your own speaking.
Asking for a SIM card with data
Start with your main request. The line «Necesito una tarjeta SIM con datos.» means "I need a SIM card with data." The key word is "datos," which means mobile data, not just any data. In some places people say "chip" instead of "tarjeta SIM," and both are understood. When you say this line, keep your voice calm and clear, and stress the word "datos" so the clerk knows you want internet access, not only calls. A longer, polite version appears in the shop dialogue: «Buenos días. Necesito una tarjeta SIM con datos para mi teléfono.» means "Good morning. I need a SIM card with data for my phone." Notice that the greeting comes first, then the request, then the reason: "para mi teléfono," meaning "for my phone." Practice both lines until you can say them without reading. Then imagine you are at the counter and say your request out loud.
Asking about data, price, and renewal
After your request, the clerk may ask a question and offer options. In the dialogue, «Claro. ¿Su teléfono está liberado? Tenemos planes de siete y de treinta días.» means "Of course. Is your phone unlocked? We have seven-day and thirty-day plans." The important word here is "liberado," which means the phone is not locked to one company. You can answer with a short "Sí, está liberado," meaning "Yes, it is unlocked." To compare plans, use «¿Cuántos datos incluye el plan?», which means "How much data does the plan include?" The answer is usually in gigabytes, for example "diez gigas," meaning ten gigabytes. To ask about price, use «¿Cuánto cuesta el plan de siete días?», which means "How much does the seven-day plan cost?" You can change the number of days to match the plan you want. Before you pay, ask «¿Necesito recargar o se renueva solo?», which means "Do I need to top up, or does it renew by itself?" This tells you whether the plan continues automatically or whether you must add money later. In the dialogue, the clerk explains the thirty-day plan in «Incluye diez gigas. Cuesta veinte mil pesos y necesita su documento para activarla.», which means "It includes ten gigabytes. It costs twenty thousand pesos, and you need your ID to activate it." Listen for the amount of data, the price, and the word "documento," meaning an identity document.
Answering the clerk and confirming the plan
A real conversation goes both ways. The clerk asks about your phone, and you answer. In the dialogue, the customer answers and then asks a follow-up question in «Sí, está liberado. ¿Cuántos datos incluye el plan de treinta días?», which means "Yes, it is unlocked. How much data does the thirty-day plan include?" This is a useful pattern: short answer first, then your question. When the clerk gives the details, you can repeat the key numbers to confirm them. For example, after hearing the price and data amount, you can say the plan name and the number back to the clerk. You do not need new vocabulary for this; use the same words you heard. If you did not understand, you can ask the clerk to repeat, but in this workshop focus on the lines you have practiced. Remember that "liberado" describes the phone, while "documento" is what the clerk needs to activate the SIM card. Practice switching roles: say the clerk's question from «Claro. ¿Su teléfono está liberado? Tenemos planes de siete y de treinta días.», then answer it as the customer.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Buenos días. Necesito una tarjeta SIM con datos para mi teléfono.
Good morning. I need a SIM card with data for my phone.Claro. ¿Su teléfono está liberado? Tenemos planes de siete y de treinta días.
Of course. Is your phone unlocked? We have seven-day and thirty-day plans.Sí, está liberado. ¿Cuántos datos incluye el plan de treinta días?
Yes, it is unlocked. How much data does the thirty-day plan include?Incluye diez gigas. Cuesta veinte mil pesos y necesita su documento para activarla.
It includes ten gigabytes. It costs twenty thousand pesos, and you need your ID to activate it.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: request and compare
You are the customer in a phone shop. The clerk greets you and asks if your phone is unlocked. You want a SIM card with data and you want to compare a short plan with a longer one.
Your task: Say your request out loud using the line from «Necesito una tarjeta SIM con datos.». Then answer the clerk's question with a short "Sí, está liberado." Next, ask how much data the plan includes using «¿Cuántos datos incluye el plan?». Finally, ask the price of the seven-day plan using «¿Cuánto cuesta el plan de siete días?».
Reply comprehension: choose the correct detail
The clerk describes the thirty-day plan. You hear the line from «Incluye diez gigas. Cuesta veinte mil pesos y necesita su documento para activarla.»: it includes ten gigabytes, it costs twenty thousand pesos, and you need your document to activate it.
Your task: Listen to or read «Incluye diez gigas. Cuesta veinte mil pesos y necesita su documento para activarla.» once. Then answer these questions out loud in English: How much data does the plan include? How much does it cost? What does the clerk need from you? After you answer in English, say the plan details back in Spanish using the words you heard.
Recall with correct roles: customer and clerk
You will now act out the whole shop conversation from memory. One person is the customer and one person is the clerk. If you are alone, play both roles and pause between lines.
Your task: Customer: greet and ask for a SIM card with data for your phone using «Buenos días. Necesito una tarjeta SIM con datos para mi teléfono.». Clerk: answer and ask if the phone is unlocked, then mention the seven-day and thirty-day plans using «Claro. ¿Su teléfono está liberado? Tenemos planes de siete y de treinta días.». Customer: say the phone is unlocked and ask how much data the thirty-day plan includes using «Sí, está liberado. ¿Cuántos datos incluye el plan de treinta días?». Clerk: give the data amount, the price, and the document requirement using «Incluye diez gigas. Cuesta veinte mil pesos y necesita su documento para activarla.». Customer: ask whether you need to top up or whether it renews by itself using «¿Necesito recargar o se renueva solo?».
Common questions
Do I need to memorize every line before speaking?
No. Start by reading each line out loud a few times, then cover the text and try from memory. It is fine to look back at the recording text when you get stuck. The goal is to build confidence with the request, the questions, and the answers, not to perform perfectly on the first try.
What if the clerk uses a word I do not know?
In this workshop you practice a specific set of lines, so focus on those first. In a real shop, you can ask the clerk to repeat or speak more slowly. For now, use the answer keys and self-checks to make sure you understand the data amount, the price, and the document requirement in the recorded dialogue.
