In this workshop you practice a short, realistic exchange at a museum ticket window. You will ask for one adult ticket, ask about a student or senior discount, and understand the seller's questions about quantity and timing. Each native example comes from the supplied recordings, so you can listen, repeat, and then use the exact lines in a guided role play. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys and self-checks to confirm your choices.

Opening the exchange and asking for a ticket

Start politely and state what you want. The line «Una entrada de adulto, por favor.» means "One adult ticket, please." The word "entrada" is the usual word for an admission ticket at a museum, and "de adulto" tells the seller it is an adult ticket. You can also greet the seller first, as in «Buenos días. Una entrada de adulto, por favor.», which means "Good morning. One adult ticket, please." Notice that the greeting comes before the request, and the request keeps the same structure: number + entrada + de + type of visitor + por favor. Practice saying the line slowly, then at a natural speed. Keep your voice calm and friendly; a clear request helps the seller understand you the first time.

    Asking about discounts

After your first request, you may want to ask about a discount. The question «¿Hay descuento para estudiantes?» means "Is there a student discount?" The structure is "¿Hay descuento para...?" followed by the group of people. For older visitors, use «¿Hay descuento para adultos mayores?», which means "Is there a senior discount?" The phrase "adultos mayores" is a respectful way to refer to seniors in Latin America. In the dialogue, the customer asks «Para ahora. ¿Hay descuento para estudiantes?», which means "For now. Is there a student discount?" The seller answers with «Sí, con credencial. Son cincuenta pesos.», which means "Yes, with student ID. It's fifty pesos." This shows that a discount may require a document, so listen for words like "credencial" (ID card).

    Understanding the seller's questions

The seller may ask how many tickets you want. The question «¿Cuántas entradas quiere?» means "How many tickets do you want?" Answer with a number and the word "entradas," for example "Dos entradas, por favor" (Two tickets, please). The seller may also ask about timing. In «Claro. ¿Es para ahora o para más tarde?», the seller asks "Sure. Is it for now or for later?" You can answer "Para ahora" (For now) or "Para más tarde" (For later). In the recorded exchange, the customer chooses "Para ahora" in «Para ahora. ¿Hay descuento para estudiantes?». Listen for the contrast between "ahora" and "más tarde," and answer with the option that fits your visit.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided ticket window exchange

Imagine you are at a museum ticket window in the morning. You want one adult ticket for right now. The seller greets you and asks whether the ticket is for now or later.

Your task: Play the customer. Greet the seller and ask for one adult ticket using the exact line from the recordings. Then answer the seller's timing question with the exact phrase for "For now." You may replay the audio and repeat until your pronunciation feels clear.

    2

    Choose the right reply

The seller asks how many tickets you want. You need two tickets. Later, the seller tells you the price and mentions that a student discount requires an ID card.

Your task: Listen to the seller's quantity question from the recordings. Choose the correct customer reply: a number plus "entradas, por favor." Then listen to the seller's statement about the student discount and ID. Decide whether the discount is available without any document or only with a student ID.

    3

Recall the exchange with correct roles

You will rebuild the recorded museum ticket exchange from memory. The scene has two roles: a customer and a ticket seller. The customer asks for one adult ticket, asks about a student discount, and chooses a time. The seller asks about timing and gives the price.

Your task: Without looking at the text, say the customer's first request and the seller's timing question. Then say the customer's answer about timing and the discount question. Finally, say the seller's reply about the ID and the price. Check your version against the recordings afterward.

    Common questions

Can I use these lines at any museum ticket window?

These lines are useful for a basic museum ticket purchase, but the exact words for discounts and payment can vary by place. The recordings give you a clear model for asking about an adult ticket, a student discount, and a senior discount. Listen carefully to the seller's reply, because the price and the need for an ID card may be different at each museum.

What should I do if the seller asks a question I do not understand?

You can politely ask the seller to repeat or speak more slowly. In this workshop, focus first on the recorded questions about quantity and timing. If you hear the quantity question, answer with a number and the word for tickets. If you hear the timing question, choose between the phrase for now and the phrase for later. Practicing these two answers will help you respond with confidence.
