In this workshop you practice asking someone how they feel and understanding a short reply. You will use simple questions and answers from the recordings, first with support and then from memory. The goal is to speak clearly, listen for the other person's meaning, and keep the conversation going in a natural order.

    Asking how someone feels

Start with a short, friendly question. «¿Estás bien?» means 'Are you okay?' and is a simple way to check on someone. «¿Te sientes bien?» means 'Do you feel okay?' or 'Are you feeling well?' and asks about the other person's state. «¿Cómo estás?» means 'How are you?' and is a general greeting question. «¿Qué te pasa?» means 'What's wrong?' or 'What's going on with you?' and asks for more detail when something seems off. Use these questions one at a time, with a calm tone, and give the other person time to answer.

    Understanding a short reply

When someone answers, listen for the main feeling and the reason. In the recorded exchange, speaker A says «Hola, ¿estás bien? Te ves un poco cansado.», which means 'Hi, are you okay? You look a bit tired.' Speaker B replies «Sí, estoy un poco estresado por el trabajo.», which means 'Yes, I'm a bit stressed because of work.' Speaker A then says «Lo siento. ¿Quieres hablar de eso?», which means 'I'm sorry. Do you want to talk about it?' Speaker B answers «Gracias, pero estoy bien. Solo necesito un descanso.», which means 'Thanks, but I'm okay. I just need a break.' Notice the order: question, reply, follow-up, and answer. Keep that order when you practice.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    A

Hola, ¿estás bien? Te ves un poco cansado.

Hi, are you okay? You look a bit tired.
    B

Sí, estoy un poco estresado por el trabajo.

Yes, I'm a bit stressed because of work.
    A

Lo siento. ¿Quieres hablar de eso?

I'm sorry. Do you want to talk about it?
    B

Gracias, pero estoy bien. Solo necesito un descanso.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided check-in exchange

Work with a partner or play both roles with the audio. One person is speaker A and the other is speaker B. Keep the recorded order: A asks, B replies, A follows up, B answers.

Your task: Read the exchange aloud in order. A says «Hola, ¿estás bien? Te ves un poco cansado.». B says «Sí, estoy un poco estresado por el trabajo.». A says «Lo siento. ¿Quieres hablar de eso?». B says «Gracias, pero estoy bien. Solo necesito un descanso.». Then swap roles and read it again without changing the order.

    2

    Choose the matching reply

Read the question and choose the reply that fits. Use only the recorded lines you have practiced.

Your task: Question: «Hola, ¿estás bien? Te ves un poco cansado.». Which reply fits: «Sí, estoy un poco estresado por el trabajo.» or «Gracias, pero estoy bien. Solo necesito un descanso.»? Say your choice aloud, then say the full exchange with the correct reply.

    3

    Recall with correct roles

Cover the lines or look away from the page. Work with a partner or play both roles with the audio.

Your task: From memory, say the exchange in order. A begins with «Hola, ¿estás bien? Te ves un poco cansado.». B replies with «Sí, estoy un poco estresado por el trabajo.». A follows up with «Lo siento. ¿Quieres hablar de eso?». B answers with «Gracias, pero estoy bien. Solo necesito un descanso.». Then swap roles and repeat from memory.

    Common questions

Can I practice alone if I do not have a partner?

Yes. You can play both roles with the audio. Say speaker A's line, then speaker B's line, and keep the recorded order. There is no automatic assessment, so check your own speaking against the success criteria.

What should I listen for in the reply?

Listen for the main feeling and the reason. In the recorded exchange, speaker B says «Sí, estoy un poco estresado por el trabajo.», which means 'Yes, I'm a bit stressed because of work.' Then listen for the follow-up and the final answer.
