Practice politely requesting extra towels in Spanish, understanding a staff reply about timing, and recalling the correct roles in a short hotel exchange.

Free lesson path Phrase audioNo sign-up needed

In this workshop you will practice a short, realistic hotel conversation in Spanish. You will learn how to ask for extra towels politely, how to understand a simple reply about when they will arrive, and how to keep the roles straight when you speak. The phrases come from the supplied recordings, so you can listen and repeat exactly what you hear. You do not need to invent new sentences; you only need to choose the right recorded line for each moment and say it clearly. Work through the sections, then try the three exercises. Each exercise has a clear answer or self-check so you can confirm what you did well.

Polite ways to ask for more towels

Start with a polite request. A very useful line is «¿Podría darme dos toallas más?», which means "Could you give me two more towels?" This is polite and works at the front desk or on the phone. Another clear option is «Necesito dos toallas adicionales, por favor.», meaning "I need two additional towels, please." It is direct but still polite. If you are speaking to housekeeping in person, you can also use «¿Me puede traer dos toallas más?», which means "Can you bring me two more towels?" Notice that all three lines include the number two and the word for towels. Say each line slowly, then a little faster. Keep your tone friendly and calm. You can use the same polite pattern for other basic room items, but in this workshop we focus only on towels.

Understanding the staff reply about timing

After you ask, staff may reply with a short question or a time. In the recorded exchange, one speaker says «Claro que sí. ¿Las quiere ahora?», which means "Of course. Do you want them now?" This is a simple yes-or-no question. You can answer with a short "Sí, por favor," meaning "Yes, please." Then you may give your room number, as in «Sí, por favor. Estoy en la habitación 305.», which means "Yes, please. I'm in room 305." The staff member may then say «Muy bien. Se las llevo en diez minutos.», meaning "Very well. I'll bring them to you in ten minutes." Listen for the time phrase at the end. You do not need to repeat the whole sentence; just understand that the towels are coming soon. If you hear a question, answer briefly and clearly.

Keeping the roles clear when you practice

A short hotel exchange has two roles: the guest and the staff member. The guest asks for towels and gives the room number. The staff member answers, asks a short question, and gives a time. In the recordings, «Buenas tardes, ¿podría darme dos toallas más?» is the guest opening the conversation: it means "Good afternoon, could you give me two more towels?" Later, «¿Las puede traer a mi habitación?» means "Can you bring them to my room?" and it is useful when you want to add your room number. When you practice, decide which role you are playing before you speak. If you are the guest, use the polite request lines. If you are the staff member, use the short reply and the time phrase. You can switch roles and repeat the same exchange. This helps you hear both sides and respond faster.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    A

Good afternoon, could you give me two more towels?
    B

Claro que sí. ¿Las quiere ahora?

Of course. Do you want them now?

    B

Muy bien. Se las llevo en diez minutos.

Very well. I'll bring them to you in ten minutes.
Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided exchange: ask and answer

Imagine you are at a hotel front desk in the afternoon. You need two more towels. The staff member is ready to help. You will play both roles, but start as the guest.

Your task: First, as the guest, say the polite opening line from the recordings that means "Good afternoon, could you give me two more towels?" Use the exact recorded line. Then, as the staff member, say the recorded line that means "Of course. Do you want them now?" After that, as the guest, say the recorded line that means "Yes, please. I'm in room 305." Finally, as the staff member, say the recorded line that means "Very well. I'll bring them to you in ten minutes."

    2

Reply comprehension: choose the right response

You are the guest. You have just asked for two more towels. The staff member replies with a short question. You need to choose the best answer from the recorded lines.

Your task: Listen to or read the staff line that means "Of course. Do you want them now?" Then choose the correct guest response from these two recorded options: the line that means "Yes, please. I'm in room 305" or the line that means "Can you bring them to my room?" Say your chosen line out loud. Then check the answer below.

    3

    Recall with correct roles

Now you will recall the whole exchange from memory. Imagine the same hotel scene. You will say all four lines in order, but you must keep the roles correct: guest, staff, guest, staff.

Your task: Say the four recorded lines in the correct order. Start with the guest opening line that means "Good afternoon, could you give me two more towels?" Then say the staff line that means "Of course. Do you want them now?" Then say the guest line that means "Yes, please. I'm in room 305." Then say the staff line that means "Very well. I'll bring them to you in ten minutes." Do not mix up the guest and staff lines.

    Common questions

Do I need to memorize every line perfectly?

No. The goal is to practice polite requests and simple replies. You can look at the recorded lines while you speak, then try again from memory. Small mistakes are normal. Focus on clear pronunciation and a friendly tone. Repeat the same exchange a few times, and it will feel more natural.

Can I use these lines for other room items?

The polite pattern is useful, but this workshop only practices towels. If you want to ask for something else, you would need the correct word for that item. For now, stay with the recorded lines so you can build confidence. When you feel ready, you can ask your teacher or a language partner for more vocabulary.
