In this workshop you will practice asking someone for a recipe in Spanish and responding when they offer to give it to you. You will hear short, useful lines and use them in guided exchanges. The focus is on making a clear request, understanding the other person's reply, and choosing a suitable follow-up. You can practice both roles: the person asking and the person answering. Listen to the recordings, repeat the lines, then try the tasks. The goal is to feel comfortable making a simple request and keeping the conversation moving.
Making the request
Start with a direct but polite request. The line «¿Me puedes dar la receta?» means "Can you give me the recipe?" Use it when you want the recipe from someone. If you want it in writing, use «¿Me la puedes escribir?», which means "Can you write it down for me?" If you prefer to receive it digitally, use «¿Me la puedes mandar por mensaje?», which means "Can you send it to me by message?" These three lines let you ask for the recipe in different ways. Notice that each one is a question, so your voice should rise slightly at the end. Practice saying each line slowly, then at a natural speed. When you are ready, imagine you are talking to a friend who made something you liked. Choose one of the three requests and say it out loud.
Understanding the reply
When you ask for a recipe, the other person may agree. The line «Claro, te la doy.» means "Sure, I'll give it to you." This is a positive reply. In a longer exchange, someone might also ask a follow-up question. For example, «Claro, te la doy. ¿La quieres escrita?» means "Sure, I'll give it to you. Do you want it written?" Here the speaker agrees and then checks how you want the recipe. If you want it by message, you can answer with «Sí, ¿me la puedes mandar por mensaje?», which means "Yes, can you send it to me by message?" Then the other person may confirm with «Sí, ahora te la mando.», which means "Yes, I'll send it to you now." Listen for the agreement first, then listen for any question about how to send it. That helps you choose the right response.
Putting it together
A natural exchange can start with a specific request. The line «Oye, ¿me puedes dar la receta de ese pastel?» means "Hey, can you give me the recipe for that cake?" This is a friendly way to ask about a particular recipe. The other person can reply with «Claro, te la doy. ¿La quieres escrita?», agreeing and asking if you want it written. You can then say «Sí, ¿me la puedes mandar por mensaje?» to ask for it by message, and they can close with «Sí, ahora te la mando.», saying they will send it now. Practice the whole sequence: request, reply, follow-up, and confirmation. You can play both roles. First, read the person asking. Then, read the person answering. Keep the order the same: request, reply, follow-up, confirmation. This helps you get used to the flow without needing to invent new lines.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.
Oye, ¿me puedes dar la receta de ese pastel?
Hey, can you give me the recipe for that cake?Claro, te la doy. ¿La quieres escrita?
Sure, I'll give it to you. Do you want it written?Sí, ¿me la puedes mandar por mensaje?
Yes, can you send it to me by message?Sí, ahora te la mando.
Yes, I'll send it to you now.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: ask and respond
You are talking to a friend who made a cake you liked. You want the recipe. Your friend is ready to help.
Your task: Read the exchange aloud. Person A says «Oye, ¿me puedes dar la receta de ese pastel?». Person B replies with «Claro, te la doy. ¿La quieres escrita?». Person A answers with «Sí, ¿me la puedes mandar por mensaje?». Person B closes with «Sí, ahora te la mando.». Then swap roles and read it again.
Choose the right reply
You hear someone ask for a recipe. You need to choose a suitable reply from the lines you practiced.
Your task: Someone says «¿Me puedes dar la receta?». Which reply fits: «Claro, te la doy.» or «Sí, ¿me la puedes mandar por mensaje?»? Say your choice aloud, then check the answer below.
Recall and rebuild the exchange
You will rebuild the exchange from memory. The lines are the same ones you practiced, but you will not look at them at first.
Your task: Without looking, say the four lines in order: the request about the cake, the reply that agrees and asks about writing, the follow-up asking for a message, and the confirmation of sending. Then check the answer key and read the lines again.
Common questions
Can I use these lines if I want the recipe in person instead of by message?
Yes. «¿Me puedes dar la receta?» asks for the recipe in general, and «¿Me la puedes escribir?» asks for it in writing. If you want it by message, use «¿Me la puedes mandar por mensaje?». Choose the line that matches how you want to receive it.
What should I listen for when someone replies to my request?
Listen first for agreement, like in «Claro, te la doy.». Then listen for a question about how to send it, like in «Claro, te la doy. ¿La quieres escrita?». That question tells you which follow-up to use, such as «Sí, ¿me la puedes mandar por mensaje?» for a message.
