In this workshop you will practice a short, realistic conversation about renting a bicycle in Spanish. You will learn how to ask where you can rent a bicycle, how to ask the price per hour or per day, and how to ask what the rental includes, such as a helmet or a lock. Each Spanish line is shown with its English meaning, so you understand what you are saying before you try it. Then you will do three speaking tasks: a guided exchange, a reply comprehension task, and a recall task where you play both roles. You can do all of this alone with the recordings. There is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys and self-checks to judge your own speaking.
Asking where and how much
Start with the most useful general question. The line «¿Dónde puedo alquilar una bicicleta?» means "Where can I rent a bicycle?" Use it when you walk into a shop or stop at a rental stand. Once you know the place, ask about the price. The line «¿Cuánto cuesta alquilar una bicicleta por hora?» means "How much does it cost to rent a bicycle per hour?" This is a full question with the word bicicleta inside it. If you already know which bicycle you want, you can use the shorter question «¿Cuánto cuesta por día?», which means "How much does it cost per day?" Notice that por hora means per hour and por día means per day. Say the lines slowly at first, then at a natural speed. Keep your voice calm and friendly, as if you were really talking to a person at a rental counter.
Asking what is included
After the price, ask what comes with the bicycle. The line «¿La bicicleta viene con casco?» means "Does the bicycle come with a helmet?" The phrase viene con means comes with. This workshop focuses on the helmet and lock named in the recorded reply. In the recorded conversation, the customer asks about the price and the helmet together. The line «¿Cuánto cuesta por día y viene con casco?» means "How much does it cost per day, and does it come with a helmet?" The staff member answers with the line «Cuesta diez dólares por día e incluye casco y candado.», which means "It costs ten dollars per day and includes a helmet and a lock." Listen for the word incluye, which means includes. When you speak, link the two ideas with y, which means and. This helps you ask two things in one polite question.
Following the recorded conversation
The dialogue has two roles. The customer speaks first with the line «Buenos días, ¿dónde puedo alquilar una bicicleta?», which means "Good morning, where can I rent a bicycle?" The staff member replies with the line «Aquí mismo. Tenemos bicicletas por hora o por día.», which means "Right here. We have bicycles by the hour or by the day." Then the customer asks the combined question «¿Cuánto cuesta por día y viene con casco?», and the staff member gives the answer «Cuesta diez dólares por día e incluye casco y candado.». As you practice, decide which role you are playing. If you are the customer, you say the lines that ask questions. If you are the staff member, you say the lines that give information. You can play both roles with the audio, but you must check your own speaking. Listen for the polite greeting buenos días at the start, and notice how the conversation stays short and clear. Ten dollars, the helmet and the lock are details of this sample offer, not a typical price or a promise about any rental shop.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Right here. We have bicycles by the hour or by the day.¿Cuánto cuesta por día y viene con casco?
How much does it cost per day, and does it come with a helmet?Cuesta diez dólares por día e incluye casco y candado.
It costs ten dollars per day and includes a helmet and a lock.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange at the rental stand
Imagine you are a visitor in a Spanish-speaking town. You see a small bicycle rental stand and you want to rent a bicycle for the day. You will play the customer. The staff member's lines are provided from the recordings, so you only need to say the customer's lines.
Your task: Say the customer's opening line from the recording «Buenos días, ¿dónde puedo alquilar una bicicleta?». Then, after the staff member says the line «Aquí mismo. Tenemos bicicletas por hora o por día.», ask the combined question from the recording «¿Cuánto cuesta por día y viene con casco?». Say both lines out loud, slowly and clearly. If you need to, pause the audio and repeat each line three times before moving on.
Choose the correct reply
In this task you read or hear a customer's question and choose the best reply from the recorded dialogue. The customer asks about the price per day and about the helmet. You will read or hear the question, then decide which recorded answer fits.
Your task: Read the customer's question from the recording «¿Cuánto cuesta por día y viene con casco?». It means "How much does it cost per day, and does it come with a helmet?" Now look at the two possible replies. Reply one is the recorded line «Cuesta diez dólares por día e incluye casco y candado.», which means "It costs ten dollars per day and includes a helmet and a lock." Reply two is the recorded line «Aquí mismo. Tenemos bicicletas por hora o por día.», which means "Right here. We have bicycles by the hour or by the day." Say the reply that answers the customer's question. Then say the other reply out loud and explain to yourself why it does not fit here.
Recall the conversation with correct roles
Now you will recall the whole recorded conversation from memory. The scene has two roles: a customer who asks questions and a staff member who gives information. You will play both roles, one after the other, without looking at the lines first.
Your task: Start as the customer. Say the greeting and the question from the recording «Buenos días, ¿dónde puedo alquilar una bicicleta?». Then switch to the staff member and say the reply from the recording «Aquí mismo. Tenemos bicicletas por hora o por día.». Switch back to the customer and say the combined question from the recording «¿Cuánto cuesta por día y viene con casco?». Finally, switch to the staff member and say the answer from the recording «Cuesta diez dólares por día e incluye casco y candado.». Try to do this without reading. If you get stuck, look at the line, say it, and then start the whole conversation again.
Common questions
Do I need a partner to practice this conversation?
No. You can practice alone with the recordings. Play the audio for one role and speak the other role out loud. Then switch and play the other role. Because there is no automatic assessment, use the success criteria in each exercise to check your own speaking. You can also record yourself and listen back to hear if your words are clear.
What should I do if I forget a line during the recall task?
That is normal. Look at the recorded line, read it out loud once, and then start the conversation again from the beginning. Repeat this until you can say the whole exchange without looking. Short, repeated practice is better than one long session. Practice the customer's questions and the staff member's replies in order, and add the English meanings only when you need them.
