In this workshop you will practice a short customer-and-staff exchange at a shipping counter. You will ask how much it costs to ship or send something, ask whether the price depends on weight, say how much a package weighs, and understand a staff member's questions about weight and destination. You can play both roles with the recordings, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer checks to judge your own speaking. The goal is to build a clear, polite exchange you can repeat aloud.

    Asking the basic price question

Start with the customer's main question. The line «¿Cuánto cuesta enviar esto?» means "How much does it cost to ship this?" The line «¿Cuánto cuesta mandar este paquete?» means "How much does it cost to send this package?" Both are useful when you are at a counter and want a price. Say them slowly, then repeat them at a natural speed. Keep your voice calm and friendly. If you are holding the item or pointing to it, the meaning is clear. Practice each line three times before moving on.

    Weight and destination

A staff member may not give one simple price. The line «¿El precio depende del peso?» means "Does the price depend on the weight?" This is a good follow-up question from the customer. The line «Pesa dos kilos.» means "It weighs two kilos." Use it when you know the weight of your package. In the longer exchange, the staff member asks about weight and destination, and the customer answers with a destination and a weight. Listen for the question word and the key noun, then answer only what is asked.

    A full counter exchange

Now combine the lines into a short conversation. The customer begins with «Buenos días, ¿cuánto cuesta enviar este paquete?», which means "Good morning, how much does it cost to ship this package?" The staff member replies with «Depende del peso y del destino. ¿A dónde lo va a enviar?», which means "It depends on the weight and destination. Where are you going to send it?" The customer answers with «A México. Pesa dos kilos.», which means "To Mexico. It weighs two kilos." The staff member then gives a price and asks a follow-up question in «Son 300 pesos. ¿Quiere enviarlo certificado?», which means "It's 300 pesos. Do you want to send it certified?" Practice both roles. As the customer, focus on clear questions. As the staff member, focus on a helpful tone.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided exchange at the counter

You are the customer at a shipping counter. The staff member is ready to help. Use the recordings to guide your lines.

Your task: Play the customer role. Say the opening line from «Buenos días, ¿cuánto cuesta enviar este paquete?». Then listen to the staff reply from «Depende del peso y del destino. ¿A dónde lo va a enviar?». Answer with the destination and weight from «A México. Pesa dos kilos.». Finally, listen to the price and follow-up question from «Son 300 pesos. ¿Quiere enviarlo certificado?». Repeat the exchange twice, then switch roles if you can.

    2

    Choose the right reply

You hear a staff member ask about weight and destination. You need to choose a suitable customer reply from the recordings.

Your task: Listen to «Depende del peso y del destino. ¿A dónde lo va a enviar?». Then choose the best customer reply: «A México. Pesa dos kilos.» or «¿Cuánto cuesta enviar esto?». Say your chosen line aloud. Next, listen to «¿El precio depende del peso?» and decide whether it is a customer question or a staff question. Explain your choice in simple English.

    3

Recall the exchange with correct roles

Cover the recording references. You will rebuild the counter exchange from memory, keeping the customer and staff roles correct.

Your task: Say the customer opening from memory. Then say the staff reply about weight and destination. Then say the customer answer with destination and weight. Finally, say the staff price and follow-up question. After that, switch roles and repeat. Use the recordings only to check yourself after speaking.

    Common questions

Can I use these lines if I am the staff member instead of the customer?

Yes. The recordings include both customer and staff lines. Practice the customer lines first, then switch and practice the staff lines. This helps you understand the whole exchange from both sides.

What should I do if I do not know the weight of my package?

You can still ask the price question from «¿Cuánto cuesta enviar esto?» or «¿Cuánto cuesta mandar este paquete?». If the staff member asks about weight, you can ask «¿El precio depende del peso?» and then ask the clerk for help in simple Spanish or English. The recordings give you the main question and answer patterns to practice.
