In this workshop you will practice a short hotel conversation in Spanish. You will learn how to ask what time check-out is, how to understand a simple answer, and how to ask about checking out later or leaving your luggage. Each native example comes from the recordings, and you will see its English meaning before you practice it. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys to check yourself.
Asking the check-out time
Start with the most direct question. «¿A qué hora es el check-out?» means "What time is check-out?" This is widely understood in hotels. A fully Spanish alternative is «¿A qué hora tengo que dejar la habitación?», which means "What time do I have to leave the room?" Use «¿A qué hora tengo que dejar la habitación?» if the hotel does not use the word "check-out." Both questions ask for the same information. When you speak, keep your voice calm and friendly. The first two recorded questions do not include "por favor"; the later recorded late check-out question does. Practice saying each line slowly, then a little faster.
Understanding the answer
A staff member may answer with a simple time. In the source dialogue, the guest asks «Buenos días, ¿a qué hora es el check-out?», which means "Good morning, what time is check-out?" The staff member replies «El check-out es a las doce del mediodía.», which means "Check-out is at twelve noon." Notice the structure: "El check-out es a las..." followed by the time. You do not need to repeat the whole question. Just listen for the time. If you hear "doce del mediodía," that means twelve noon. If you hear "una," that means one o'clock. The answer tells you the deadline for leaving the room.
Asking for late check-out and luggage
If you need more time, ask «¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde?», which means "Can I check out later?" You can add "por favor" to soften it, as in «¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde, por favor?», which means "Can I check out later, please?" A possible answer is «Sí, hasta la una, sin costo.», which means "Yes, until one o'clock, at no cost." This tells you the new time and that there is no extra charge. If your flight is later, you can also ask «¿Puedo dejar mi equipaje después del check-out?», which means "Can I leave my luggage after check-out?" This is useful when you want to store your bags after leaving the room. Practice these questions so you can use them in a real hotel.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.
Buenos días, ¿a qué hora es el check-out?
Good morning, what time is check-out?El check-out es a las doce del mediodía.
Check-out is at twelve noon.¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde, por favor?
Can I check out later, please?Sí, hasta la una, sin costo.
Yes, until one o'clock, at no cost.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: ask and answer
You are a guest at a hotel. You want to know the check-out time. Play the guest role first, then switch to the staff role.
Your task: Guest: Say the question from «¿A qué hora es el check-out?». Staff: Answer with the line from «El check-out es a las doce del mediodía.». Then switch roles and repeat. After that, Guest: Ask the question from «¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde?». Staff: Answer with the line from «Sí, hasta la una, sin costo.».
Reply comprehension: choose the correct meaning
You hear a staff member say a line from the recordings. Choose the correct English meaning from the options.
Your task: Listen to «El check-out es a las doce del mediodía.». Does it mean (a) Check-out is at twelve noon, or (b) Check-out is at one o'clock? Then listen to «Sí, hasta la una, sin costo.». Does it mean (a) Yes, until one o'clock, at no cost, or (b) No, late check-out is not possible?
Recall and role-play: guest and staff
Now practice without looking at the lines. Imagine you are at the hotel front desk. You will play both the guest and the staff member.
Your task: First, as the guest, ask what time check-out is using the line from «¿A qué hora tengo que dejar la habitación?». Then, as the staff, answer with the line from «El check-out es a las doce del mediodía.». Next, as the guest, ask for late check-out using «¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde, por favor?». Finally, as the staff, answer with «Sí, hasta la una, sin costo.». After this exchange, say the separate luggage question «¿Puedo dejar mi equipaje después del check-out?» once as an additional practice line.
Common questions
What is the difference between «¿A qué hora es el check-out?» and «¿A qué hora tengo que dejar la habitación?»?
«¿A qué hora es el check-out?» means "What time is check-out?" and uses the English word "check-out." «¿A qué hora tengo que dejar la habitación?» means "What time do I have to leave the room?" and is fully in Spanish. Both ask for the same information. Use «¿A qué hora es el check-out?» in tourist areas where "check-out" is common, and «¿A qué hora tengo que dejar la habitación?» if you prefer a fully Spanish question.
How do I ask for late check-out and understand the answer?
Ask «¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde?», which means "Can I check out later?" You can add "por favor" as in «¿Puedo hacer el check-out más tarde, por favor?». A possible answer is «Sí, hasta la una, sin costo.», which means "Yes, until one o'clock, at no cost." Listen for the time and whether there is a cost. If you hear "sin costo," it means there is no extra charge.
