Ask About an Apartment Rental in Spanish

Practice asking whether a rental is available, the monthly cost, and what is included, then understand the replies.

In this workshop you practice a short apartment conversation in Spanish. You will ask whether a place is available, ask the monthly price, and ask what is included. You will also read the other person's replies and check your understanding. Each native line is recorded, so you can listen and repeat. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys to check yourself.

Asking if a place is available

Start with a simple availability question. The line «¿Está disponible este apartamento por un mes?» means "Is this apartment available for a month?" Use it when you are standing in front of a place or looking at a listing and want to know if you can rent it for one month. A related line is «Busco un alquiler por un mes.», which means "I'm looking for a rental for a month." This one states what you need instead of asking about a specific place. In a real exchange, you can say «Busco un alquiler por un mes.» first, then point to a place and ask «¿Está disponible este apartamento por un mes?». Keep your voice calm and make the question rise at the end. Repeat each line slowly, then at normal speed.

Asking about price and what is included

After availability, ask about money. The line «¿Cuánto cuesta por mes?» means "How much does it cost per month?" Use it to ask the monthly price. Then ask what the price covers with «¿Incluye los servicios?», which means "Does it include utilities?" Utilities are services like water, electricity, and internet. These two questions are short, so say them clearly and pause between them. When you hear an answer, listen for the price and for the services. You do not need to repeat every word back; a short "thank you" or a nod is enough in a friendly exchange.

A full exchange from start to finish

Now put the questions together in one conversation. The speaker in «Buenos días. Busco un apartamento por un mes. ¿Está disponible este?» says, "Good morning. I'm looking for an apartment for a month. Is this one available?" The other person answers in «Sí, está disponible. ¿Para qué fechas?»: "Yes, it's available. For what dates?" The first speaker gives dates and asks two questions in «Del primero al treinta de junio. ¿Cuánto cuesta por mes y incluye los servicios?»: "From the first to the thirtieth of June. How much does it cost per month, and does it include utilities?" The reply in «Cuesta quinientos dólares por mes, e incluye agua e internet. Se necesita un depósito de cien dólares.» gives the price and what is included: "It costs five hundred dollars per month, and it includes water and internet. A deposit of one hundred dollars is required." Notice the order: greeting and need, availability question, dates, price and utilities questions, then the answer with price, included services, and deposit.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

Guided exchange: ask about the apartment

You are the person looking for a place. Your partner plays the owner. Use the recorded lines as your model. Read your part aloud, then listen to the owner's reply.

Your task: Say the line for "Good morning. I'm looking for an apartment for a month. Is this one available?" Then, after the owner answers, say the line for "From the first to the thirtieth of June. How much does it cost per month, and does it include utilities?"

    2

Reply comprehension: choose and say the correct answer

Read the owner's reply and choose the best response from the options. The owner says the line for "Yes, it's available. For what dates?"

Your task: Which reply fits? A) The line for "From the first to the thirtieth of June. How much does it cost per month, and does it include utilities?" B) The line for "I'm looking for a rental for a month." C) The line for "Does it include utilities?" Then say the correct Spanish line aloud.

    3

Recall and role swap: rebuild the conversation

Cover the lines and try to remember the conversation from the beginning. Then swap roles with your partner and do it again.

Your task: First, as the person looking for a place, say the greeting and availability question, then the dates, price, and utilities questions. Then swap: your partner says those lines, and you give the owner's reply with the price, included services, and deposit.

    Common questions

Can I practice alone if I do not have a partner?

Yes. Play the recording of one speaker, pause, and say the other speaker's line aloud. Then check your line against the answer key and the dialogue text. You can do this for both roles, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys in the exercises to check yourself.

What should I listen for in the owner's reply?

Listen for three things: whether the place is available, the monthly price, and what is included. In the recorded reply, the owner says it is available, gives a monthly price, mentions water and internet, and states the deposit. If you hear those details, you have understood the main information.
