In this workshop you practice a short everyday Korean exchange about how someone is doing. You will hear a simple question, a positive answer, a tired answer, and a caring follow-up. You will speak both roles, choose replies that fit what you hear, and then recall the whole exchange from memory. The recordings give you the exact lines to use, so you can focus on rhythm, politeness, and responding naturally.
The question and two common answers
The core question asks how someone is doing. In the recording, the question means “How are you doing? / Are you doing well?” «잘 지내?». A common positive answer is “Yeah, I'm doing well.” «응, 잘 지내.». A stronger positive answer is “Pretty good! / Really good!” «완전 좋아!». Notice that the positive answers are short and friendly. When you speak them, keep your voice relaxed and let the ending fall gently. You can practice by saying the question first, then answering with each positive reply. This helps you hear the difference between a simple “doing well” and a more enthusiastic “pretty good.”
A tired answer and a caring follow-up
Not every answer is positive. The recording also gives a tired answer: “I'm a bit tired.” «좀 피곤해.». This is useful when you want to be honest but not dramatic. In the longer exchange, one speaker asks, “Minsu, how are you doing?” «민수야, 잘 지내?». The other speaker answers, “Yeah, pretty good! And you?” «응, 완전 좋아! 너는?». Then the first speaker says, “I'm a bit tired. I went to bed late yesterday.” «나는 좀 피곤해. 어제 늦게 잤어.». The other speaker responds with care: “Oh, really? Then sleep early today.” «아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.». Practice the tired answer as recorded, and practice the caring reply with a warm, gentle tone.
Roles, order, and polite rhythm
In the longer exchange, the first speaker asks the question and later gives the tired answer. The second speaker gives the positive answer and asks “And you?” «응, 완전 좋아! 너는?», then gives the caring follow-up «아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.». When you swap roles, you change who reads which part, but the order stays the same: question, answer, return question, tired answer, caring reply. Keep the question clear and the answers short. Do not rush the caring line; practice it with a warm tone. Practicing both roles helps you hear how the exchange fits together and prepares you to respond when someone asks you the same question.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

민수야, 잘 지내?
Minsu, how are you doing?응, 완전 좋아! 너는?
Yeah, pretty good! And you?나는 좀 피곤해. 어제 늦게 잤어.
I'm a bit tired. I went to bed late yesterday.아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.
Oh, really? Then sleep early today.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided exchange: ask and answer
You will speak both roles in a short exchange. Use the recordings as your model. Imagine you meet a friend in the morning.
Your task: First, play or read the question “How are you doing? / Are you doing well?” «잘 지내?» and answer with “Yeah, I'm doing well.” «응, 잘 지내.». Then repeat the question and answer with “Pretty good! / Really good!” «완전 좋아!». Finally, repeat the question and answer with “I'm a bit tired.” «좀 피곤해.». Say each pair out loud twice.
Reply comprehension: choose what fits
You will hear or read a line and choose the best reply from the taught options. Imagine two classmates meeting after a long day.
Your task: For each prompt, choose the matching reply. Prompt 1: “Minsu, how are you doing?” «민수야, 잘 지내?». Choices: (a) “Yeah, pretty good! And you?” «응, 완전 좋아! 너는?» (b) “Oh, really? Then sleep early today.” «아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.». Prompt 2: “I'm a bit tired. I went to bed late yesterday.” «나는 좀 피곤해. 어제 늦게 잤어.». Choices: (a) “Yeah, I'm doing well.” «응, 잘 지내.» (b) “Oh, really? Then sleep early today.” «아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.».
Recall the exchange with swapped roles
You will recall the longer exchange from memory. First, decide who is Speaker A and who is Speaker B. Then swap roles and repeat.
Your task: With a partner or by yourself, say the exchange in order. Speaker A: “Minsu, how are you doing?” «민수야, 잘 지내?». Speaker B: “Yeah, pretty good! And you?” «응, 완전 좋아! 너는?». Speaker A: “I'm a bit tired. I went to bed late yesterday.” «나는 좀 피곤해. 어제 늦게 잤어.». Speaker B: “Oh, really? Then sleep early today.” «아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.». After one round, swap roles and say it again.
Common questions
Can I practice this workshop alone without a partner?
Yes. You can play both roles by reading each line aloud and then swapping. The recordings give you the exact lines, so you can check your speaking against them. There is no automatic assessment, so use the success criteria to check yourself after each task.
What should I focus on when I say the tired answer and the caring reply?
Keep the tired answer as recorded, as in “I'm a bit tired.” «좀 피곤해.». For the caring reply, use a warm and gentle tone, as in “Oh, really? Then sleep early today.” «아, 그래? 그럼 오늘 일찍 자.». The goal is to sound natural and kind, not dramatic or forceful.
