In this workshop you will practice a short Korean self-introduction and a friendly reply. You will hear each native line, learn what it means in English, and then use it in three short tasks. The recordings give you the exact Korean to say, so you can focus on speaking clearly and responding at the right moment.

    Your First Two Lines

Start with a greeting and your name. The recording «안녕하세요, 저는 알렉스예요.» means "Hello, I'm Alex." Say it slowly, then say it again at a natural speed. Next, add where you are from. The recording «저는 캐나다에서 왔어요.» means "I'm from Canada." Keep your voice calm and friendly. These two lines are enough to begin a simple introduction, and you can repeat them until they feel comfortable.

    Adding Something You Like

After your name and hometown, you can add one more detail. The recording «저는 등산을 좋아해요.» means "I like hiking." This gives the other person something to respond to. You can also mention that you study Korean. The recording «저는 한국어를 배워요.» means "I study Korean." Choose one of these lines, not both, so your introduction stays short and easy to follow.

    Hearing a Friendly Reply

When you introduce yourself, the other person may greet you and ask a question. The recording «반가워요. 어디에서 왔어요?» means "Nice to meet you. Where are you from?" Listen for the question at the end. Then answer with your hometown and one thing you like. The recording «캐나다에서 왔어요. 등산을 좋아해요.» means "I'm from Canada. I like hiking." If the other person shares the same interest, they may say the recording «아, 저도 등산을 좋아해요.», which means "Oh, I like hiking too."

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    Hello, I'm Alex.
    B

    반가워요. 어디에서 왔어요?

    B

Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided Introduction

Imagine you meet a friendly new classmate. You will speak first, then listen to their reply.

Your task: Say the recording «안녕하세요, 저는 알렉스예요.» as your greeting. Then say the recording «저는 캐나다에서 왔어요.» to tell where you are from. After that, listen to the recording «반가워요. 어디에서 왔어요?» and answer with the recording «캐나다에서 왔어요. 등산을 좋아해요.».

    2

    Choose the Right Reply

You hear a friendly reply after your introduction. Read the choices and pick the one that fits.

Your task: Listen to the recording «반가워요. 어디에서 왔어요?». It means "Nice to meet you. Where are you from?" Which reply fits best? Choice A: the recording «캐나다에서 왔어요. 등산을 좋아해요.», meaning "I'm from Canada. I like hiking." Choice B: the recording «아, 저도 등산을 좋아해요.», meaning "Oh, I like hiking too." Say your choice out loud, then say the full reply.

    3

    Recall and Swap Roles

Now you will recall the whole exchange. First you play the person who introduces themselves, then you switch roles.

Your task: Play the first speaker. Say the recording «안녕하세요, 저는 알렉스예요.», which means "Hello, I'm Alex." Then listen to the recording «반가워요. 어디에서 왔어요?» and answer with the recording «캐나다에서 왔어요. 등산을 좋아해요.». Now swap roles. Play the second speaker and say the recording «반가워요. 어디에서 왔어요?». Then listen to the recording «캐나다에서 왔어요. 등산을 좋아해요.» and reply with the recording «아, 저도 등산을 좋아해요.».

    Common questions

Do I need to understand every Korean word to use these lines?

No. Start by learning what each full line means in English, such as the recording «안녕하세요, 저는 알렉스예요.» meaning "Hello, I'm Alex." Then practice saying the whole line. You can add meaning to individual words later.

What if I make a mistake while speaking?

Pause, listen to the recording again, and repeat the full line. The recording «저는 캐나다에서 왔어요.» means "I'm from Canada," so you can check your line against that meaning and try again without rushing.
