Free lesson path Phrase audioNo sign-up needed

In this workshop you will practice talking about two common life changes: moving to a new city and changing jobs. You will first learn the meaning of each recorded line in English, then use those exact lines in short guided exchanges. After that, you will listen to a reply and choose the correct response, and finally you will recall the conversation with the correct roles. Each task includes an answer or self-check so you can confirm your speaking and listening.

    Meaning of the Recorded Lines

Before speaking, read the English meaning of each recorded line. «去年、新しい町に引っ越しました。» means that the speaker moved to a new city last year. «三か月前に転職しました。» means that the speaker changed jobs three months ago. «引っ越しは大変でした。» means that the move was tough. «今はとても嬉しいです。» means that the speaker is now very happy. These lines give you ready-made phrases for talking about a move and a job change. Notice that one line is about a past event and another is about a present feeling. When you speak, keep the same subject and activity as the recorded line you are using.

    How the Lines Fit Together

The recorded lines can form a short exchange. One speaker shares a life change, and the other speaker responds. «去年、新しい町に引っ越しました。» is a statement about moving to a new city last year. «そうですか。引っ越しは大変でしたか。» is a reply that shows understanding and asks whether the move was tough. «はい、でも今はとても嬉しいです。» answers that question and adds a present feeling. «いいですね。私は三か月前に転職しました。» responds to that feeling and shares a different life change: changing jobs three months ago. In your practice, keep the order of statement, reply, follow-up, and answer. Do not begin with an answer or reassurance before its request.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

Guided Exchange: Move and Job Change

Work with a partner or play both roles yourself with the audio. One person is Speaker A and the other is Speaker B. Use only the recorded lines.

Your task: Speaker A says the line for moving to a new city last year. Speaker B replies with the line that shows understanding and asks whether the move was tough. Speaker A answers with the line that says yes, but now very happy. Speaker B responds with the line that says that is nice and shares changing jobs three months ago.

    2

Reply Comprehension: Choose the Correct Response

Listen to or read the reply line that shows understanding and asks whether the move was tough. Then look at the three choices below.

Your task: Choose the best response from these three options: (1) the line that says yes, but now very happy; (2) the line that says last year, I moved to a new city; (3) the line that says I changed jobs three months ago. Say your chosen line aloud.

    3

    Recall with Correct Roles

Cover the recorded lines. Work with a partner or use the audio. One person will be Speaker A and the other Speaker B.

Your task: Recall the short exchange from memory. Speaker A starts with the move to a new city last year. Speaker B gives the reply that shows understanding and asks about the move. Speaker A answers with yes, but now very happy. Speaker B responds with that is nice and shares changing jobs three months ago. Then swap roles and repeat the same order.

    Common questions

Can I practice alone without a partner?

Yes. You can play both roles yourself with the audio. Say Speaker A's line, then Speaker B's line, and continue in order. There is no automatic assessment, so use the success criteria and answer keys to check yourself.

What should I do if I forget a line during recall?

Pause and look at the recorded line, then say it aloud and continue. After finishing, repeat the recall without looking. Keep the same order: statement, reply, follow-up, answer.
