This workshop helps you practise a short museum or sightseeing exchange in Japanese. You will ask whether an audio guide is available in Spanish, ask about the fee, say you want to rent one, and understand a reply that mentions the fee and a guided tour. The recordings give you the exact lines to use, so you can rehearse the exchange aloud before you try it in a real situation.

    Asking about an audio guide

Start with a polite question. «スペイン語の音声ガイドはありますか。» means that you are asking whether an audio guide in Spanish is available. «すみません、スペイン語の音声ガイドはありますか。» adds an opening apology or attention-getter before the same kind of question, so it is useful when you need to stop someone and ask. If you already know you want one, «音声ガイドを借りたいです。» states that you would like to rent an audio guide. «ガイドツアーではなく、音声ガイドをお願いします。» makes clear that you want an audio guide rather than a guided tour. Practise these lines slowly, keeping your voice even and polite. The goal is to make your request clear before the other person replies.

    Understanding the reply

When you ask about an audio guide, listen for two pieces of information: whether one is available and what it costs. «はい、あります。料金は五百円です。» answers yes and gives the fee. «料金はいくらですか。» is the question you can use if you need to ask how much the fee is. , the speaker says they would like to rent an audio guide and then asks until what time it can be rented. «五時までです。ガイドツアーもございますが、いかがですか。» answers with a time and then offers a guided tour as an alternative. Notice that the reply can include more than one option, so listen for the word for guided tour as well as the word for audio guide.

    Keeping the exchange in order

A simple service exchange has a natural order: you greet or get attention, ask your question, hear the answer, and then respond or ask a follow-up. «すみません、スペイン語の音声ガイドはありますか。» shows the opening question, and «はい、あります。 shows the reply with the fee. «音声ガイドを借りたいです。何時まで借りられますか。» shows a follow-up question about rental time, and «五時までです。 shows the answer with a time and an extra offer. When you practise with a partner, keep this order even if you swap who plays the visitor and who plays the staff member. The person asking still asks first, and the person answering still answers after. That way the conversation stays realistic and easy to follow.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Checking available voices…

    B

Yes, we do. The fee is 500 yen.
    A

I would like to rent an audio guide. Until what time can I rent it?
    B

Until 5 o'clock. We also have a guided tour; would you like that?
Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided exchange at the counter

You are at a museum counter. Your partner plays the staff member. Use the recordings as your script and read your part aloud.

Your task: Read «すみません、スペイン語の音声ガイドはありますか。» as the visitor. as the staff member. as the visitor, and your partner reads «五時までです。 as the staff member. After one round, swap roles and read the same lines in the same order.

    2

    Choose the right reply

Your partner asks a question from the recordings. You choose the reply that fits and say it aloud.

Your task: Your partner reads «すみません、スペイン語の音声ガイドはありますか。». as the reply that directly answers the question about availability and fee. Then your partner reads «音声ガイドを借りたいです。 as the reply that answers the rental-time question and adds an offer.

    3

    Recall and swap roles

Cover the recording references. You and your partner will rebuild the exchange from memory, then swap roles.

Your task: Without looking, say the visitor line that asks about an audio guide in Spanish. Your partner says the staff reply with the fee. Then say the visitor line that asks until what time you can rent an audio guide. Your partner says the staff reply with the time and the guided tour offer. After one round, swap roles and repeat the same order.

    Common questions

Can I practise alone if I do not have a partner?

Yes. You can play both roles yourself by reading the visitor lines and then the staff lines aloud. There is no automatic assessment, so use the recording references to check your order and wording after each round.

What should I listen for in the staff reply?

Listen first for whether an audio guide is available, then for the fee. , also listen for a time and for the offer of a guided tour, because the reply can include an alternative as well as the answer to your question.
