In this workshop you will practice a short hotel conversation about breakfast. You will ask simple questions, understand short answers, and then recall the correct lines for each role. The native examples come from the recordings, so listen carefully and repeat them aloud. You can play both the guest and the staff member. There is no automatic scoring, so use the answer checks to judge your own speaking and listening.
Asking if breakfast is included
Start with the most useful question for a hotel stay. The line «朝食はついていますか。» means "Is breakfast included?" Say it slowly, then a little faster. When you speak to staff, you can begin with a polite opening. The line «すみません、朝食はついていますか。» means "Excuse me, is breakfast included?" The first word gets attention, and the rest asks the same question as «朝食はついていますか。». A staff member can answer with «はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。», which means "Yes, it is included. We have Japanese-style and Western-style breakfast." Notice that the answer gives two choices. You do not need to decide yet; first practice asking and understanding the yes answer.
Asking about time and style
After you know breakfast is included, ask about the time. The line «朝食は何時からですか。» means "What time does breakfast start?" A shorter way to ask in the conversation is «何時からですか。», which means "What time does it start?" The word for "it" refers to breakfast, so this line works after breakfast is already the topic. The staff answer «朝食は6時半から10時までです。» means "Breakfast is from 6:30 to 10:00." Listen for the two times. If you want to ask about the kind of food, use «朝食は和食ですか、洋食ですか。», which means "Is breakfast Japanese-style or Western-style?" This question offers two choices, so the answer will usually be one of them. Finally, «朝食をお願いします。» means "I would like breakfast, please." Use it when you want to say that you will eat breakfast.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Excuse me, is breakfast included?はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。
Yes, it is included. We have Japanese-style and Western-style breakfast.何時からですか。
What time does it start?朝食は6時半から10時までです。
Breakfast is from 6:30 to 10:00.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided guest questions
Imagine you are a guest at a hotel. You are speaking with the staff at the front desk. You will ask three questions in order: first about whether breakfast is included, then about the starting time, then about the style.
Your task: Say the guest lines aloud in this order: «すみません、朝食はついていますか。», then «何時からですか。», then «朝食は和食ですか、洋食ですか。». After each line, pause and imagine a short answer. Then say the lines again without looking at the text.
Choose the right reply
You will hear or read a guest question and choose a suitable staff reply. The replies come from the recordings. This task checks whether you understand the meaning of each line.
Your task: For each guest line, choose the best staff reply. 1) Guest says «すみません、朝食はついていますか。». Is the best reply «はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。» or «朝食は6時半から10時までです。»? 2) Guest says «何時からですか。». Is the best reply «はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。» or «朝食は6時半から10時までです。»? 3) Guest says «朝食は和食ですか、洋食ですか。». Which part of «はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。» answers the question? Say your choices aloud, then check below.
Recall the conversation
Now practice the whole short conversation from memory. One person is the guest and one person is the staff member. If you are alone, say both roles aloud. The conversation has two turns for each person.
Your task: Guest: say «すみません、朝食はついていますか。». Staff: say «はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。». Guest: say «何時からですか。». Staff: say «朝食は6時半から10時までです。». Then switch roles and do it again. Try to keep the same order and do not skip any line.
Common questions
Do I need to understand every word in the longer staff answer?
No. Start by catching the important parts. In «はい、ついています。和食と洋食がございます。», the first part means yes, it is included. The second part names two breakfast styles. In «朝食は6時半から10時までです。», listen for the two times. You can understand the main message even if some words are still new.
Can I use these lines at any hotel?
These lines are useful for asking about breakfast in a hotel setting. The recordings show a guest asking and a staff member answering. Real hotels may differ, so listen carefully to the answer you receive. If you do not understand, you can repeat the question slowly.
