In this workshop you will practice short, natural Italian phrases for thanking a host after a meal, party, or stay. You will hear recorded lines and use them in guided speaking tasks. The focus is on two moments: thanking someone for the invitation and saying you enjoyed yourself, and answering warmly when a guest thanks you. You can play both roles with the audio. There is no automatic scoring, but the answer keys in each follow-up and the self-checks let you compare your lines with the recorded models.
Thanking a host for the invitation
A simple way to thank someone for inviting you is the recorded line «Grazie per avermi invitato.». It means 'Thanks for inviting me.' Use it when you arrive, when you leave, or in a short message. If you are female and want to agree the participle, you can say the same line with invitata at the end, but the recorded form is the standard one. After a visit or event, you can add the recorded line «Mi sono trovato benissimo.», which means 'I had a great time.' A woman would say the same line with trovata instead of trovato. Together, these two lines make a complete thank-you: first the invitation, then your enjoyment. You can also use the warmer recorded line «Grazie di tutto.», which means 'Thanks for everything.' It works well when you are leaving a host's home or ending a stay. For an evening event, the recorded line «Grazie per la bella serata.» means 'Thanks for the lovely evening.' For lunch you would say Grazie per il bel pranzo, and for a weekend Grazie per il bel fine settimana, but the recorded line is the evening version.
A short exchange between guest and host
The recordings include a short exchange. The guest says the recorded line «Grazie per avermi invitato, Marco. Mi sono trovato benissimo.», which means 'Thanks for inviting me, Marco. I had a great time.' The host answers with the recorded line «Sono contento che ti sia piaciuto. Torna quando vuoi!», which means 'I'm glad you liked it. Come back whenever you want!' Notice that the guest uses the same two ideas from the first section, and the host responds with a warm invitation to return. In a second scene, the guest says the recorded line «Grazie di tutto. Ci siamo divertiti molto.», which means 'Thanks for everything. We had a lot of fun.' The host replies with the recorded line «Grazie a voi per essere venuti. A presto!», which means 'Thanks to you for coming. See you soon!' These two scenes show different ways to close a visit. In the first, the guest is one person and the host invites that person back. In the second, the guest speaks for a group and the host thanks the group for coming. When you practice, decide which role you are playing and use the matching recorded line.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided thank-you to a host
Imagine you have just spent an evening at an Italian friend's home. You want to thank your host for the invitation and say you had a great time. Use the recorded lines to build your thank-you.
Your task: Say the recorded line «Grazie per avermi invitato.» and then the recorded line «Mi sono trovato benissimo.». Repeat them aloud twice. Then say the recorded line «Grazie di tutto.» as a warmer closing. If you are female, you may change the ending of the second line to trovata, but keep the recorded words for the first and third lines.
Choose the right reply
You will hear a guest thanking a host. Your job is to choose the host's reply that matches the scene. Read the two recorded guest lines and the two recorded host replies.
Your task: Guest line one is «Grazie per avermi invitato, Marco. Mi sono trovato benissimo.». Guest line two is «Grazie di tutto. Ci siamo divertiti molto.». Host reply A is «Sono contento che ti sia piaciuto. Torna quando vuoi!». Host reply B is «Grazie a voi per essere venuti. A presto!». Which host reply goes with guest line one, and which goes with guest line two? Say your answers aloud, then say the matching host reply.
Recall and switch roles
In this task you will recall the recorded lines without looking at them first, then switch roles. You can play both the guest and the host.
Your task: First, as the guest, say the recorded line «Grazie per avermi invitato, Marco. Mi sono trovato benissimo.» from memory. Then, as the host, say the recorded line «Sono contento che ti sia piaciuto. Torna quando vuoi!» from memory. Next, as the guest again, say the recorded line «Grazie di tutto. Ci siamo divertiti molto.» from memory. Finally, as the host, say the recorded line «Grazie a voi per essere venuti. A presto!» from memory.
Common questions
Can I use these lines if I am female?
Yes. The recorded line «Mi sono trovato benissimo.» is said by a man, but a woman can say the same line with trovata instead of trovato. The recorded line «Grazie per avermi invitato.» can also be said with invitata at the end if you want to agree the participle. The other recorded lines do not change for gender.
What if I want to thank someone for a lunch or a weekend instead of an evening?
The recorded line «Grazie per la bella serata.» is for an evening. For lunch you can say Grazie per il bel pranzo, and for a weekend Grazie per il bel fine settimana. The recorded lines «Grazie per avermi invitato.», «Mi sono trovato benissimo.», and «Grazie di tutto.» work for any of these situations.
