In this workshop you will practise a short morning-routine exchange in French. You will hear and repeat model lines about waking up, getting up, having breakfast and going to work, then use them in a guided conversation. The recordings give you the exact phrases to copy, so you can focus on clear pronunciation and on answering the right question at the right moment.

    The morning actions

These four recordings name the main morning actions. «Je me réveille à 7 heures.» means the person wakes up at seven. «Je me lève à 7 heures et quart.» means the person gets up at quarter past seven, so there is a short gap between waking and leaving the bed. «Je prends mon petit-déjeuner.» means the person has breakfast. «Ensuite, je vais au travail.» means the person then goes to work. Notice that each line is a complete, useful sentence you can say about yourself. Practise them in order first, then mix the order so you do not simply recite a list.

    Asking and answering

A conversation needs a question as well as an answer. «À quelle heure tu te réveilles ?» asks what time the other person wakes up. A natural answer is «Je me réveille à 7 heures, puis je me lève à 7 heures et quart.», which gives the waking time and then the getting-up time. To keep the conversation going, the first speaker can ask «Et après, tu fais quoi ?», which means “and after that, what do you do?”. The answer «Je prends mon petit-déjeuner, ensuite je vais au travail à 8 heures et demie.» adds breakfast and going to work at eight thirty. When you practise, keep the question before the answer: ask first, then reply.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Checking available voices…

Je me réveille à 7 heures.

    I wake up at 7 o'clock.

zhuh muh ray-vay-yuh ah set uhr

Je me lève à 7 heures et quart.

I get up at quarter past 7.

zhuh muh lev ah set uhr eh kar

    Je prends mon petit-déjeuner.

    I have breakfast.

    zhuh prahn mon puh-tee day-zhuh-nay

    Ensuite, je vais au travail.

    Then I go to work.

    ahn-sweet, zhuh vay oh trah-vye

    Try a short roleplay

Read one side aloud, then answer in your own words. The goal is to make the exchange yours.

    A

À quelle heure tu te réveilles ?

What time do you wake up?
    B

Je me réveille à 7 heures, puis je me lève à 7 heures et quart.

I wake up at 7, then I get up at quarter past 7.
    A

Et après, tu fais quoi ?

And after that, what do you do?
    B

Je prends mon petit-déjeuner, ensuite je vais au travail à 8 heures et demie.

I have breakfast, then I go to work at 8:30.
Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided morning exchange

Work with a partner or play both roles yourself using the recordings. One person asks the questions; the other gives the morning routine. Keep the order: question, answer, follow-up question, answer.

Your task: Speaker A says «À quelle heure tu te réveilles ?». Speaker B replies with «Je me réveille à 7 heures, puis je me lève à 7 heures et quart.». Speaker A then says «Et après, tu fais quoi ?». Speaker B finishes with «Je prends mon petit-déjeuner, ensuite je vais au travail à 8 heures et demie.». Say each line aloud, copying the recording as closely as you can.

    2

    Choose the right reply

Read the question and choose the reply that matches it. Use only the recorded lines you have practised.

Your task: Question: «À quelle heure tu te réveilles ?». Which reply fits: «Je me réveille à 7 heures, puis je me lève à 7 heures et quart.» or «Je prends mon petit-déjeuner.»? Then question: «Et après, tu fais quoi ?». Which reply fits: «Je prends mon petit-déjeuner, ensuite je vais au travail à 8 heures et demie.» or «Je me réveille à 7 heures.»?

    3

    Recall and rebuild the routine

Cover the recordings. With a partner, rebuild the conversation from memory, keeping the same roles and the same order.

Your task: Speaker A asks the waking-time question, then the follow-up question. Speaker B gives the waking and getting-up answer, then the breakfast and work answer. Use the recorded lines as your model.

    Common questions

Do I need to change the words when I talk about myself?

Start by copying the recorded lines exactly. The recordings give you complete model sentences for a morning routine, so repeating them builds fluency before you make any changes.

Can I practise alone without a partner?

Yes. Play each recording, pause, and repeat the line aloud. Then read both roles yourself, keeping the question before the answer. You can check your own accuracy by comparing what you said with the recording.
