Free lesson path Phrase audioNo sign-up needed

In this workshop you will practice simple Chinese questions and answers about social events. You will hear and repeat recorded lines about a wedding and a party, then use them in short guided exchanges. The focus is on asking whether someone attended an event, asking how it was, and giving a short positive reply. You can play both roles with the audio, but there is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys to check yourself.

Asking and answering about a wedding

Start with a simple statement about a wedding. The recorded line «婚礼很美。» means "The wedding was beautiful." This is a positive comment you can say after an event. To ask someone whether they attended a wedding, use the recorded question «你昨天参加婚礼了吗?», which means "Did you attend the wedding yesterday?" A natural short answer is «参加了,婚礼很美。», meaning "Yes, I did. The wedding was beautiful." Notice that the answer repeats the positive comment from «婚礼很美。». When you practice, keep the order: first ask the question, then give the answer. Do not begin with the answer before the question. You can also use «我参加过他的婚礼。», which means "I have attended his wedding," to talk about experience. These lines let you hold a short exchange about a wedding without inventing new words.

Asking and answering about a party

Now practice a similar exchange about a party. The recorded question «昨天的派对怎么样?» means "How was the party yesterday?" This asks for an evaluation, not a yes or no. A suitable positive reply is «我在派对上玩得很开心。», which means "I had fun at the party." Another question you can use is «你在派对上玩得开心吗?», meaning "Did you have fun at the party?" A longer recorded answer is «玩得很开心,我喝了很多酒。», meaning "I had a great time. I drank a lot." Keep the subject and activity the same across the question and answer: if the question is about the party, the answer should also be about the party. When you practice, say the question first, then the reply. You can swap roles with a partner or the audio, but the order of question and answer stays the same.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Say it before you study it

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

    Guided wedding exchange

You will practice a short exchange about a wedding. One person asks the question, and the other gives a positive answer. Use the recorded lines exactly as they are.

Your task: Read the question «你昨天参加婚礼了吗?» aloud. Then read the answer «参加了,婚礼很美。» aloud. After that, swap roles: your partner reads «你昨天参加婚礼了吗?» and you read «参加了,婚礼很美。». Keep the question first and the answer second.

    2

    Choose the right party reply

You will hear or read a question about a party and choose a suitable recorded reply. The question asks how the party was or whether someone had fun.

Your task: Read the question «昨天的派对怎么样?». Which recorded line is a suitable positive reply: «我在派对上玩得很开心。» or «我参加过他的婚礼。»? Say your choice aloud, then read the chosen line. Next, read the question «你在派对上玩得开心吗?». Which recorded line is a suitable reply: «玩得很开心,我喝了很多酒。» or «婚礼很美。»? Say your choice aloud, then read the chosen line.

    3

    Recall and role swap

You will recall the recorded lines from memory and use them in the correct roles. One role asks the question, and the other role gives the answer.

Your task: Without looking at the lines, say the question that means "Did you attend the wedding yesterday?" Then say the answer that means "Yes, I did. The wedding was beautiful." After that, swap roles: your partner asks the question and you give the answer. Finally, say the question that means "Did you have fun at the party?" and the answer that means "I had a great time. I drank a lot."

    Common questions

Can I practice alone if I do not have a partner?

Yes. You can play both roles with the audio. Read the question aloud, then read the answer aloud. Then swap roles and read them again. There is no automatic assessment, so use the answer keys in the exercises to check whether you used the correct recorded lines and kept the question before the answer.

What should I do if I mix up the wedding and party lines?

Go back to the recorded lines and check the meaning. «婚礼很美。», «我参加过他的婚礼。», «你昨天参加婚礼了吗?», and «参加了,婚礼很美。» are about a wedding. «我在派对上玩得很开心。», «昨天的派对怎么样?», «你在派对上玩得开心吗?», and «玩得很开心,我喝了很多酒。» are about a party. Keep the subject and activity the same across a question and its answer. For example, a question about the party should be answered with a party line, not a wedding line.
