In this workshop you will practice a short Chinese conversation about food. You will learn how to say what food you love, what food you are not a fan of, and how to make a simple plan to eat out. You will read the Chinese lines aloud, choose the right replies, and then try to remember the conversation with the roles switched. The recordings give you the exact lines to practice.
Talking About Food You Love and Food You Don't
Start by listening to the recorded phrase «我离不开意大利面。». This means that the speaker loves pasta very much and feels they cannot live without it. Now listen to «我不太喜欢辣的。». This means the speaker does not really like spicy food. These two recorded phrases show how to talk about a food you love and a food you are not a fan of. In the longer dialogue, these two ideas appear together as «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。», meaning the speaker loves pasta but is not a big fan of spicy food. When you practice, say the lines slowly and clearly. Keep the food topic clear: if you talk about pasta, keep talking about pasta; if you talk about spicy food, keep talking about spicy food.
Making a Simple Plan to Eat Out
Now listen to «我们出去吃吧。». This means the speaker suggests eating out. Then listen to «你想吃什么?». This means the speaker asks what the other person wants to eat. In the dialogue, these two lines are joined as «今天晚上我们出去吃吧。你想吃什么?», which means the speaker suggests eating out tonight and asks what the other person wants to eat. The reply is «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。», which means the other person loves pasta but is not a big fan of spicy food. Then the first speaker says «那我们找一家意大利餐厅吧。», which means they suggest finding an Italian restaurant. The other person answers «好啊,我都可以。», which means they are fine with anything. Notice the order: first a suggestion and question, then a reply, then a follow-up suggestion, and finally an agreement.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Then let's find an Italian restaurant.好啊,我都可以。
Sure, I'm fine with anything.Your turn
Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.
Guided Exchange: Suggest and Ask
You are practicing with a partner. One person makes a suggestion and asks a question. The other person replies with a food preference. Use the recordings to guide you.
Your task: Person A says «今天晚上我们出去吃吧。你想吃什么?». Person B replies with «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。». Then Person A says «那我们找一家意大利餐厅吧。». Person B answers with «好啊,我都可以。». Read each line aloud in order. Do not change the order of the lines.
Choose the Right Reply
Read the situation and choose the best reply from the recordings. This checks if you understand what each line means.
Your task: Situation 1: Someone says «你想吃什么?». Which reply fits? Choose between «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。» and «好啊,我都可以。». Situation 2: Someone says «那我们找一家意大利餐厅吧。». Which reply fits? Choose between «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。» and «好啊,我都可以。». Write your choices, then check the answer key below.
Recall the Conversation with Roles Switched
Cover the lines and try to remember the conversation. Then switch roles with your partner.
Your task: Without looking, Person A tries to say «今天晚上我们出去吃吧。你想吃什么?» and «那我们找一家意大利餐厅吧。». Person B tries to say «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。» and «好啊,我都可以。». Then switch: Person B says «今天晚上我们出去吃吧。你想吃什么?» and «那我们找一家意大利餐厅吧。», and Person A says «我离不开意大利面,但是我不太喜欢辣的。» and «好啊,我都可以。». Keep the same order: suggestion and question, reply, follow-up suggestion, agreement.
Common questions
Do I need a partner to practice this conversation?
No, you can practice alone by reading both roles aloud. You can also use the recordings to hear the lines and then repeat them. A partner can help you practice switching roles, but it is not required.
What should I do if I forget a line during the recall exercise?
Listen to the recording again and repeat the line slowly. Then try to say it without looking. It is fine to check the recording as many times as you need. The goal is to remember the order and the meaning, not to be perfect on the first try.
