Leaving a friend's home in Chinese is more than one word for goodbye. A warm departure often includes thanks, a positive comment about the visit, and a friendly wish to meet again. In this workshop you will listen to short recorded lines, learn what each one means in English, and then practice them in three steps: a guided exchange, a reply choice, and a recall task where you play both roles. You can do all of this with audio only, so speak the lines out loud as you go.

Thanking Your Host and Sharing a Good Feeling

When you are about to leave, the first job is to thank the person who hosted you. The line «谢谢你的招待。» means "Thanks for having me" or "Thanks for your hospitality." It works after a meal, an overnight stay, or a simple visit. A second useful line is «今天很开心。», which means "I had a great time today" or "Today was very enjoyable." This is a warm comment about your own feeling, not about the host's cooking or effort, so it is easy to say in many situations. In the recorded exchange, the guest puts these two ideas together in one sentence: «谢谢你的招待,今天很开心。». Notice how the thanks come first and the good feeling comes second. When you practice, say both parts clearly and slowly, then repeat them a little faster.

Keep the host’s invitation and the guest’s goodbye separate

The short phrase «下次再来。» depends on context; do not treat it as a fixed statement that only a guest says. In the complete recorded host reply «不客气,欢迎下次再来。», the host welcomes the guest to return. The guest then says «好的,改天再聚。我先走了,再见。»: Okay, let’s get together another day. I’m heading off now, goodbye. The host closes with «好,路上小心,再见。», meaning Okay, take care on the way, goodbye. Rehearse these complete turns rather than assigning an ambiguous short phrase to one speaker in every situation.

    Putting the Departure Together

Begin as the guest with «谢谢你的招待,今天很开心。», thanking the host and saying the visit was enjoyable. Switch to the host for «不客气,欢迎下次再来。», the welcome-back invitation. Return to the guest for «好的,改天再聚。我先走了,再见。», suggesting another meeting and announcing departure. Finish as the host with «好,路上小心,再见。». This sample follows A/B/A/B order. Practise one adjacent pair at a time, then repeat all four turns. No new phrase or fixed date is required.

    Hear the phrases in context

Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

    Your turn

Try each prompt out loud. Choose a guided start, the full sequence, or a challenge pass after your first attempt.

    1

Guided Exchange: Thank and Say Goodbye

Imagine you have just spent the evening at a friend's home. You are standing at the door, ready to leave. Your friend is the host. You will play the guest and speak your lines out loud.

Your task: As the guest, thank the host with «谢谢你的招待。» and add the recorded warm comment «今天很开心。». Then practise the full guest goodbye «好的,改天再聚。我先走了,再见。», which suggests meeting again and says you are leaving. The host’s welcome-back invitation belongs to the other role. Say the guest’s lines, then replay their matching recordings.

    2

Reply Choice: What Does the Host Say?

You are the guest, and you have just said «谢谢你的招待,今天很开心。» to your host. The host now replies. You will hear two possible replies and choose the one that fits the recorded conversation.

Your task: Listen to «不客气,欢迎下次再来。» and «好,路上小心,再见。». One of these is the host's first reply after the guest's thanks. Which one comes first in the recorded exchange? Say your answer out loud, then say the correct line yourself as the host.

    3

Recall and Role Swap: Guest Then Host

Now you will recall the whole short exchange from memory. First you are the guest, then you are the host. Use only the lines you have practiced.

Your task: As the guest, say your thank-you and warm comment together, using the recorded line «谢谢你的招待,今天很开心。» as your model. Then, as the host, say your welcome-back line using «不客气,欢迎下次再来。». Next, as the guest again, say your plan to meet again and your goodbye using «好的,改天再聚。我先走了,再见。». Finally, as the host, say your closing line using «好,路上小心,再见。». Try to do this without reading.

    Common questions

How can I practise the guest’s goodbye?

Begin with the guest’s thanks and warm comment: «谢谢你的招待,今天很开心。». After the host’s invitation, continue with «好的,改天再聚。我先走了,再见。». That complete line suggests getting together another day and says you are leaving. Rehearse the full sample before trying a different departure.

Who invites the guest to return in this recording?

The host says «不客气,欢迎下次再来。», meaning You’re welcome, and welcoming the guest to return. The guest then says «好的,改天再聚。我先走了,再见。». The short phrase «下次再来。» alone depends on context; this workshop uses the complete recorded turns to keep the host and guest roles clear.
