In this workshop, you will practice introducing a friend in Chinese and responding when someone greets your friend. You will use short recorded lines to hear natural pronunciation, then take turns speaking both roles. The goal is to help you feel comfortable with a simple introduction exchange, not to memorize grammar rules. Listen, repeat, and check your understanding with the tasks below.
Introducing Your Friend
When you introduce someone, you can say a simple line like «这是我的朋友 Sam。», which means 'This is my friend Sam.' To add where he is from and your relationship to him, you can say «他是美国人,是我的同学。», which means 'He is American, and he is my classmate.' These lines are short and useful for a first introduction. Practice saying each one slowly, then at a natural speed. Pay attention to the tone of each syllable, but do not worry about perfection. The goal is to be understood.
A Short Greeting Exchange
Here is a short exchange between two speakers. Speaker A says «你好,这是我的朋友 Sam。», which means 'Hello, this is my friend Sam.' Speaker B replies with «你好,Sam。很高兴认识你。», meaning 'Hello, Sam. Nice to meet you.' Then Speaker A adds more information with «他是美国人,是我的同学。», which means 'He is American, and he is my classmate.' Speaker B responds with «太好了,我们一起来吧。», meaning 'Great, let's come together.' Notice how the conversation flows: A introduces, B greets, A adds detail, B responds positively. You can practice both roles. When you swap roles, the order of the lines stays the same: first the introduction, then the greeting, then the extra detail, then the positive reply.
Listen once, then say the phrase yourself. Slow playback keeps the original pitch.

Recall and Swap Roles
Now you will recall the lines from memory and practice swapping roles. This helps you get ready for real conversations.
Your task: Without looking at the text, say the four lines in order: first the introduction, then the greeting, then the extra detail, then the positive reply. Then swap roles: say the greeting and positive reply as Speaker B, and the introduction and extra detail as Speaker A. Keep the same order.
Common questions
Do I need to memorize all the lines perfectly?
No, you do not need perfect memorization. The goal is to practice saying the lines clearly and to understand the exchange. You can always listen to the recordings again if you forget a line.
Can I practice with a partner?
Yes, you can practice with a partner. One person can be Speaker A and the other Speaker B. If you do not have a partner, you can play both roles yourself by saying the lines in order.
